Some of the guys from neighbouring countries who buy goods from nigeria will look for another alternative. It is not good for business. This will affect traders in nigeria who supply goods to these guys who come from these countries.

The border closure is only being PENNY WISE POUND FOOLISH. The general negative impact on the economy is going to be greater than whatever money the government thinks she's realising right now.

It is safe to say those companies are into smuggling, that is if this article is actually true. They should take their smuggling elsewhere.

I hail una sha oo. Eyin Blogger Blogger

Your head correct 100%.

Nigerian market is the largest in Africa.

If you are in a legitimate business, why relocate to a smaller market?

I suspect rice, turkey and chicken smugglers.

We no not need smugglers as employers.

No, China locked it's border for years which forced the Chinese to look inward and develop its own industries. The problem with Nigeria is we dont like short term pain for long term reward.

Any nation with a huge population that wants to truly grow must first develop and give advantage to it's own industries before allowing foreign competition.

When a country like Vietnam is lobbying to open our borders, it tells you how much of their economy and jobs is tied in producing rice for Nigeria. We no get farmers, we no get land?

I blame the useless reporter who failed to even ask the man to name the companies.
Professional journalists woul request a tour to the companies and even interview the workers. But instead they just rushed to publish a one man's complain as news.

Things like this must surely happen if decision like what the government took was taking without due notification. However, it will be so foolish of someone to think such never happened? Guy your thinking is too extra low.
I usually don't do this, but let me say this - Have you heard of companies having objectives, making strategies to achieve their objectives? There is a thing called Porter 5 forces, SWOT analysis, etc.. that would guide management decisions when making these strategies. If a company faces external threats from the government, they don't shut down their companies, rather they look for ways to turn that threat into an opportunity.. Keep in mind that these companies have access to a large market (opportunity).
These companies can partner with local farmers to plant rice (Turning threat to opportunity)

Companies leaving Nigeria due to border closure are the smugglers.

You're right. But Nigeria is only adding salt to injury as it is. The border closure should have come with some palliative measures to cushion the impact of such action. The prices of our local rice etc have skyrocketed. The common man is not finding it funny at all.
