There are dozens of jobs he can choose from. He doesn't have to be infantry unless his line scores are so low that it is the only MOS he will qualify for. He can be a pilot, computer scientist, mechanic, construction engineer, etc. All he has to do is pass with a good score on his asvab test.

would like to clarify few points from u...

Chief, you better remain in Naija. Don't go and be a second class citizen in another man's land. If people outside will tell you what they really go through, nobody will agree to live naija. So, tell your brother to remain here with us bro. If we all run away for these politicians, who will push them to do the right thing. As for me, I was born here, and I am going to die here. Am not going anywhere. By the time you spend a year or two there, you will understand. Good luck .

Let me share a little experience.

I believe traveling to US is not just to visit but to emigrate. it's a nice plan.

I'm less than 26 years of age and before coming to the US, I made sure I learnt how to barb because here in LA, it costs about 20-30 dollar but you'll have to attend barbing school before you can be able to proceed.
If you want it in your home, No problem.

Secondly, tailoring is another business that yields more money. more especially, men's wears(like senators), then for the women too.
If you know how to sow cloth, people will find you from different states.

Thirdly, Bead making is another business. The least I sold then was 85 dollar for a round neck bead.
and lastly, learn how to plait hair. it's a wonderful business. you can do that in your home too.

But right now, I have my papers( a GC holder and I work in one of the supermarkets as a secretary). It all depends on how smart and strong you are. if you can be able to do something, you'll become a better person in less than 2 years but you must work hard.

I bought my first car within my first 7 months in the US because I worked so hard for it.

Seconded, true talk.

Depending on his interest he can go into so many things but no matter what he chose, he must be very hard working, that's the number one skill.
If he's the type that have interest in looking good, he should acquire skills in barbing, hair plaiting and fashion designing.
If he's the type that can work in construction, bricklaying, plumbing and carpentry will make him live comfortably within two years.
If he's the industrial type, he should go and learn how to drive fork lift.
If he's computer savvy, some updated IT skills will help.
Above all, all these skills will just help to navigate your way there's nothing like being an entrepreneur. Look closely into e-commerce and thank me later.

You nailed it.

First, NCE is only recognized in Nigeria and there is no equivalent of NCE in America. Second, teaching in America as a Nigerian with heavy accent like ours is very difficult but possible. If your dream is to be a teacher in America, I will advise you to apply for BSc in Education in America and you will be good to go. I'm advising you as a graduate of Educational management in Unilag and als living in Virginia presently and ain't teaching.

Once you land, just go to any nursing school and do LPN or LVN. It is one year programm. Once you have the licence you will be gainfully employed.

They make up to $30 per hour in some states. If you work two jobs, that is more than $2000 a week.

Then you can figure out exactly what you have passion for and pursue that.

Please forget all these menial jobs if you are not licensed. Side jobs and under the table will never cut it.
America is set up differently to work by rewarding hard work and those paying their taxes

The NCE certificate could be evaluated and the equivalent credit awared. Then, those credits would be use as transfer credit to knock off some greater percentage of undergrad credits.

Depending on the school, she/he might not need up to 45 300 and 400 level credit to get a bachelor's

Once you do the board exam and pass, you are all set. However it might require some mandatory internship period
Because of the accent, special ed might work as she assimilate and becomes more janded.

To begin with, what is he relocating there for? Education or what? Does he have permanent residency or work authorization that would allow him to work legally? If answer is yes to the work authorization question, then the advise below would suffice.

Tell him to learn some Automation Software Testing Tools like Selenium WebDriver or HP UFT. He can also learn some Test Manangement tools like HP ALM or JIRA. I know about all these tools because I work with them and I know how much experts in those tools are being sought on a daily basis.

If he doesn't have the time to learn all the listed tools, he should try and learn Selenium WebDriver and maybe HP ALM.
He can get the Selenium Training video course on www.udemy.com for $10.
.
He will thank me later.

Teaching is also good, but I bet you the certificate you obtained in Nigeria for that will not be valid when you get to the US.

Also your ability to get a job here is based on your visa status. If you don't have a permanent resident visa you could hardly get a job.

Yes it is a full time program with mandatory clinical hours . Almost everyone works while also doing the program, even if it is part time.

Some schools, especially the community colleges are almost free. But private schools are very expensive. The truth is that you do not need the private schools for LPN

There's nothing wrong with debt, as long as you manage it properly.
You have to borrow to convert your "Human Capital" to "Financial Capital". In Nigeria, the near dearth of access to credit is one of the major reasons for poor human capital development and the poverty that comes with it.
It makes sense to get a loan of $200,000 for a good MBA that can get you to C-suite jobs of up to a $300,000 a year.

You're right man. I've always believed in the naija people even if it meant going seperate ways for the better of all. As much as Buhari is largely incompetent and reactionary, if one wishes to leave Naija's dreadful leadership and lack of opportunity for a better life I'd love it, and I wish more Nigerians and Kenyans would come to America (but no more Somalis please).

