I think you should be paying the 2k since you are using the supply. 2k is not much and i think it's moderate bcus some area are paying 8k-12k monthly on estimated bill and you are complaining of 2k.
If you don't need their supply and you think using generator is more cheaper for you pending when your meter arrives, then write and be disconnected.

Now to my story.

I moved to a new house in Ibadan in May, 2017. The building has 7 flats and I occupied one of the flats.

On moving in, the landlady told me that she already paid for 7 prepaid meters for each of the flats and they will be installing them as soon as possible.

Unfortunately, the transformer of my area was faulty from May till December 25th, 2017. It was eventually fixed by the community, not PHCN (NEPA).

Then, in February of 2018, the man who collected the money for the prepaid meter brought some Nepa bills for each of the flats saying that we need to pay #3000 each for "loss of revenue". This fee is to cover for the power we're consuming pending the time that our prepaid meter will be ready.

Also, we'll be paying #2000 monthly per flat while our prepaid meter is processing.

I said no. The others tenants also stood their ground.

This man then went to bring more officials to justify his actions. This time around, they added that they can remit the money for us.

This is a new house and it's obvious that they are not being truthful.

The receipt they gave us is not attached to any meter number. No A/C no. Nothing. Just a stamp that contains a name and phone number.

I see this as daylight robbery and corruption because it's obvious that they are deliberately delaying the prepaid meters for their selfish interest.

What steps can I take to correct this?

These guys are threatening to disconnect my power supply. I'm not bothered because I use a solar inverter to power my flat.

I just want to let these guys know that they are wrong. I want to take this up.

I've the phone numbers, email address, and address of IBEDC. What are the steps to take before I write a petition and start this long process.
Why don't you visit any of their customer care office near you or send a mail of your complaint to customercare@ibedc.com for speedy resolution of the issue.

2000 naira bill outrageous?

Wait till you start begging to pay 20k when they bring 35k bill

This post is not about the #2000 bill. I stated clearly that we didn't have light for over six months because of a faulty transformer. And the landlady paid for the prepaid meters before this.

What is delaying the prepaid meters after a year?

Why can't they install the prepaid meters when the transformer was bad?

Why did they wait until nine months before coming up with their plan to be collecting service charge?

What is the assurance that we'll get the prepaid meters soon.

Power supply in my area is poor. Very poor. What is their justification for the #2000 monthly service charge ?

These are my concerns.

What this man wrote is absolutely true because we are experiencing the same thing in my area in Ibadan, this IBEDC are just doing as they like.....They even brought 8000 naira for a small mosque where people only converge on Friday alone for prayer

What is even their functions?

They didn't fix the transformer when it was faulty for 7 months. They didn't process the prepaid meters that was paid for and now they want to collect service charge. For what exactly?

Nigeria is a funny country and Nigerians are even funnier. How do you pay N2,000 ($5.63) per month for electricity and expect a functioning electric system?? My last month’s electricity bill was $185.00, January was $176 etc. my water bill for last month was $82, in January it was $77. At this rates, I expect a fully functioning services and that’s what I get. Paying $5/month for these expensive services is not realistic, you are more or less subsidizing NEPA officials pepper soup’s payment.

Well, based on experience, You will have to be paying loss of revenue to their office while they process your prepaid meter. They will bring the meter few months after, but you won't pay any bill aside the loss of revenue.

Thank you for your response. They are unnecessarily delaying the prepaid meter just to collect loss of revenue. We had no light for 7 months. Why didn't they fix the prepaid meter during that time.

This is one of the reasons this country is crawling.

Bros you are being irrational...because your landlady applied for Prepaid meter you think that's ground for you to use energy free? Why didn't your Landlady wait till the meters arrived before connecting? They have told you it's loss of revenue with receipt and stamp.
Yes it not showing any account nos because they do not want to open a bill for you, in which case you will receive estimated bills which are normally on the high side.
Now if you go to NERC you will so loose the case and forced to make payment to the Disco and they can at the moment even arrest or take legal action against you.
You applied for a meter is different from meter has been delivered and INSTALLED, please emphasis on caps.
Nigerians we think everyone in these DISCOs don't know what they do are doing?
My friend that #3000 is the barest minimum for loss of Revenue, if you like don't pay. As long as a document carrying the DiSco name and logo plus stamp and authorized signature you are good to go. Please dont Wait till they disconnect your street because of you guys.

Now imagine getting these bills when you're providing your own electricity. That's what I am going through. And this is what most Nigerians are going through. Even as I type this, the last time we had power supply is over two days. I use solar and inverter. My neighbours run generator 247.

The system is not function for those paying the system.

You just showed you are very unintelligent and have little or no smattering of economics.

How could you compare what you pay by converting it in naira?

It's akin to saying you earn 1k dollars ie 360k in New york and therefore better than someone in VI earning 300k

Do you spend or make money in naira?

This is gross...

Did you read the part where I said that we didn't have power for 7 months because of a faulty transformer?

Why didn't they fix the prepaid meter then?

OK my bad, Im sorry for the tone of the response bros.
Now here a couple of things that can help you based on experience...
1. Did your Landlady pay for the meters through the genuine process, does she have documents (Bank teller) showing amount and nos of meters payed for? If so head to the nearest Office with copies of documents and request to see New service officer and tender your documents....8/10 chances are the meters are ready and probably phone nos supplied as at time of application is not reachable.
2. Now also confirm if it's not that she gave one "NEPAMAN" Soso and soso amount of money because he is a Nepaman! So if this is the case contact "NEPAMAN" and ask what is happening since u have not seen meter
Also as for the 7 months outage...Sorry bros e dey pain Wella!
3. But for the payment it's not extortion, it's actually the standard since the service unit stamp will be on it with the Cashier's signature. It's admissible anywhere.
So bro try and confirm situation of things first from the office, so you know what next to do. 80 if not 100% of meters payed for over a year ago have been delivered and installed. There's a NERC regulation on metering that ensures DISCOs meter within 45 days customer makes payment.
So hope I have been helpful abit.....My bad about earlier bro, hope this solves your issue
