You ARE SUCH a BIG FOOL, you still do not get the point right do you? or probably I did not explain better? No wonder you spend your time fighting JOHESU. I WAS TRYING TO TELL YOU THAT STUPID DOCTORS LIKE YOU STARTED TREATMENT WITHOUT PROPER DIAGNOSIS, if you You bleeping Doctors had ordered the complete test you would have saved us the cost & time without progress. From what I saw the difference between Nigerian Doctors and Italian doctors that treated my inlaw was that, the Italian doctors worked with lab scientist (who suggested some more test), pharmacist, Nurses and more closely with Dietitian (providing and managing my in law therapeutic diet). Now a typical Nigeria doctor may be due to superiority complex, was using my uncle to do trial and error with antibiotics even when we can afford a test of a million Naira. In my presence a Nigerian nurse suggested a test be done in a private Lab but guess what you Nigeria doctors ignored her maybe due to superiority complex again. Now I wish to shock you that I saw specifically Italian doctors, nurses and dietitians discuss and came up with the best drug and nutrients to use in the treatment. They spoke like brothers and sisters, unlike your bleeping Nigerian doctors who think you are prophet and do not need any advice even in areas you have less knowledge of. Some day I visited Federal teaching hospital Abakaliki due to some back pains and I was nice enough to provide bleeping Nigerian doctor with vital drugs I took before and even told him that my family doctor suggested I see a physiotherapist but the bleeping doctors repeated similar drug I took before with multivitamins. To cut the story short I requested to see a physiotherapist and insisted after the bleeping doctor tried to ignore me on another appointment. Today I am free of the back pain courtesy of the physiotherapist I visited. Nigerian bleeping doctors can help the healthcare system if only they cooperate rather than fight other healthcare practitioners

ure a nurse and a pharmacist is making such statement how only surgery differentiated him, u saw it and didn't condemn him or rather call that childish . bad, coz many people are reading this and he's already spoon feeding the public falsehood about pharmD. (only surgery differentiate Kor)

u said this isn't an exam ground, so u mean he would have answered perfectly suppose it was,
his lecturer won't give him such question coz he wasn't trained on such way,
this is what am faced with every good day in medical school,

we offer same course with BSC anatomy and physiology but their prof lecturers don't teach medic,
my lecturers are surgeon/consultant who are seeing life of the body who teach us clinical physiology ND anatomy, don't lemme talk of BCH, My BcH doctor lecturers are wizard..

and someone just think since he offered surface anatomy//Physiology course for few days, he can meet patient just like doctors..

Hmmmm I think the pharmacy technician should head the pharmacy if he/she is the oldest person in that pharmacy, I don't even see why an orderly in a lab who has spent 10 years should earn less than a lab scientist just coming from youth service. Its even more annoying to find out that a young med lab sci graduate who just resumed work earns more than a reg nurse who has been working for several years.

I'm feeling like a boss right now. Imagine 5 damn organisations teaming up to fight the doctors and yet can achieve a heck.
Doctors own the Government. Till tomorrow doctors will be CMDs and pathologists and Radiologists will head the medical laboratories.
JOHESU have a nice time treating your headache. You guys haven't seen anything yet.

In standard practise, Pharmacists own the pharmacy shops/companies. Doctors respect that fact.
In standard practise , Doctors head the hospital including laboratories but you guys don't want to respect that fact.

You guys can't compare your meacre training to that of medicine. Pharmacists don't study pathology so they can never take the place of a physician else they are practising quackery. To make things clear pathology includes morbid pathology, hematology, chemical pathology and microbiology. Pharmacists are trained in only pharmaceutical microbiology and not the medical aspect. My immediate kid bro is a 400L pharm student in UNN. I do assess his notes and there is a clear cut difference from pure medical microbiology. All their microbiology are with applications to drug production(antibiotics) and therapeutics even their practicals are somewhat different. They are not much concerned with course of clincal presentation, epidemiology and diagnosis. So telling the gullible public that pharmacists are equivalent with doctors in knowledge of pathology is outright hypocrisy. Doctors don't study pharmacognsy thus we never interfere with their pharmaceutical companies. Doctors are trained to carry all information in bulk by test by fire in MBs exams with tendency of failing out while others write it semester by semester and are allowed to carryover if they fail.
Talking of medical laboratory science, doctors are train in entirety of it. I exhausted the entire parasitology in my first year. I exhausted the entire pathology in my fourth year then again studied the treatments in medicine but med lab sci. never completed the aspect of treatment. Tell me who knows better? You know the diseases but can't treat? You are of little use and dispensable in the presence of a pathologist who in addition knows the treatment by virtue of undergraduate studies in medicine! The patient doesn't care about the disease but just wants to get well.
You guys should know your limit in the health sector.
Medical laboratory scientist maltreats science lab technicians and microbiolgists and yet complain of maltreatment by doctors? My next post will reveal what the SLT projected in the round table meeting.
If so then take it as heirachical dominance.

