IS200 or an IS300?

Did it not come with a valid MOT certificate?

Congratulations...... Hope you got insurance quotations prior to purchasing?
IS 200...initially wanted to get a VW Eos, but because of my initial insurance decided on something cheaper. I did all the above, including looking under the car, But i was so excited, i didn't realise the corrosion was a bit extensive, i'm not sure if the linkages have ever been changed on the car. I might have to spend a little more i suppose, the service history is good, the mileage is just shy of 69,000

Elbow grease and few replacement parts, should make it come good again. From silencer to cat, might require replacement soonest (any leaks)? Did the MOT history highlight any rusting issues ?

i don't think there are any leaks, you wouldn't suspect a thing unless you look well. The exhaust corrosion is not actually as bad as the joints...its the joints that petrify me...its a smooth ride otherwise

Congrats Geetrix..

I know you’ve written about it before but I’m too lazy to scroll backwards, lol.

So I’ve got my provisional license, and I don’t know what to do next. Like I literally started googling about it when I decided to stop at nairaland and see what’s going on first.

So any recommendations would be helpful. A few jobs have turned me down because I don’t have a car as it’s a requirement for them *rme

You passed in the third attempt, but you passed the theory once right? It was just the driving test that seemed difficult yeah? Did you pay for trainings or you just decided to wing it? (I’m considering winging it, Cos it costs about £200 for the driving test, but £1000 for training before the driving test... so even if I do the driving test 3 times, it’s still half of paying for the lessons).

Ok so when I’m buying a car, I have to ensure that it comes with a valid MOT cert and check the mileage to make sure it’s less than 70k right? And then I’m meant to get insurance for the car too immediately after buying it right?

Am I meant to buy a car before my driving test?

Like I’ve driven for 10 years but have no idea what all this is, it’s crazy- Nigeria is so different from here! grin

To live and work in the UK, you will need someone or an organisation to sponsor you on a tier 2 visa or settlement visa.. there is also a tier 1 visa but the visas I’m aware of are only the tier 2 and settlement.

If you have a job in Nigeria (preferably nursing or medicine), you can apply for a job here and if you get the job, they may be willing to sponsor you on your tier 2 visa.

If you had a husband/lesbian partner that’s a British citizen, you can get sponsored on a settlement visa.

If you don’t have the above requirements, then I’m sorry, you might not be able to come live and work here permanently.

When buying a vehicle, it is advisable for the vehicle to have a long MOT, and you check that odometer is not clocked.

It is important to get an insurance quote prior to buying. So you know if you can comfortably afford the insurance policy. When you buy the car, you MUST have an insurance policy active, before you drive vehicle away(not forgetting vehicle road fund duty).

If you have someone that has a full UK licence (must be 3 years), that can give you extra lessons, it might be worth it.

But be mindful, if none of the above is the case. No point buying not unless you have a garage or drive to park the vehicle. Vehicles not taxed and parked on the roadside would be clamped by DVLA, which would incure a fine of £250 to release vehicle.....

The matter too plenty joor ...... Make I off my mic.....

So I want to give an update on my job search.

I have applied for a few BA roles on jobsite, Reed, Indeed, etc.. but it seemed that they want someone with more experience so I decided to step downwards and apply as a Jnr, but this still wasn’t easy as I’m in the North, which isn’t as great as the south. Also, the few offers I got cake with strict requirements of a car, so that ruined my chances 3 times (as the work places aren’t easily commutable).

I’m an IT BA, but the most BA roles they have are for finance BAs (people with financial background/experience), so this seemed to hinder my search a bit.

My husband’s friend then introduced me to huntswood/momenta/hazellcarr to work as a complaint handler. Apparently they paid quite well, and they are all financial services institutions, so I jumped at the offer and applied- this is the much needed financial background. But I didn’t get a call back. I then toned down my CV to include my student jobs, and admin work, but I still didn’t get a call back.

Finally, I was advised to call them up, which I did, and lo and behold, it was as if they were begging me to come work for them. That’s when I realised that it’s best to call the organisation to inquire about vacancies, then they would give you their personal-official email to mail your CV to, instead of the generic email that the CVs get dumped into.

I’ve written this to inspire someone like me who didn’t know where to start applying from, and didn’t have anyone to ask questions- I asked a few friends in the south to give me tips on how to start but they were being secretive or just not being helpful. I want to make sure I’m different from them hence this epistle!

Thank you so much! It’s not as hard as I’ve been thinking! grin

Nice to get a proper instructor for a few lessons (your inlaws would have picked up a few bad driving habits), and use extra driving coaching for driving confidence.....

It's preferable to know how much the insurance would cost prior to purchasing a vehicle. You could buy a car for £900.00 and end up paying an insurance premium of £1800 (this might easily be affordable), but best to know prior to purchasing. So you can either buy a vehicle with a lower displacement, lower theft rate, higher rating vehicle protection etc etc etc.

Has I dey see you so, nah Bentley I know say u wan buy.....

Not sure it is worth buying a car when you are yet to pass your practical exams except you are sure you will always get someone to teach you. Also, you might be tempted to drive it on your own without an experienced driver beside you. This will lead to fine and 6 points if caught. In addition, a lot of the experienced drivers already have some bad habits which might not help you at all. It might take longer time to pass your test. Another thing to consider is that you will pay tax and insurance on the car. If you live in some areas in Manchester, the amount you will pay for insurance might be more than enough to pay for driving lessons.

As your kind of job mostly require drivers' licence. I will advise you just get an instructor and dedicate some time to passing the driving test. If you have no driving experience at all, you can budget about £1000-£1500 (average as you can spend more or less). Prior driving experience in Nigeria might reduce the amount (Not guaranteed as a lot of drivers in Nigeria have bad driving habits which one will have to unlearn).

BA /pmo jobs have been bastardised by the cowboy training centres. More so, you will be competing with seasoned BAs who are also out of jobs.. So the chance is slim.

Back in the day, when ppi was hot cake that's when agencies like huntswood, momenta etc sprang up...for a starter like you, it's a foot in the door but me I won't touch them with a large barge pole. Main reason being their payment terms is shyte and their rates are uber shyte.
