How do we know there is a God?

The Bible describes God as eternal (Psalm 90:2; 1 Timothy 1:17), all-powerful (Jeremiah 32:17; Colossians 1:17), infinite in understanding (Psalm 147:5; Isaiah 40:28), perfectly holy like no other (Exodus 15:11; 1 Samuel 2:2), the only God (Psalm 86:8–10), incapable of lying (Titus 1:2), Creator of the whole universe (Genesis 1:1; John 1:3), and Saviour (Titus 2:13)—just to name a few attributes. How do we know such a God exists?

God can not exist because he is an ominibenevolent figure and we mortals are fallible.

Now here is the logical proof.

Say I have a pound of salt and I tell you to find sugar, where will the sugar come from?

how do we know the Bible's description of God is accurate in the first place?

God could be all evil and stuff. he could be a cruel dictator who enjoys misery and demand human sacrifice... he could be an omnipotent Hitler. an entity who does as he pleases because he is unquestionable.

what makes us think God is holy and good? the definition of God I'm familiar with is: supreme all powerful creator of the universe. nothing to say if he is good or bad. last time I checked, you don't need to be good in order to be supreme or creator.

what if the creator of the universe is actually evil?

You have a point, but when you cultivate a relationship with this God , you'd realise that he is good, if you take time to read the old testament, you would notice his relationship with the Israelites and how he even extended his mercy to the people of Assyria amongst others, can that God be evil?

in the new testament we read about he sending his son to save us, will an evil God do that?

This is where faith comes,
like the bible says faith cometh by hearing and by hearing the word of God. Romans 10:17.

And also most if not all stories in the bible have historical and archaeological backings that prove its authencity

a person can decide to have faith in Hinduism, Islam, Christianity,... a person can follow anyone with faith. how would you know the one that is having faith in a lie?

Lol, this is funny.

So what you are saying is that one should take whatever the bible says in good faith no matter how ridiculous it sounds?

And what historical and archaeological backing gives credence to the bible? Stories in the bible such as the garden of eden, the great flood and noah's has been found to be just myths and lacking any empirical evidence to prove them. The bible is a masterpiece of literature just like several other books but it also has it share of flaws and hence cannot be inspired by infallible God.

Is it not the same bible that supports slavery, racism, genocide, infanticide, rape, misogyny? undecided

How can a perfect God create a bleeped up world? Logically, it does not make sense. Hence the logic of God existing is logically impossible.

Whatever the religion/Faith God doesn't change None of these change him, and all other religions usually (most) of them point to a supreme creator but only Christianity offers a way to know him (personally)

You mean the same old testament where he killed and afflicted the Egyptians? The same old testament where in hardened the heart of Pharoah and still punished him for something he (ie Pharaoh) wasn't in control of?

You mean the old testament where God roasted babies?

Are these the relationships and good deeds of a god you speak of?

in the new testament we read about he sending his son to save us,
Ohh. You mean the new testament god where God masterminded everything by using Judas to betray jesus so as to fulfil his prophecy?

À god of the new testament that says "you either serve him or perish in hell?"

will an evil God do that?
With the above lists, im inclined to believe your god ain't evil.

God good? Old testament god or the new testament god?

Both

You mean the same old testament where he killed and afflicted the Egyptians? The same old testament where in hardened the heart of Pharoah and still punished him for something he (ie Pharaoh) wasn't in control of?

All I would say to that is is a translation issue, try reading those verses in NKJV and the Message bible.

You mean the old testament where God roasted babies?

This is poppycock, what do you read?

Are these the relationships and good deeds of a god you speak of?

I have dealt with this

Ohh. You mean the new testament god where God masterminded everything by using Judas to betray jesus so as to fulfil his prophecy?

Not quite, there is something called fate and this is how/why the old prophets knew Jesus would be betrayed, and also choice
Deuteronomy 30:11-20

À god of the new testament that says "you either serve him or perish in hell?"

This is called rebellion and as I said before choice and I advise u like moses did choose life.

With the above lists, im inclined to believe your god ain't evil.

have a rethink

"For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive" (1 Corinthians).

