But how come the imported cars with thermostat now develope issues here in Nigeria?...

I still wonder why cars driven in very hot region like dubai have thermostat installed.i think op gat a point here .instead of removing ur thermostat,I guess u go for a bigger radiator .oyibo wen make motor know sey every part dey important .I have been a victim of mechanics removing my thermostat 2 times .

Those cars were developed for that region, when you buy a car from america and canada always remove the thermostat. My car started over heating recently, i was advised to buy a double cell radiator which is a bigger one than the one that came with the vehicle. After buying the over heating continued, the gasket of my vehicle got burnt due to over heating. At the end i listened to the mechanic and removed the thermostat, since then over heating stopped and temperature is vry normal.

THOSE CARS ARE BUILT FOR SPECIFIC REGIONS. IF INNOSON SHOULD MAKE A CAR FOR THE EUROPEANS DO YOU THINK IT WILL BE AS SAME WITH THE OF NIGERIA? I'M NOT DISREGARDING THE THERMOSTAT OF A THING BUT I THINK THERE ARE LITTLE DIFFERENCES BASED ON REGIONS.

How, pls explain
If someone has cancer and you administer strong pain relievers, the pain may go, but the cancer is still there. When a car overheats, it means cooling system is compromised. Removing thermostat may temporarily suspend overheating, but the cause of overheating is still present. The only time a thermostat can cause overheating is when it is stuck close, in which case a replacement thermostat is needed. Effects of removing thermostat short term is increased fuel consumption, long term, engine damage. I hope you know that even cars made in Nigeria have thermostats. Don't you think they would have been removed if your mech was right. Nevada is hotter than most places in Nigeria and their cars run on thermostats.

Like other mechanical parts in a car, thermostarts also have expiry dates, if ur car is overheating cos of the thermostart, the simple answer is to change the thermostart, i have had cause to change mine because the thermostart got stuck and was not allowing water circulate in the engine.
Removing the thermostart isnt the answer to an overheated engine.

Gbam!! Best solution. I monitor my fuel consumption and notice it increases by 30% in the morning when it’s cold because my stupid Mech removed my thermostat. My last car, my good Mech advised me to change radiator not thermostat.

And how is your fuel consumption? Change radiator instead of thermostat. Radiator sizes vary per region but thermostat doesn’t. I am sure you also believe Toyota’s are fuel economical, joke of the century. Wonderful how Nigerians always seem to know more than the manufacturer.
Onyenna:

Thermostat have ruined several cars here in 9ja with constant overheating..... Once removed, the overheating stops instantly and the engine becomes sane again... I've seen first hand what that thing does to cars in this region...

If truely Innoson cars have thermostat[like someone said here], then i wonder why imported cars with thermostat develop overheating issues..... Or maybe they weren't actually "tweaked" for our environment.... I'm certain car manufacturers consider climate conditions when manufacturing cars for a particular region...

No they don't. Overheating occurs everywhere, whether Nigeria or western world. A troubleshoot is meant to be carried out, and problem fixed, not just yanking thermostats. Nigerian mechs are too lazy or lack expertise to find exactly why a car overheats, so they just remove thermostat which is really sad considering the long term effects. All my cars run on thermostats without issues.

There are many issues, some of these vehicles had been parked for a long time in Europe /America /Cotonou there by affecting cooling system which has lot of hoses/plastic/seal which degrade overtime, thermostat has rusted and needs replacement,. no coolant , continue later........ ..

I deal with diesel Generators and the Ogaden that thought me usually remove the thermostats when the engine starts having over heating issues

Bros no talk am o, the thermostat of a thing is only good in the western world o.... My car almost got ruined on the highway few months after buying it in 2014 cause of the thermostat n it happened again in 2015 with another car I bought ...it doesn't cost much to remove on both occasions I gave my mechanic 1k each.... According to him Nigeria is too hot to leave thermostat in the vehicle

Florida is equally hot, if not “hotter”.

Same thing I was told when I ask why the thermostat of a diesel gen was removed after washing the radiator and it’s still overheating, we had to remove the thermostat then the temperature was balanced, weather is a key factor

You got to remove the thermostat because our weather is not the same,we are tropical weather carrier, the engine is warm before you even start it,over there they have cold or extreme cold to deal with..

Thanks alot for this info, but since it was removed the incident has not occurred again n both cars don't consume fuel... It's a Toyota rav 4 n Nissan rogue.....buying a new car soon.... So are u saying it shouldn't be removed?!?

As a mechanical engineer I know the implications of removing thermostat from a car, but my friends who did not heed my advice faced so many challenges, when they are in traffic they experienced over heating and while they are on a free way they experienced too low temperature that tend to affect the combustion of their engine

works perfectly with AC, fan work most in city driving because of holdup and stop/go .But on highway /intestate you can drive for 700km ,fan won't spin. Engine perform at an optimum temperature .

Engine has optimum operating temperature, fuel consumption depends on engine size. observe Manufacturers MPG and your own MPG. ur car will consume more fuel

First hands experience, pls don't remove your thermostat from a new engine that when you buy a new car. Don't remove your thermostat

When your engine is bad and you bought another engine for replacement that is second engine(tukubo engine), you can remove your thermostat from the new engine you bought that is the tukubo engine.

But when you buy new engine, pls don't remove the thermostat.

Toyota experience... I don't know of other vehicles

See your life...who tell you Thermostat is not for Nigeria weather...my car Toyota Camry V6 still have the thermostat intact and I just travelled from Lagos to PH and from PH to Abuja without any issues. I have been travelling like this with the car for almost 3 years and still counting..

You are very very wrong, what you are displaying here is ignorance, those cars you are referring to are produce to adapt to any wheather condition being freezing or very hot wheather, that is why they are produced with thermostat. It is the work of the thermostat to adjust the temperature of the engine to the wheather condition the car is operating in. Is it not the same refrigerator they use in the USA and China you use here? Why don't you remove your fridge thermostat and see how far you will go with it?
