Hello folks, As a fellow farmer, I have shared a lot of valuable information on this site based on my personal experience.

The truth about Pig Farming is you can’t wish away adequate training especially if you treasure your investment.
Over the years many people believed they could learn along the way but alas after exhausting their war-chest they quit.

The reality is Pig Farming is a profitable business venture and yet like every form of agriculture it is very technical and requires constant research and development.

In order to address some of the challenges encountered by farmers and with a strong desire to sustain the industry I will be commencing a first of it's kind, twin tracked production methodologies (Intensive Pig Farming and Pasture Pig Farming) practical training to solve the recurrent and emerging challenges in the pig industry in Nigeria.

Below is a brief overview of both programs

INTENSIVE PRODUCTION SYSTEM
The typical way of rearing pigs which involves raising pigs in concrete pens and providing all their feed and labour needs.

Course Outline for Intensive Production System

Pig Housing, Facilities and Equipment

Feed and Nutrition

Feed Formulation

Reproduction

Breeding Challenges(Sow Mortality, Weaner Mortailty, Diarrhoea)

Health and Diseases

Castration

Financial Analysis

Marketing/Sales

PASTURE PIG FARMING
An approach to raising pigs by allowing them graze on plants and other natural resources with or without supplemental feeding within a confined environment.
The Pasture program helps you unlock the potentials of our natural environment for raising pigs in a low cost, safe, profitable and sustainable approach.

Course Outline for Pasture Pig Farming

Establishing the Pasture

Pasture Feed and Nutrition

Pasture Housing, Facilities and Equipment

Breeding

Castration

Health and Diseases on the Pasture

Financial Analysis

Marketing

Expected Benefits from Pasture System

Zero/reduced feed costs

Zero Housing Costs

Zero Labour Costs

Taint free meat

Leaner carcass

Bonus Training
Processing Primer..... an introductory course about converting pigs into valuable Pork Products

Classic ebooks on Pig Farming

Some of the practices to be learnt are also beneficial in other areas of animal husbandry(cattle, goat, sheep), poultry and aquaculture.

Its my intention to transfer a generation of knowledge and resources to participants at the training, at the end of the program the farmer is well informed and adopts the track that guarantees sustainable profits and management.

YOU CAN SAVE UP TO 50 PERCENT ON ANIMAL FEEDS, WHILE INCREASING YIELD BY 50 PERCENT AND USE 70 PERCENT LESS WATER

ARE YOU FINDING IT DIFFICULT TO FEED YOUR LIVESTOCK?

IF YES, CHECK THIS

Hydroponic systems, our focus is on sensitization of livestock farmers on how to increase farm yields and help even smallholder farmers to maximize on returns. Our aim is specially putting a focus on the Sorghum and wheat seed to produce fodder.

Hydroponic farming is the art of growing plants without the use of soil .This technology is as old as history and was used in the famous hanging gardens of Babylon for commercial purposes to feed livestock. It started in 1960s in Australia and has spread to the rest of the world ever since.

Hydroponics technology can be adopted using locally available materials to control temperature thereby making hydroponic farming a reality. A farmer can construct a 3m by 4m house unit which can support to feed two dairy cows, 10 (pigs, goats, sheep) and over 400 birds. The amount of fodder from this unit is equivalent to two acres of Napier grass.

Hydroponic fodder for livestock is the main meal, but not supplement. Actually it completely eliminates dairy meal, maize germ, pollard, poultry fed and even in sow and weaner.

Fodder Benefits

Poultry thrive on fresh vegetation. Feeding fodder will result in higher profitability across the farm, from reduced out-of-pocket feed costs to increased cash flow from products sold as grass fed or organic. The nutritional composition of fodder makes it a full feed option for poultry and will improve their overall health and performance.

Incorporating fodder into poultry diets will result in these benefits:

Better quality eggs with deeper yolk color
Enhanced egg taste
Reduced sticky droppings
Higher quality meat with better texture
Improved health and energy levels

POULTRY

LOCAL BREED

Aim to give 150g of fodder to any mature hen, Ducks, goose, pigeon, and quail. They eat according to their body weight.

EXOTIC

They take fodder 50 percent and 50 percent convectional feed.
Or 30%/70% depends on needs, availability and affordability.

ADVANTAGES

i) Early maturity; broilers are ready by 42nd day and layers start laying at 16th week.

ii) The egg yolk is bright yellow in color,

iii) Cannibalism is eliminated.

iv) Save between 40 to 60 percent on feed.

PIGS

Pigs can feed entirely on barley, wheat and or white sorghum( Guinea Corn) sprouts.

ADVANTAGES

i. Fat coat is reduced by 50 percent (FROM 14MM TO 7 MM.)

ii. They mature earlier by 2 weeks.

iii. Offensive smell associated with pigs is almost eliminated.

iv. General immunity is improved.

FATTENING OF BULL AND DROUGHT STRICKEN COWS

15KG fodder +1.5kg maize meal +dry pasture

Young bulls (6 MONTHS OLD) are known to increase the weight by 108kg for three months under this feeding programme. This is because between six and nine months is bone spat period in cows. Emaciated cows recover in just one month.
