WHETHER IGBO SING YORUBA OR SPEND ONE DAY LEARNING YORUBA WILL NEVER MAKE THEM YORUBA. HOWEVER WAT IT WILL DO FOR THEM IS OPEN MORE OPPORTUNITIES IN SOUTHWEST REGION AND THEY WILL SPREAD FURTHER TO YORUBA VILLAGES. A GOOD IDEA IN THE SHORT TERM, MIGHT TURN OUT TO BE A BAD IDEA IN THE LONG RUN. IGBOS SPEAK GERMAN AND ITALIAN IN THOSE COUNTRIES, EVEN POLISH, BUT YET REMAIN IGBO. AMBODE PLAYING ETHNIC CARD AHEAD OF ELECTION IS ALLOWED. 2 Likes |

john650:Lagos multi ethnic state? How? The main ethnic group that preoccupied Lagos from d time of immemorial are the Yorubas. Igbo's doesn't belong to Lagos. Lagos is not home to any Igbo person, y'all are migrants and are completely strangers there. Yoruba accommodated you people but you have made us regret our benevolences. Igbo doesn't have any right above the Yorubas in Lagos. 12 Likes 1 Share |

naptu2: Not practical. We speak about 500 languages in Nigeria. Teaching every child in his/her mother tongue mean the following 1) You need more classrooms. Especially in cities. In some schools, you will need up to 10 classes per level 2) You need more teachers to teach the classes. You may need 10 arithmetic teachers 3) You need textbooks in each language 4) Other issues. Like, What language do you use to teach foreigners? |
Re: Sing National Anthem In Yoruba Daily, Gov. Ambode Tells Lagos Principals, Teache by naptu2: 3:45pm On Mar 08, 2018 |
mfm04622: 1-3 = More investment, jobs, opportunities, etc. 4 = The official foreign languages in Nigeria, English and French. Note that, as part of the compromise, kids are taught at least one Nigerian language and one foreign language (usually English and French) and some states have introduced additional languages, eg, Lagos State's introduction of Chinese. Every policy has its pros and cons. Research has been done by lots of international bodies, including UNESCO, which show that children learn better in their mother tongue and there are enough people in Nigeria who want to preserve their indigenous languages and who are ready to give it a go. Many state governments in Nigeria are willing to implement this policy and they will do it, especially when you consider what I wrote in 1-3 above - more textbooks, more employment, more investment and more opportunities for politicians to award contracts. Re: Sing National Anthem In Yoruba Daily, Gov. Ambode Tells Lagos Principals, Teache by mfm04622: 7:47pm On Mar 08, 2018 |
naptu2: Not workable. Imagine having 200 pupils in Primary 1 and you have 70 different mother tongues? Where will you get the lands in cities to build schools? How will the schools be managed? Is it efficient to have teachers teach 5 pupils? Or even 1? Where will you find the teachers? It is because there are not enough teachers that Youth Corpers are being used to teach. Imagine the efforts required to translate each approved textbooks into 500 different language? Also this will also limit interactions between pupils and students if different ethnic groups since time spent in class will be spent with only there fellow students from same ethnic group. It would have been different if we all speak same language like others (Russians, German, Italian, etc) who speak same language |

tobida: You are very wrong with this view. Growing up somewhere outside your native land has great impacts on you. Go and observe that Igbos who grew up in Onitsha and Igbos who grew up in Lagos or in the north do not behave the same way at all. They behave very differently. I am from the north-central and I have observed this very very well. Igbos who grew up in Jos where I am from are very different from those that came from the east. I am from Jos but I grew up in Warri and I can tell you that I am very different from most of my people in the way we act, think and almost everything else. 2 Likes |

legitnow: It is not as easy as you think bro. The non yorubas will definitely integrate into yoruba culture, this will make the yoruba nation more populous. Go to Kano and see, majority of the hausa speaking muslims you see in Kano are not from Kano state, many of them are not even Hausas by tribe! Many of them are Nupes, Kanuris, Shuwa, Baburr, Fulanis, Gwaris, Ebira, Igala, Auchi and even yoruba muslims. Yes! There are yoruba muslims who have integrated into Hausa culture and identity in Kano state! 2 Likes |
