it uses infrared camouflage called Adaptiv consisting of thermoelectric plates, capable of posing as many different objects, such as ordinary cars, stones, trees etc. to an enemy IR-viewfinder. It takes 1,500 plates to cover a CV90.

The panels forming Adaptiv's pixels are hexagons approximately 5.5 inches (14 cm) wide. The system allows its operator to "grab" a thermal image from a vehicle or other object for display.

Infrared cameras continuously gather thermal images of the vehicle's surroundings. The Peltier plate panels are rapidly heated and cooled to match either the temperature of the background, such as a forest, or one of the objects in the thermal cloaking system's "library" such as a truck, car or large rock. The system is able to gather and display thermal images while the vehicle is moving. The result is to "cloak" the vehicle from detection by heat-detecting night vision devices .

The vehicle essentially works like a chameleon, able to mimic its surroundings, or copy other objects such as trucks and cars that can be projected onto the panels from a detailed image bank. The vehicle is also able to signal peaceful intend through flashing text messages across its flank or by creating patterns that can easily be recognized by friendly forces.

Someone here, I think it was Dayo, posted images of a UAV suspiciously resembling the Denel Bateleur, offered by your real not pretend rivals. You'd be amazed how much chutzpah they have, for example unsuccessfully ordering 1 each of every SA system in which they're interested, year after year tongue tongue tongue.

The CV serries is a IFV but they pretty beffy. They can take a RPG7 hit.

But you have to Remember where this is being used. Heavily forested area where these are able to hide in the woods. With out thermals they would be hard to find more so from the air. It gives a big edge in long-range fighting where thermals are used a lot by other vehicles.

Thing is if you see this thing with your eyes they either messed up or they shooting at you and you are dead.

Finland all so uses thermal camouflage for there vehicles. Same terrain lots of Forrest to hide in.

Maybe they "liberated" the old chap responsible for the Bateleur from the banking world. grin grin grin

Or maybe they bought the plans as part of kickbacks for Denel masking their dealings with people they aren't supposed to.