As much as I am pro-Biafra until I die, for the sake of Naija people theres a part of me that wishes Nigeria leadership would get it together so the populace can thrive. I doubt Nigeria's leadership ever will so until then I wish I had more resources to help Naijans if they ever come to America. But I hope all remains well while you hold down Naija.
Thank you very much for your kind contribution. While I agree with most of what you've said, I beg to disagree on the part that says,"lack of opportunity for a better life.....". History has shown that the most successful Nigerians are the ones that were born, educated and raised in Nigeria. I am yet to see a Nigerian-American who dares come close to the big names we have here in Nigeria. These guys are not demons. They are human. Just like you and I. Nigeria has one of the largest population of youths in the world which no doubt, is good. But the bad side is that these youths believe in becoming a millionaire overnight which is not possible anywhere in the world. There are so many ways one can make it in Nigeria. We the youth cannot continue to blame the government. The government does not create job anywhere in the world. Rather, they can only create enabling environments, thus, enabling investors to come in and create jobs. In this case, the government has failed to create the environment. But that does not mean that we should all run away. We have to become our own governments and stop making excuses. Statistics shows that Nigerians are one of the most successful black race on earth. These guys can go anywhere and make it. Correct me if am wrong. Therefore, this country has a very great future. Let nobody deceive anybody by telling them that once they go to America or Europe, they become rich. That is a blatant lie my friend. For me, I would rather die on my feet than live on my knees. We know what happens to immigrants in America or Europe. Especially Europe. Gracias!.

While I agree that many Nigerian are naturally gifted, I beg to differ with your conclusion that Nigerian traveling abroad for better opportunities simply want to be rich. That is not the case, Nigerians are simply disenchanted and do not see things improving anytime soon, and time is running out.
It's not just that there are few jobs, the Nigerian ambience is extremely tough for many.
I also don't buy the "second class citizen" thing, because when you look at substance, the vast majority of Nigerians are less than "second class" citizens even in here in Nigeria.

If people believe they have a better shot abroad, then by all means! I know lots of people that have gone, done MBAs, worked in the US for 3 years, and are back in Nigeria; they got really big roles with huge pay that they would not have gotten if they simply sat on their oars hoping for national development. In their cases, id say the American dream is alive in Nigeria.

Firstly, you will hardly get that kind of job as an immigrant with an accent. America's student loan debt is over 1.3 trillion dollars. Do you know how many people default each year? Millions!. Even the so called doctors over there are just getting by because of debt. Did you not hear about the doctor and his wife that committed suicide in ny which was also posted here sometime ago? Hehe...first, you can get great jobs as long as you know what you're doing.
When I got to UNILAG in 2012, the graduating class then had some really ambitious students that went on to complete MBAs in the US. One went to the Wharton MBA and had 3 job offers from Mckinsey, Bain and Goldman Sachs (these are jobs with basic pay of $190k exclusive of bonuses), he went with Goldman. Another, went to Darthmouth's Tuck Business schools (borrowed about $100k) and now works with BCG in Chicago.
I know another that went to NYU's Stern and is now at Vice President at American Airlines.
If you're really good and know what you're doing, student debt can really help you achieve your dreams.
Of course, when you borrow, don't go and study drama or liberal arts. You'd only be getting yourself in trouble.
And if you've suffered in Nigeria, trust me, you will use your sense very well.

Sure, there are few people who managed to monetize a legitimate hustle, but you're only as strong as your weakest links. 'Giant of Africa', 'Lion of Africa', thats a tall order in which I'd argue Nigeria has regrettably failed to exhibit. Nigeria's leadership cant live up to the potential of its people. There are only a few African giants while the rest of Nigeria starves. Babies being flushed in gutters, young people go to college just to become jobless, starving, or victims or witnesses of jungle justice or another man's selfish ritual, poorly sustained public services and infrastructure, no more exploited oil; many people are now conditioned to live like animals just to survive. The government created this mess and those giants and those enabled by them continue looking out for themselves, now behind the guise of restructuring. When you're facing challenges of Nigeria's magnitude you can do anything anywhere, but is it worth it?

Just about every black race has a chapter were they've shown exceptional abilities. First Black doctor here, Fine Black NASA scientist there, Black reincarnate of white everywhere... We're all living by standards we never created, but this is an area I'd love to see Nigeria shine either in the UK, America, or NAIJA grin . But history has proven that once the black race competes to live up to white standards that this is also where most blacks fail or tend to look out for themselves rather than the betterment of the group/country/tribes/race. Once Nigeria's greed discovered oil, the giants always looked out for themselves. Once Nigeria's fearless greed found Jesus, the pastoral giants never stood up to the government on behalf of the people and have only looked out for themselves for the most part. I could go on, but admittedly Nigeria isnt alone here, but then again the title of "Giant/Lion of Africa" is a tall order in which I believe Nigeria or Biafrans can do it, but until that time, come over to America, lets talk about it. cool

190k-100k =90k. Let's say your mortgage + student loan is 5k a month out of the yearly 90k. Your student loan might take 10years or more to pay off. You have roughly 2500 left per month. Out of that, you will have to feed. Pay your bills(phone, insurance, light and water e.tc). In addition to that, you also have to help those at home every month. Or should I also add that your people will expect you to build a mansion at home. Then, after all these expenses, what's in your pocket? Look, if loan was that good, Steve jobs would have finished school. But he dropped out. He once spoke out against that outrageous cost of higher education. Don't let the suite and tie of those guys deceive you. Most of them have almost nothing in their bank accounts.. get closer to them, you will find out.
