Suprised to see this bad-boy hasnt seen more use in the African battle space.

Would be great to outfit a light Cav unit wit - highly mobile formations who's job is to either screen your main force in conventional operations (on the front during an advance, or the flanks during an attack) or form a QRF in the event that any large insurgent groupings are identified.

Yeah. Netanyahu visits Moscow every month pressing Jewish indigeneship buttons on both sides so Israel Russia conflict is remote ..but it will not be a fair fight. They won't allow advanced missiles in Syria or Lebanon. They can't help it if it's deployed in Iran.
I am not in support of Donald Trump btw . I think the man is an idxxt, oversimplistic and insecure amateur politician trying to whip up his base. Europe will render the US irrelevant and powerless in influence within the next few years.

I don't doubt the Russian system only that dey don't want to be drawn into the secondary war.

but I thought the Iranians said they have a system more capable than the Russian S300 sam.just wondering why their are not yet deployed.

1. Will S-400 stop F-35s firing cruise missiles? Maybe not.
2. There is a time lag between receiving S-400 missile system and commissioning / operationalize them. Won't Israel most likely take them out before they are installed. They have the intelligence capabilities. They even have people in Russia who will deliver the relevant info the next day they are shipped
3. Dense UAV actions combined with commandos.

Israel's strikes on Syria saw 28 planes take part in raids with a total of around 70 missiles fired, the Russian Ministry of Defence (MoD) said on 10 May.

The MoD said in a statement: ‘28 Israeli F-15 and F-16 aircraft were used in the attack, which released around 60 air-to-ground missiles over various parts of Syria. Israel also fired more than 10 tactical ground-to-ground missiles.’

Russia said Syria's air defence systems shot down more than half of the missiles, while the extent of the damage was still being assessed.

The MoD said: ‘The locations of Iranian armed groups and also the positions of the Syrian army's air defences in the area around Damascus and in the south of Syria were attacked.’

Israel carried out the raids after it said around 20 rockets were fired from Syria at its forces in the occupied Golan Heights overnight.

It blamed the rocket fire on Iran's Al-Quds force, adding that Israel's anti-missile system intercepted four of the projectiles while the rest did not land in its territory.

On 10 May Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov called for ‘restraint on all sides’, adding that Moscow was ‘concerned’ at the development.

The strikes came a day after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held talks in Moscow with Russian President Vladimir Putin, whose country has provided massive military and diplomatic backing to the regime of President Bashar al-Assad in Syria's seven-year civil war.

At the meeting Putin also expressed ‘deep concern’ over US President Donald Trump's decision to withdraw from a key 2015 Iran nuclear deal on 8 May, a decision Netanyahu supported.

On 9 May the Russian leader called the situation in the Middle East ‘unfortunately very acute.’

Netanyahu had told Putin that ‘it is the right of every state, certainly the right of Israel, to take the necessary steps in order to protect itself from (Iranian) aggression),’ his office said in a statement on 9 May, referring to Iran's presence in Syria.

Iran is actually denying that their forces were attacked in Syria. This is a reluctance to admit failures. They are only saying that Israel committed aggression against Syria.
The original Israeli statement was clear and specific. They hit all Iranian bases in Syria and destroyed all.

This notion of missiles intercepts by Pantisir system belongs to the era of non smart, inertial guidance only missiles , the missiles that we saw in action evaded all intercepts and they had video cameras showing their homing towards objectives till destruction of targets were achieved.

Any proof to show that Iranian targets were destroyed? The only proof of the attack was the video showing the attack on the Syrian pantsir. The same Russia that accurately reported that 28 F15s and F16s fired 60 air to surface missiles and land based systems fired 10 missiles are also the ones to claim more than half of the missiles were intercepted.

A functional SA-22 would never let a missile reach it, a former deputy head of the Russian Air Force told RT. The Russian-made system filmed getting hit by an Israeli missile in Syria was either turned off or out of ammo.
Following a massive airstrike on what it called Iranian targets in Syria on Thursday, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have released footage taken aboard a Spike NLOS cruise missile, which is seen hitting what appears to be a Pantsir-S1 (NATO reporting name SA-22 Greyhound) air defense system.
There can be only two possible explanations for a successful strike against a Pantsir-S1: "One is that it had already used up its ammunition reserve. The other is that it was simply turned off; it wasn't battle ready," Aytech Bizhev, a former Russian Air Force Deputy Commander-in-Chief, said.
"There can be no third option as it wouldn't have let itself to be destroyed… When it's battle-ready it performs constant surveillance of enemy aircraft and has a very fast reaction time. It would've brought down those cruise missiles with either its cannons or own missiles," he explained.
The Israeli footage shows none of the Syrian Pantsir's weapons were even pointing at the incoming missile. The three human figures standing outside the vehicle in the video, likely the crew, also suggest that it wasn't operational at the time of the attack.
According to Bizhev, the Israeli Air Force used its geographical advantage to catch the Syrian military off guard on Thursday.
"No matter how well-trained your personnel is and how good your hardware is, you know that the fly-in time between Israel and Syria is zero [as the countries have a common border]. Furthermore, the Israeli F15 and F16 fighters carried out the airstrikes without entering the [Syrian] air defense area."
"They approached at low altitudes then bounced from behind the Golan Heights, carried out the attack and left," he added.
According to the expert, the Pantsir-S1 "requires between three to five minutes to go operational." Keeping the systems on full alert at all times is impossible, mainly because it's going to be absolutely exhausting for the crew.

A military observer for the Gazeta.ru website, retired Colonel Mikhail Khodorenok, also pointed out that the Russian-made system wasn't in any way camouflaged or placed in a specially prepared position at the time of the airstrike. "This indicates that the Pantsir- S1 wasn't ready for engagement."
Khodorenok said that incident in Syria doesn't give a reason "to question the high combat capabilities" of the Pantsir-S1 system.
