maksteve:Have same issue for 2 years now and have tried all sorts of fix Short of changing the transmission unfortunately no fix. If you accelerate gently it shifts from 1 to 2 smoothly. My next step is to buy Lucas transmission fix and if it spoils the transmission...... So be it. If you find a fix let me know |

Re: Maintenance Tips For Honda Cars by xcitedjay(m): 9:26pm On Jul 19, 2019 |
Bighead9: For one it's not too reliable as it's a first year model. Also it's expensive to maintain, you can go for the 2012 Model if you really want to get the Accord. |
Re: Maintenance Tips For Honda Cars by Namzy(m): 10:23pm On Jul 19, 2019 |
dmariowizzy:I know . But I'll try the Lucas ist . It's cheap and on the bright side if it kills my transmission I'll finally buy another. |

Re: Maintenance Tips For Honda Cars by adanny01(m): 1:35pm On Jul 20, 2019 |
Bighead9: The major issue with this car is the leather seats. The engine is kinda expensive at range <300k> and the V6 is quite expensive at range <500k> The transmission is rock solid (if you stick to recommended oil) The ground clearance is not great. It eats brake pads more than normal. Power steering, never use ATF. Lastly and more importantly, the usual engine killer on this car is a blocked Catalytic converter (indomie). 3 Likes 1 Share |

Re: Maintenance Tips For Honda Cars by adanny01(m): 11:30pm On Jul 20, 2019 |
Bighead9: Yes but compared to its mates, its affordable except for the V6. The V6 is VCM and has good fuel economy. The VCM technology shuts 1 bank of the engine depending on power needs. Because the VCM is in the 1st generation with the 2008 Accord, it has some problems and mechanics often mess with it leading to more failures. The 4cyl is more reliable. |
Re: Maintenance Tips For Honda Cars by nas00(m): 5:36am On Jul 21, 2019 |
Bighead9: Is the 2008 Accord as rugged as the EOD? The EOD (2003-2005) and DC (2006-2007) Accords belong to the same 7th generation. The 2008 Accord was the first in line of the 8th generation. In addition to the contributions already made by other users, you should note these: - The 4-cyl engines of both generations are essentially the same in design. Only that the 2008 has a range of displacement (2.0, 2.4L), as against standard 2.4L in North American 7th generation Accords. Good thing is that engine displacement does not necessarily determine engine longevity. - Poor ground clearance is common to both (but least in the 2006 and 2007 Accords due to their larger wheel diameter relative to ground clearance). By design, the front bumpers hang considerably lower in the 8th generation, so except you will be driving mostly on good roads, the front end may soon be disfigured. - If you will be driving mostly on pot hole riddled roads, ensure you buy a first grade tokunbo Accord. Otherwise, ball joint issues may be common to most Nigerian used Accords for obvious reasons. - Do not buy a V6 except you have a good reasons to. The maintenance is invariably more expensive... And it is more likely to punish you if you don't keep to schedule. - If you pay attention to regular routine maintenance, any of the Accords should serve you well. All considered though, my opinion is that a very good toks 2007 Accord will be better compared to the 2008. - Good thing about these Accords (whether 7th or 8th generation) is that most spare parts are mostly readily available. Thanks. |

nas00: Sorry to chip in I wanted to get that ride so bad. But my road is very uneven(terrible) so I'm guessing it's a no. How about the Honda CRV 08 and above. Would that be a better option? Especially as regards maintainable and all that. |
Re: Maintenance Tips For Honda Cars by nas00(m): 10:36am On Jul 21, 2019 |
pcoolioz: You are correct Sir. For such roads, the CRV is clearly your better option. You gain the advantage of better ground clearance and ball joint issues are much less common. Maintenance routine is the same, and the car is quite easy to maintain. That CRV actually has the same engine as the 7th and 8th generation accords. It is just the chassis and interior design that are different. |

pcoolioz: Bros.. if you like the car get it.. forget this road thing, no be today Naija roads don be like this.. people still dey buy some Benz wey dey very close to the ground.. I drive Accord 08 and it's not low as these people are making it look like, been driving my for over a year now, and my front bumper never pull out or sump burst cuz of bad road.. the parts are always available, some say the oil dries all the time, well I'm not experiencing that, maybe their engine is faulty or something.. if you like a car get it don't let anyone tell you otherwise abi na dem one drive am for you?... 5 Likes |
Re: Maintenance Tips For Honda Cars by dmariowizzy(m): 10:42am On Jul 21, 2019 |
nas00: Mind you... The 8the generation doesn't have ball joint issues like the 7th generation or less believe..been driving my 08 Accord for over a year and I haven't changed the ball joint, though I take it to my mechanic for routine checks and he always say the ball joints are still okay... Just because Tobi's 08 accord ball joint pulled out doesn't mean all other 08 accord have ball joint issue... Haba.. 1 Like |
Re: Maintenance Tips For Honda Cars by nas00(m): 10:54am On Jul 21, 2019 |
dmariowizzy: Haha!! I understand you. I mentioned the ball joint issues specifically because it is quite common with us in this environment. The people asking questions need to know all the pros and cons of the cars they intend buying. It is very rare to find ball joint issues on American Honda Accord forums. That implies it is our bad roads and inferior quality replacement parts that make it common here. That said, you have only driven your Accord for one year. I put it to you that you can drive it for ten years without any ball joint issue if you drive with discretion. I say this because I have used a 2003 Accord LX as a daily driver for 8 years now AND I have NEVER had any ball joint issues till date. There is practically no part of Nigeria I haven't driven it to as well. Just because not all Accords will have ball joint issues doesn't mean we should not inform those intending to get the car in our environment of the common possible problems. Cheers! 3 Likes |

Re: Maintenance Tips For Honda Cars by adanny01(m): 12:42pm On Jul 21, 2019 |
pcoolioz: I want to point out that the 2.0L of the 08 has good fuel economy though under powered but will do well if you are not heavy footed. However, its engine is the most expensive. |
