The Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II, has said he has left the crisis in the Edo State House of Assembly in the hands of God and the ancestors for resolution.

The monarch stated this, yesterday, when the Senate ad hoc committee, investigating the assembly crisis, paid him a courtesy call in his palace.

Oba Ewuare II said the palace had intervened in the crisis in its own way.

“We live it in the hands of God and the ancestors for now. We pray God and our ancestors to help us,” he said.

“We have intervened; the House of Representative was here last week and you are here now to help us resolve the issue. I pray that God and the ancestors should give you the wisdom to resolve the crisis and bring peace and unity,” he added.

On his part, Governor Godwin Obaseki, while meeting with the committee, said he had fulfilled his constitutional requirement by issuing a proclamation letter for the inauguration of the assembly.

“The constitution is clear on issues at the assembly. I have issued a proclamation letter and I have fulfilled my constitutional responsibility. I believe in the separation of powers.

“There were issues and we expected that those in higher authority should have stepped in to ensure that they are resolved but now the matter is in court,” he said.

“It is a very sad situation as we never anticipated this will happen. We are happy your committee is here on a fact-finding mission. If this has been done by the leadership of my party, we will not have gotten where we are today,” he added.

Earlier, the deputy chairman of the committee, Senator Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, said they were on a fact-finding mission to get first-hand information on the crisis in the state assembly.

You are leaving Edo assembly to the hands of ancestors to do what?

Africans will still amaze in this 21st century.

My suggestion to Obaseki is to not issue any new letter of inauguration to the Edo house of assembly.

Let the NASS take over the assembly.

From my knowledge, members of the national assembly cannot impeach Obaseki until after the elections.

Let Oshiomole bring on his war.

As powerful as Benin Monarchs have been in history, they have always believed in "Almighty God" which they call "Osanobua" and the ancestors. Unlike some who claim to be God but still suffer diarrhoea after eating contaminated amala and ewedu. grin

Oshiomole brought disunity to Edo atate, it would have been better if osunbo was left to be the governor then, oshiomole achieved nothing in the state other than accumulating personal wealth to construct tertiary institution that is too expensive for the average person. The removal of oshiomole's influence in the state the better for Edo state.

Oshiomhole is quietly digging his political grave. I hope he knows he can never win this war?

Yesterday, he accused Chief Anenih and the Igbinedions of godfatherism. Today, he has become another godfather in place of the late Anenih and the Igbinedions. What changed?

Oshiomhole was a nobody until the Labour movement threw him up. Now, he thinks he has become big enough to single handedly appoint and disappoint the Governor, Deputy Governor, House of Assembly members(with their principal officers), NASS members, Commissioners and LG chairmen! Haba Oshiomhole, even you didn't allow that, how do you expect another man to?

Besides Obaseki is Bini and the Binis are angry that a man form the backwaters of Iyamho in Auchi will dictate how their son - a Prince of the Bini kingdom-- should conduct himself in office.

That's what you call 'learning from your peers'. Ganduje-Sanusi drama. Wise king. But it could have been wiser if he said he's doing all he can to find a lasting solution between the waring factions. Nigerians love lies and liars.

This is a lesson to both godfather and godson.

Politicians should stop playing godfather.

So also politicians should stop playing godson.

Obaseki is equally as guilty as Oshiomole in all this.

Any politician tells you "Come and let me make you governor"

You must prepare yourself for what is to come.

I actually wish oath of office is taken in the name of the ancestors, all this rubbish will not be happening. God is merciful so political leaders take Him for granted.

You've said it all, this is the same Edo state where the current National chairman of APC remove the roof of the state House of Assembly and sitting was done in government house why didn't the National Assembly took over then. OSHOIMOILE should be warned Edo is not Lagos state.
