This exact same question is what I tried to answer yesterday and the week before because I wanted to buy building materials for my house and I was thinking since I would be needing alot then maybe i should just import. I asked around and it would cost around 3m to ship and clear a 20ft container to nigeria. This is asides misc expenses though which may drag the price to 3.5

When it gets to Nigeria, if they have representatives here they can do the clearing for you else get a competent clearing agent to clear your goods for you. It is that simple I have brought in machinery and 100kg aluminium foils into the country like this.

20ft clearing and sending container is $7300 will get it to Nigeria, booking for container in China is $1900+$100 load+$5300 clearing in Nigeria, if you add it up everything will be around $7300

40ft is around $11,633 with clearing and sending

I told him same thing before seeing your comment. I think he meant both shipping and clearing. Even if he meant both shipping and clearing, I don't think it should be up to that figure that he was told. From my online research, I think it should be around $5000 for shipping and clearing of 20 ft container, am I right?

Firstly, do your feasibility study very well. Dont go and ship goods that u will run at loss. Calculate the cost of buiyng and shipping, knw the container you want to rent i.e 20FT or 40FT, Knw the cost of clearing your container here in Nigeria. After then weight ur option whether it is good to go.

Secondly, knw the shipping line available that can carry ur goods. In china we have CMA CGM, CHINA SHIPPING MAERSK LINES, MSC etc.

Thirdly, talk to the Manufacturer that u want to ship ur goods to Nigeria maybe they can be of help.

Do, that one first then i will tell u what to do. I can also help with the cost of clearing here in Nigeria

I am telling you this out of experience, tel your manufacturer to use mask line, the price is not stable but the current price to onne (ph) is 2050usd but Lagos will be less, mask line will make it easy for you to track your container

Thanks for your input. I have a Chinese agent that I will use to facilitate the whole process of paying the manufacturer. So basically, it is the manufacturing company that searches for shipping company for me, right? Is it okay to pay for the shipping before it gets to Nigeria and can I pay for the shipping when the goods get to Nigeria?

Thank you. We just need a shipping company. I have a chinese agent I have been using for over 1 year now. So that is not a problem. The problem is the shipping side because I am looking for a way to cut cost which the shipping handlers in the mini importation section charges too high.

Yrs, the manufacturing company should find a shipping company for you and they are responsible for packing and loading. freight is 4400USD standard.

You pay upfront, I advise you go through alibaba escrow. What are you bringing in, normally I don't even worry about shipping because I ask the seller what their product and shipping cost is to Nigeria. If you even go on alibaba and discuss with a seller, they can make all the information you need available to you. Just negotiate with 5 to 10 good suppliers and take the best price.

Are you sure they didn't over inflate the cost for you? that is about $8333 in shipping and clearing fees. My max estimate is around $5000 based on research I have conducted over the internet for the past few days.