If you read the record of creation in the book of Genesis you will discover that it was created in perfection. There was no sin, sickness, suffering nor death in the beginning. You may ask why God gave our first parents the ability to sin since He is the all-knowing God who knows that they are going to sin and introduce sickness, suffering and death into the world. If Adam and Eve were created as robots then they were not responsible for messing up a perfect creation but they were created as free moral agents having the ability to choose. As a parent, you cannot force your children to love you, neither would you be able to force your wife to love you. They choose to love you because they have free will. How would we have perceived the depth of the love of God, that was showcased on the cross of Cavalry if Adam had not sinned? This could be one of the reasons God allowed sin to enter into this world that was created perfectly in the beginning.

Let's see how science proves there has to be a God as said in Genesis 1:1.

Scientific Evidence That Demands A Creator God.

There are only three possibilities from where the universe can come from.  By way of the elimination we will arrive at our destination.

1). The universe created itself;
2). The universe has always existed, and
3). The universe was created.

1. The universe created itself:

Can something create itself?  Can nothing create something?  The answer to these is an absolute No.  We all know that something cannot create itself and nothing can't create something.  From Latin we have the phrase "ex nihilo, nihil fit" meaning "from nothing, nothing comes."  It also violates the law of cause and effect, that says for every effect there must be a cause.  The effect can't be greater than the cause and nothing cannot be greater than something.  Therefore, based on the laws of science and logic, the universe couldn't have created itself.  That leaves us with options 2 and 3.

2. The univese has always existed:

Lets go to the 2nd law of thermodynamics that basically teaches that "the whole universe is losing usable energy for doing usable work."  This means that the usable energy in this universe is wearing down.  The universe as a whole is losing energy.  In other words, molecules as a whole are slowing down.

Therefore, if this universe was eternal we will be in what is called an "virtual heat death."  This means that there will be virtually no molecular movement.  Everything would have lost its available heat energy for doing work.  Therefore, the universe cannot be eternal, it must have had a beginning.  The theory that the universe has always existed or is eternal has to be false based on the law of science and logic, another speculation gone with the air.  This leaves us with only one possibility based on science.  Which is that:

3. The universe was created:

"In the Beginning God created the heaven and the earth." -- Genesis 1:1

Science confirms the Bible.  QED Simples. wink

His design of the world is flawed thats why sin was able to come in. If it was perfect then sin would not have entered.

So the works of Solomon, teachings of Jesus, prophecies of the prophets are just works of literature?

The following passage shows that slaves are clearly property to be bought and sold like livestock.

However, you may purchase male or female slaves from among the foreigners who live among you. You may also purchase the children of such resident foreigners, including those who have been born in your land. You may treat them as your property, passing them on to your children as a permanent inheritance. You may treat your slaves like this, but the people of Israel, your relatives, must never be treated this way. (Leviticus 25:44-46 NLT)

If you buy a Hebrew slave, he is to serve for only six years. Set him free in the seventh year, and he will owe you nothing for his freedom. If he was single when he became your slave and then married afterward, only he will go free in the seventh year. But if he was married before he became a slave, then his wife will be freed with him. If his master gave him a wife while he was a slave, and they had sons or daughters, then the man will be free in the seventh year, but his wife and children will still belong to his master. But the slave may plainly declare, ‘I love my master, my wife, and my children. I would rather not go free.’ If he does this, his master must present him before God. Then his master must take him to the door and publicly pierce his ear with an awl. After that, the slave will belong to his master forever. (Exodus 21:2-6 NLT)

Slaves, obey your earthly masters with deep respect and fear. Serve them sincerely as you would serve Christ. (Ephesians 6:5 NLT)

Christians who are slaves should give their masters full respect so that the name of God and his teaching will not be shamed. If your master is a Christian, that is no excuse for being disrespectful. You should work all the harder because you are helping another believer by your efforts. Teach these truths, Timothy, and encourage everyone to obey them. (1 Timothy 6:1-2 NLT)

This bible verses are just for slavery alone. There are more sickening verses which support other heinous crimes against humanity.