Browse Yayale Ahmed committee. You will see Doctors have more solid grounds of arguement than others. I wonder why the noble pharmacists chose to associate themselves with hypocrisy. In the meeting SLT indirectly attacked MLS. That is just the beginning of JOHESU failure. Any SlT or microbiologist working in hospital lab can attest to how they are maltreated by the MLS.

Doctors are just worrying over nothing. We should even support JOHESU push for salary increment but with grounds that it will be applicable to both parties. Only then will the RELATIVITY make much sense. E.g if a medlab sci. earns 200k doc earns 300k if govt increases it by 20% the medlab sci. will 240k while doc earns 360k. The relativity moves from 100k to 120k. So it could be to the doctors' favour.

You guys can't achieve a dim other than that allowed by medical doctors. I can bet my testes for a bilateral orchidectomy on that.
We will addresses all these acts of insubordination by JOHESU, frontally!

Proudly a boss on top of the matter.

Parity, Equity Or Slavery: The Dilemma of the Nigerian Health Sector Wage System.

By Aniey Obot.

The Nigerian health sector has been tumultuous for some times now. It is either members of the Nigerian medical association (NMA) are downing tools using its affiliate, the national association of resident doctors (NARD) as her war horse or the members of the joint health sector unions (JOHESU) are on strike paralyzing health services in the country. Presently, health services in the country have been paralyzed for over three weeks now due to the ongoing strike by members of JOHESU, comprising all health workers aside medical practitioners.
One of the reasons JOHESU, which is a marriage of necessity and convenience of all the registered trade unions in the Nigerian health sector, is on strike, is the wage system in the sector. They are pushing for an equitable and fair wage system, describing the present wage system as a sort of slavery. The NMA which is the umbrella body for all medical and dental practitioners in the country, is seriously pressurizing the government not to grant JOHESU’s demand because according to her, JOHESU is asking for pay parity with doctors. According to NMA, this is against international best practices. This was echoed by the ministers for health and labour who incidentally are members of the NMA.
Parity, Equity and Slavery! These words have been on the front burner of discussions within the sector. NMA is rejecting parity, JOHESU is denouncing slavery and asking for Equity. To understand the discussion, these words must be defined. We take the definitions from dictionary.com. Parity is defined as the state or condition of being equal, especially as regards status or pay. Equity is defined as the quality of being fair and impartial. Slavery is defined as a condition of having to work very hard without proper remuneration or appreciation.
The story of the wage system in the Nigerian health sector is a very long and complex one. To avoid boredom, I will concentrate on the evolution of the present salary structures in the sector namely CONMESS and CONHESS. In 2009, the federal government approved CONMESS for medical and dental practitioners alias medical doctors and CONHESS for other professionals and workers in the sector. These salary structures are gauged against the popular grade levels in the civil service. The basic tenets for these salary structures are that, every worker on the same grade level should earn the same basic salary and common allowances now called consolidated salary. Peculiar allowances should be paid to different professional groups as approved. Different professions have different entry level according to their years of training and the work they do. Any future adjustment must be done on both tables. These they say is to maintain an equitable pay relativity (this is a topic for another day). The NMA and JOHESU where actually unhappy with the new salary structures, because of the pay gap. NMA claimed it was too narrow, and JOHESU claimed it was too wide, they accepted the salary structures and forged ahead. Surprisingly, in 2014, against the tenets of the 2009 agreement, the federal government approved an upward adjustment of CONMESS to the satisfaction of NMA without an equivalent upward adjustment CONHESS.
The real bone of contention here is the issue of pay gap between the medical doctors and other health professionals. To appreciate the cries of JOHESU, an analysis of the wage system in the Nigerian health sector is necessary. For the analysis, a nurse will be used to represent an average health professional. If a post NYSC medical doctor without any postgraduate certification or experience and a double qualified nurse (a registered nurse who has a post graduate training as a midwife) are employed the same day into the federal civil service, the doctor will get employed into the service on CONMESS 3 which is Grade level 13, while the nurse gets employed in the service on CONHESS 7, which is Grade level 8. At the end of the month, the salary of the nurse will be less than 30% that of the doctor. The nurse will need to work for about 15 years to get to grade level 13 which is the entry level for a post NYSC medical doctor. After these 15 years, the nurse’s salary is still less than the salary of a newly employed doctor. To earn the same as a newly employed medical doctor, the nurse will have to work for about 21 years, assuming the nurse passes all the promotion interviews!
During the course of their services to Nigeria, both of them may be given in service specialist training. On successful completion of such trainings, the medical doctor will be promoted to grade level 15 and called a consultant. With this new position comes a new allowance called specialist allowance, while the nurse will be posted to the area of need of the newly acquired skill without any promotion or specialist allowance. The nurse will keep on working waiting for her next promotion interview before he/she can enjoy any promotion if he/she passes the interview.
One of the reasons JOHESU is on strike is to narrow this pay gap and maintain the 2009 relativity, all they are asking for is for people on the grade level to earn the same consolidated pay (basic salary plus general allowances) whether you are a doctor or a nurse. Earning the same consolidated pay is not the same thing as earning the same salary if you are on the same grade level, each professional or group of professionals earn allowances peculiar to them. Remember it takes a nurse about 15 years to be on the same level with a newly employed doctor. JOHESU is simply saying let an average health professional after spending 15 years in the service earn the same consolidated pay with a newly employed doctor. This does not make the health professional earn the same with the newly employed doctor, as the doctor’s other allowances especially call duty allowance is far more than that of the health professional (for those who earn it). Thus, even after spending 15 years to get to the same level as a newly employed doctor, the average health professional will not even earn as much as a newly employed doctor when the demands of JOHESU are met.
It is so surprising that the NMA and both ministers of health and labour are calling this demand of JOHESU an attempt to achieve pay parity with the doctors. It is evident that they either don’t understand the meaning of pay parity or they don’t understand the relationship between the two salary structures in our health sector. I will not want to believe that they are mischievous, as only mischievous people will go on national television and dish out what they know are lies to win sympathy from the public.
Now the onus is on the public to judge if JOHESU’s description of their ordeal in the hands of our health managers as slavery, and their demands for an equitable, fair and just wage system in the health sector is tantamount to requesting for pay parity with doctors!

