Exactly. It is not useless. Because according the equation a loss will incur 0. Zero when inputed makes P = 0 So it counts. Even 0.85 which is the coefficient for CAF still adds up.
You get it.

This article clears things up a bit. It is complicated. Infact, playing and winning friendlies (or CHAN) with teams that are below you on the FIFA ranking could hurt your ranking! The best thing, as someone else advised, is to withdraw.

Yes nice build up.
And the first goal was a well taken freekick by Okoro.

Osas okoro is a very good freekick taker, won't be surprised if he gets a call up to the main team. he's got CHAN to make a case for himself, i hope he uses it well.

many of these home guys are good just lacking the chance to show themselves since we don't get to watch all the league games on tv.

if ebuehi can get an invite why not osas that is a wonder crosser of the ball and a dead ball speacialist?

No sir. use the ranking tool prognosis

http://www.fifa.com/fifa-world-ranking/ranking-tools/prognosis.html

since we lost to Benin, our possible points will be 696
if we had won, it would have been possibly 731.
Chances are we may drop in the next FIFA ranking.
I'm not sure if today's match will be considered for the next ranking release or the subsequent.

I am sure you know you can test the algorithm by changing the scores?

Go back and change that score of Benin 1-0 Nigeria to Benin 0-1 Nigeria and click calculate. And see the difference in the 'ranking points' it will give you.

This article I posted gives a nice overview of its method http://www.weglobalfootball.com/2013/06/01/so-you-want-to-schedule-an-international-friendly/

When I wrote "useless", I mean its net effect on the overall standing is negligible.

They both look like SE materials.
they should at least be called to train with the team like Alhassan and Ifeanyi were.

Perfect!!!!!

You sure know how the calculations are done. That singular lose to Benin made us lose 35 ranking points. Our ranking points will drop from 716 in August to 696 in September just because of that Benin lose. Our position in the ranking may likely drop or not change. Although Cameroon will drop below us so we are sure of at least over taking Cameroon.

This home based boys should not be screwing up our rankings o.

To show 4 matches in a week might be difficult since all match days are played at the same time. except there is a change in time. lets say 1pm for some games and 4 pm for another. you know NTA don't joke with their 6 pm news.

For now, most matches are played 4pm and some are shifted to 7pm

Yes so it's not as negligible as boostdom thinks.
It can make quite a difference assuming we had beaten say Egypt at CHAN.
But I also learned something from that article he posted.
FIFA does not take into consideration the margin of win as well as whether the match was played at home, at a neutral ground or away.

I understand the prognosis but I'm looking at how losing friendlies to lower ranked teams hurt us more than necessary, since it's weighted. This article talks about it too.

Exactly. A win is a win irrespective of goals margin or match venue.

I will need to confirm if this WAFU tournament will be recorded on the ranking table. But I sincerely hope not.

My brother just like how beating a team ranked far above you earns you massive points even in friendlies, losing to a team ranked far below you has a devastating effect on your ranking points.

That is why most European countries don't often play friendlies with teams ranked below 50. Make that lowly rated team now come create upset make the big team's ranking points plunge.

Oh well, now we are going into the realm of semantics. "hurt more than necessary" is a matter of perspective. Not willing to concede further possible deductions. The first articke I posted explains it.

I'll let it rest though.

You are right bro. The home bases players need to play together a lot.. But the best results can be achieved if we improve our league.
Imagine Odey and Alhassan who were one of the best performers this season have secured moves abroad..

My brother, dis one dey different tho. P= M*I*T*C. At CHAN or WAFU, we are literally playing teams that are tens of places lower or digits higher. So "I" (importance of match), won't look much. Since "T" (strength of opponent) and "C" (strength of confederation) are lower. So, gain in P is small or negative sef.

Against top teams which are usually stronger opponents, "T" is higher and since they are in stronger confederations, "C" is also higher. Thus gain in "P" is higher.

That's just the mechanics.

No be lie, some stadiums have flood light and 6:45 pm for the second game makes sense, they finish on time for the 9pm news and they get to play under flood light and less heat with people chilling in their houses, especially sunday evenings should be for star games.

how u see am?

That factor 'T' is very powerful. If you record a win over a very strong opposition you get for eg +10. If you lose to a very weak opponent you get for eg -10. 2 X 4X1X10 = 80
2X4X1X (-10) = -80

So the weaker the strength of the opposition you lose to the more your ranking points would be negated.
