Packaged visa services assistance is not a crime in itself. It's not only in Nigeria that you have immigration consultants and lawyers assisting with visa services. The only problem is, in Nigeria, the fine line between consulting and touting is oft crossed, and fraud comes into play.

I use agents myself, in a lot of instances. Try getting an appointment in any of those Schengen embassies, for instance. Those embassies are blatantly and overtly corrupt, so I save myself the blushes and use an agent. Until recently when the US embassy moved their traffic to VFS, I was using an agent to secure embassy appointments, cos I simply did not have time to chase up the appointment myself.

I think what people can do is what I already see on Nairaland, in this section; experienced people offering free advice on various categories of visas to various countries. Readers should take advantage of the free stuff. Also bear it in mind that nobody can guarantee you a visa, not even the Ambassador of that country. That's the part most Nigerians don't like to hear, I guess, which is why they seek out touts to help facilitate the process.

Of course you could argue that the activities of the agents have contributed to those bottlenecks, but my take is, if the embassies were serious about canning the activities of touts, they would find a way to simplify their visa application process, just like the USA, UK, Belgium, Austria, and recently South Africa have done. Look at how easy it is to get a visa to the UAE. That alone, from my perspective, has cost the EU and other nations a huge amount of tourist and business dollars from Nigeria, as people now choose to vacation in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, rather than face the hassle in some embassy, or have to pay some tout.

If USA is easier than Canada, then I will focus on it when I arrive to USA, it won't be a difficult taxk to get into Canada.

BUT UNDER NO CONDITION WILL I PAY ANY UPFRONT TO ANY AGENT, BUT IF THE PERSON NEED SOLID AGREEMENT, I WILL TAKE HIM TO MY BANK AND REACH AGREEMENT WITH HIM THAT THE MOMENT THE VISA IS READ AND VERIFIED HE WILL GET PAID.

SO MANY SCHOOL IN CANADA AND US HAVE SENT ME Visiting Student Application but

Where did I say that one o? It's UAE visa that is easy to secure, and that for holidaymakers - the single-entry 14-day permit.

OAM4J: So many times I hear and read stories of people being scammed in their bid to travel abroad. As much as I hate these wicked scammers, I also wonder why a lot of our people keep giving themselves to these scammers. Going abroad is not as difficult as they make a lot of them to believe. Some of them are even over-qualified for d visa they need, yet they will still look for agents/scammers. I don’t know if it is laziness or something else.

It is cheaper, safer and sometimes even faster if you process your visa yourself. Even if you don’t get the visa, at least you would not loose your money to scammers. All you need is information and advice from the right quarters.

Step 1: Go online, or to the embassy and gather all the requirements you need to get the visa to your destination. Or ask here in Nairaland, people will be glad to give you all the information.

Step 2: Start gathering all those requirements and documents. Make sure they are genuine and original; those embassies staffs are no fool. These may take you some times, that is why you should start early, and please don’t be in such a hurry.

Step 3: Go to the embassy or the embassy’s accredited Agents, apply and submit your application, if you need interview, they will call you.

If you submit all the requirements and they are genuine, YOU WILL GET THE VISA, if they don’t give you, you can appeal and you will win the appeal.

Good morning,I don't think all agents are scammers.there are good agents,just because an agent duped you does not mean all of them are fake.some people have their reasons why they use agents.for instance a parent who did not go to school or stopped schooling after primary or secondary may want to use an agent for the child's visa application and he doesn't really trust that child and he has money he might want to use an agent to help.I think you advise people that want to use agent should do underground research or the agent,ask questions and allow people(friends,relatives and colleagues)know the agent you are using.read the contract before signing,go for their seminars and see their work.the problem with Nigerians that want to travel out don't want to tell anybody that they are travelling and this get them into the wrong agents had.moreover,most people don't know about nairaland until they are doing a google research.even when some read the forum they are not interested in joining.

There should be a balance,most nigerians don't know you can apply for visa online.I would love if nairaland can do adverts about their forum in the media like news papers,blogs,popular websites just like olx,wechat or put it up smart phone shops so people are can rate it etc.most people don't know about nairaland.

]very sensible thread, most people who like to use agents are either ignorant or lazy, being ignorant itself might not be too bad than being contented with ignorance, don't get me wrong I've been mislead by one of the agents about 7 years ago and since then i made up my mind never to be content with ignorance hence my desire to seek for information at all cost. After the incident i've obtained visas for myself and my family members and have assisted so many friends to get their visa through the right channels. Till today i still seek for
more information on daily basis not only on visa but on politics, academic, history and many more.

visa applicants should try to seek for relevant informtions to assist them in getting visas baring in mind that not all visa categories will suit everyone's situation and present financial circumstance

You are judged on you strong proof that you will return home and your finances.

Common ways of getting U.S. Permanent Residency (Green Card) are either through family (relatives who are either U.S. Citizens or Lawful permanent residents) or an employment offer.