And what is it are they doing to SLT and microbiologists?
To rule out prejudice and bias your question will be best answered by a microbiologist or SLT in the forum. I analyze from the point of observation and personal interactions with single hunour microbiologist(B.sc)

This is a discussion between us so I want us to talk.
Carefully analyse the two parties mentioned and draw your inference. We can discuss as matured minds and should they contribute to the discuss fine and good.

Are microbiologists and SLT part of the health team for starters?

You didn't know? Go and reasearch who are part of the medical laboratory using wikipedia. Them being part of the interdisciplinary round table meeting should tell you more.
If you like hold a ph.D in microbiology the MLStists sit on your head in Nigeria. They won't criticize this post because they are guilty of what they do to the microbiologists and SlTs.

Pathologists are the head. Browse the head of medical laboratory in Hopkins Hospital.

Okay
What's the prejudice with doctors and those who parade themselves as doctors (auxiliaries and charlatans). Why cant they be allowed also at least they know to some reasonable amount things doctors know by virtue of their training?
That would answer the question you asked about MLS, MCB and SLT. Why shout quackery when you don't know a quack from a real professional.

Medical laboratory science isn't studied in Nigeria alone, what you are claiming isn't done anywhere in the world. SLT and microbiologist do not work in any medical laboratory anywhere in the world that has medical laboratory scientist around.
You should be reasonable enough to decipher where SLT fits into SCIENCE LAB. And by the way, everywhere in the world MLS is in charge of Medical microbiology laboratory (hospital based labs) which is a branch of MLS not a microbiology lab (SLT works there) which can be seen in science department.

Do you know Wikipedia isn't a reliable site to get genuine information from. Aside Wikipedia, show me where such aberration happens. Even countries where pathologists exist, they (pathologist) don't enter the lab but are in their specialised clinics.

P.S: which country does such hierarchy exist?
And did you know before Yayale Ahmed recommendation there was also a recommendation report from Alhaji Bello Gusau? Find that report and let's make comparison.

There are many options for washing the toilet in a hospital. There are many options for washing linen in the hospital.

All these self indulgent displays are important only to you.

Everyone is useful in their own way in their own time.

Who gets more money ultimately is a Market decision . That i why Davido gets more money than doctors. The market decides.

Doctors cannot be judge and jury in their own case.

Let us privatize and remove hospitals from the FG then those who pay for the services can decide if they want to see a doctor nurse phrmacist doctor or ALL of them.

No where will you go into the market and see rice and beans arguing about who should cost more. You will not hear rice telling beans what to do or no do.

There's going to be a holistic reform of the healthcare delivery system in Nigeria. Pharmacists will no longer be restricted to drug dispensary, but would be involved in ward rounds to check how drugs are administered, adverse drug reactions, drug errors, drug-drug interaction, foods being consumed by patients and their possible effects on the drugs they are taking, patients counseling etc. At the end of the day, the patient would benefit maximally from drug therapy. Nigerians will stop dying from doctors' prescription errors and other drug-related deaths. Do I need to inform you that this would greatly improve life span and the general perception of our healthcare system in the international arena
