If they have their genuine papers, why won't they be compensated...? Their compensation would have been factored into project cost during feasibility study and planning.

All they can do now is to form a formidable association and engag government corporately since individual approach to seeking consolatory redress would yield less positive result.

The issue is they won't have required documents since the land they built on was set aside for a road by government a long time ago

It's a pity what the occupants and owners of the properties would go through this year end.

On the other end, encroaching on government reserved land is not compensable. The baales and land-racketeers in that area should be held accountable.

I disagree totally. The duty of care is solely placed on the buyer's shoulder.

Remember the rule of Caveat emptor!

This so sad but the government has got to do the needful for those affected no one should please commit suicide their is hope angry
what needful? as much has I feel pity for those involved they are the cause of their own problems. a road as been designated as an expressway since 1973 yet they built houses on it. I'm sure 80% of those houses were not there in 1973(44yrs ago!!!)

am expressway has been designated to pass through that area since 1973 (44yrs ago) yet people built houses on it without C of O and approved plan. so the government should stop development of the others because a few people decided to build on government land. sure 90% of the houses affected were not there in 1973.

next time think before making foolish comments. I'm sure APC stole your brain too

I don't think it's the government at fault. That road has been commissioned before most people even got thr land there. I think the residents are to be blamed for not taking proper survey

I understand wot u mean bro but I wan ask a question as u made reference to survey, you know buying a land u need to do a survey plan done by a registered surveyor after which he will which he will document such survey plan at d end d owner of d property will still register d document either C of O, power of attorney or deed of assignments, which ever one it is.. Now my question why not notify d buyer that such a land has bin map out as a pathway during documentation /registration?

So, even if it was marked a hundred years before, you think it will still be easy?

May God bless you for that wonderful question. Also note that Building control agency must have collected some money from these people during the process of building, yet they refuse to inform them that the land is meant for road and stop the work immediately without bribe.
Our government are just taking advantage of the citizens.

You and I generated the filth, you and I have the primary duty to clean it up.... He (Ambode) only has a secondary role to play.

What have you done?

Don't play that one, the Lagos state government is in charge of refuse disposal and both citizens and government were cooperating fine to keep the state clean under Fashola. Nobody forced Governor Ambode to tinker with the system as it was under Fashola. It was his decision and that is the cause of the filth we now see.

Even the governor that I have complained to via Twitter more than once is not giving this your lame excuse. So, know what to defend and why.

All these problems of mega slums and lack of proper master planning and approval process we have in Nigeria are caused by weak ""Urban and town planning commision".
The town planning commission should be the go to for proper environmental analysis and approval for any development, even if such development is to be carried out by politicians (FG, State govt, local govt, etc).
It is sad that reverse is the case as the body that has this responsibility and are supposed to be consulted are reduced to civil servants paid by those that are supposed to consult them.

A lot of landlords are now back to being tenants. Some are even on their way back to the village.

Sadly some are going down to graves. There are some who will not be able to deal with depression that follows such incidence. It takes the grace of God to survive ordeals like this.

When people will not make research before buying land . At least these land lords are not useless, they can still be used as bad example
Has nothing to do with research, Lagos state government has gone against the master plan of that area, so it's not the fault of the landlords. I pray government compensate them.

Nigerians.
They know how to be very brutal when administering their own version of the law because they want to be seen as progressive . Especially Okorocha , El-rufai, and this Ambode clown.
Implement the social justices and palliatives in those civilized countries they are trying to copy is now a big problem.
I hope he is not expecting me to greet him well done.

I am not impressed, sorry. Development goes beyond sending people out of Lands.

APC and demolition are like 5 and 6, here in Owerri thousands of people are already frantically moving out their goods and properties out of New Market, the second biggest market in Owerri as count down to friday gets close. This is coming on the heels of the demolition of eke ukwu Owerri few months ago. Rochas may have good intentions but there is widespread dispair and frustration thick in the air as many are yet to get alternative shops and are now moving their goods to their homes in the meantime!

We are all technically tenants on the land we occupy. After 100years government can revoke your papers but in some cases they don't wait that long. In saner clients, you don't have to kill or worry yourself building a house by fire by force

When I hear some idiots calling a people ancestral land no man's land, I laugh. God owns the land followed by the constituted authority be it government or the monarchy system. Government are like demons they do not forget though it may tarry

Don't build on government land. You may weep later if nothing to fall back on
That's why we need to think of were we come from(village), don't allow any spiritual head deceive u by staying away from ur roots
