Am not sure how high up on Nifor you are but the official processs for obtaining seedlings from nifor is cumbersome and counterproductive.

On the nifor website there are contact details there, infact I have been I talks with one of the deputy directors in charge of supplying the seedlings by the name of Dr Solomon. I was promised heaven and earth and told to write numerous letters applying for seedling to the director who most times is away in Abuja and after visiting the nifor office, I was still constantly promised and reassured that there is enough seedling to go round.

I was getting really worried by early April since there was no official confirmation that I ll get the 1200+ seedling am after and after putting pressure I was eventually told to explore other options like nifor partners selling nifor sourced seedlings at 3 times the nifor price but no surprises because these partners are nifor employees with their own side business.

Nigeria is such a scam! Nifor knows for a fact they are unable to meet the demands but still strings you along until very close to planting season when you have little options left but to patronise "their" so called partners.

And its just plain ridiculous that every application to buy seedling has to be approved by the director of nifor! Does the guy not have anything better to spend his time on rather than hold people hostage by insisting on vetting all seedling applications?

Typical Nigeria government employee, he wants in on all the action.

That's my personal experience with nifor.

Typical Nigerian style. But some of us have refused to gv up.

Meanwhile, u can contact me for your tenera hybrid oil-palm seedling

Also wanting to cheap in some ideas that just stumbled into mine head. One of the main reason most farmers dont make enough profit is because they spend more money hiring labour. Mine Plantation has not started yet, but due to what i have read and mine experence in mine present business, i know that the higher your hired Laboured, the lower your profit.

As for me, if i want to Harvest mine Palms, it would be mine staffs that would be harvesting, i would not hire Labour. Also to make your Harvest Fast and for your Staff not to get tired easily while harvesting, i would use a mechcalnized Harvesting tool. I dont know if you have seen this tool before... The tool is about 6inch long, it as a kind of generator at the base which you would start like a generator, then the otherside of the tool as an opening mouth. The tool has different harvesting technique, it is a sickle, cutlass, shovel mouth etc So when you want to harvest you just insert any the kind of technique you want to use and off you go. In two seconds you are through with a particular tree. So while waste your time paying villagers or a labourer 100 Naira to help you harvest just one tree? Also there is also another Machine you can use to weed your plantation? Just like those machines you see, those farmers use in triming grasses along Ikorodu road. Instead of hairing Labours to weed your plantation, just buy like 3pc of the machines and when your staffs are free in the factory, drive them down to the plantation for them to weed.

But in all, Management is still the key.... If you can manage your plantation well..... You would always be smiling to the bank.

Any farmer in the house should please shed some light on mine thread....................

Hey boss, saw this thread today when I was browsing; how has the palm plantation farming been since 2013? Has it been successful?

Somewhere in Ogun state will be good as the inhabitants seem to be more welcoming. Not too sure about Ogbomosho. It doesnt look like where foreigners especially from the other side of the Niger will be very welcomed.
Ogbomoso is not even good land for oil palm cultivation because of the topography

Good morning everyone. I started harvesting and processing my palm fruits in May. I have 658 trees but haven't harvested more than 315 trees at any given time, I'll be applying fertilizer when the time is right and have been marking the trees that bear fruit in order to identify those that don't bear. I've also been buying palm fruits from a nearby market to maintain production levels. One thing I knew before going into this business is that it's hard work. If you're not ready for the work please don't waste your time and money. I'm still working to streamline my processing for maximum gain. Thanks a lot, this thread gave me the motivation to start and I haven't regretted it so far

Want to know about the possibilities of harvesting its fruits in 2years after planting. What's the lifespan and possible oil per tree for the first harvest and maybe the current price of its nursery plant.
Re: Starting An Oil Palm Plantation by pryncipal: 7:11pm On Dec 31, 2017
Super Gene starts fruiting from 2/3 years old with proper management , As for oil production per tree, it depends, but for example 155 trees = 1 hectare =26/28 tones of FFB(fresh fruit bunch) per year =4/5 tones of oil palm, The price per Seedling =#180. I hope I have been able to answer your question. Contact me for details explanation.
