Speaking from a christian perspective, i used to masterbate but no more. I accepted God's word which says if the son of God set you free you are free indeed, so I declared Jesus Christ set me free and i believed it, and used the word of God against demons spirit of immorality.I also try to stay clear from things that will corrupt my mind.

.....
For brethren here on NL that have totally broken free from these familiars shackles and common captivities, help us by telling us how you permanently freed your mind from entertaining or dwelling on the evil thoughts that leads to sins.
There are two kinds of Holiness a believer possesses
1. Imputed Holiness/Righteousness
This is a gift of God so that we can be like Christ to Him who saved us and washed us from all impurities.
2. Behavioural Holiness/ Righteousness
This is what we do because we are His Royal Priesthood, Royal Ambassador

How do we fulfill Behavioural Holiness?
1. Recognise that you were bought with a costly price. The King of the whole universe was humiliated as a purchase price for our freedom and gifts of grace.
2. Recognise that you are an ambassador representing the Kingdom of God here on earth.
A senator of the federal republic of Nigeria would not be found in a bula swallowing Amalia even though he's not committing any crime. A senator is aware he's not representing himself but his constituency everywhere he is.
3. Renew your mind with the word of God as per His will and desire for you. For the mind is where the system of this world pollute and corrupt the whole body. Thy word have I hid in my heart...
4. Iron sharpens iron. Two are better than one. We succeed as Christians when we don't neglect the fellowship of one another. This also include disassociating with corrupting influences.
5. Doing the WORK of the ministry which include PREACHING/TEACHING, SERVING God with our respective spiritual gifts and LOVING others.
An idle hand is the devil's hand tool.
6. Fight your Spiritual Battles: for we wrestle not against flesh and blood but against principalities, powers, spiritual wickedness in the high places...
Some addictions may require deliverance (self deliverance or assisted deliverance). Resist the devil and he shall flee
7. Learn when to flee, and do so without shame if it will ensure your ultimate victory.

If you have further questions or scriptural basis, please feel free to ask.

Shalom

I love this thread and some of the replies so far have been edifying.

I believe the most important part of living the Holy Life is to detest Unholy life.
Until one hates sin and worldliness, he cannot truly desire to leave it behind. (Matthew 16:24-26)

One of the works of the Holy Spirit is to convict the world of sin, righteousness and judgment.
Meaning He helps us see the wrong in sin and the right in righteousness and to make better decisions/choices knowing Christ has already defeated the power causing us to sin and given us Power.

In conclusion, our Journey of Faith starts from the Heart (Spirit), then we grow into manifesting it.
One doesn't become holy by becoming holy overnight. Trust the process. There's a lot God reveals in the process.
It is instructive to know that when the Israelites entered the Promised Land, God did not take away all their enemies in one spell, he left them to overcome them with time so that the land truly won't swallow them up. (Exodus 23:20-30)

Just be sensitive to know what God is dealing with you per season and be growing in All Grace.

I leave you with the words of Apostles Peter and Paul.

2 Peter 1:2-9
Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love. For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
For he who lacks these things is shortsighted, even to blindness, and has forgotten that he was cleansed from his old sins.

Galatians 5:16-26
I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.

Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.

If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.

Keep growing in all Grace and as the Holy Spirit gives you instructions, obey.
Grace to us all as we continue to Grow in Christlikeness and Workmanship.

But sometimes the urge to smoke still comes back so strongly even more than the urge to have sex/fornicate.

My saving Grace has being that I realized throughout my years of ganja addition then, whenever I don't smoke for some days, I'll remember my dreams vividly and the things I saw would always happen.

Ever since I totally quit, this phenomena has been constant. So, I discovered that everyone is his/her best Pastor/Prophet/Alfa/Herbalist if only we can do away with vices such as sexual immorality, smoking, etc.

For brethren here on NL that have totally broken free from these familiars shackles and common captivities, help us by telling us how you permanently freed your mind from entertaining or dwelling on the evil thoughts that leads to sins.
BELIEVE IN THE ONENESS OF GOD (MONOTHEISM) AND KEEP HIS COMMANDMENTS AND BE SAVED.

By heeding to the word of God.you have to study the word of God and learn to do what it says and not what you feel like. The more wordful you are,the more Godly you are.Crave to live a holy lifestyle, give up friends that are not going in your direction(holy living) and make friends with ppletou know are conciously striving to live Holy.Get anoited books on holiness (look for boos written by Bishop Oydepo)and set out to seek the face of God for the power to live your life to please him.You will have the desired result.njoi grace.

1 thesss. 5:23

Man is a SPIRIT living in a BODY and having a SOUL. The real person is the spirit and it is made in God's likeness and blamelessly holy.

The body however is corrupted by sin and is the major reason why many Christians live in unholiness.

To live holy you must exalt your spirit above your body. You must be more spiritual by studying your Bible, praying in tongues and fasting.

Constant Bible study feeds and energizes the spirit to live above the flesh. Your level of holiness cannot exceed your level of Bible study.

How to live a Holy life isnt the same thing as living a perfect life. Till we "grow to the nature of Christ", we strive towards that perfection.

The fact that we fail God occasionally does not mean we have become unholy.

The OP has explained Holiness so well that nothing much can be added to it. However, for the sake of those who might still have some questions, I will reiterate one or two points:

There are two aspects of Holiness:
1. Imputed Holiness:
This happens when a person becomes Born Again. He is sealed with the Holy Spirit and Separated to God (to those who believe on His name He gave the power to be Gods Sons). They become the Lords therefore Holy.

2. Conduct Holiness:
This is when a person who's sins are forgiven, Born Again, and Separated unto God choose to live a life worthy of his calling through living a life of love and purity.

Its like, you have been appointed as an Ambassador of Nigeria to Ghana therefore, you live a life expected of an Ambassador. You can't dress any how, eat anywhere, go anywhere, speak any how etc because you do not represent yourself but your country.

So also with you as one called as a Royal Ambassador, Priest and King of the Host High; walking according to the conduct of the office you represent is Holiness.

However, whenever you see a person who claim that he/she is Born Again BUT is not living according to the conduct of his "office", he may be an impostor: Not Born Again. If any man be in Christ, he is a new creature who doesn't enjoy "the worlds standard" of living because he belongs to the heavenly kingdom.

Let's live the life we profess in Christ.

In fact I'm blessed by this. I've been asking a question in this regard but not gotten a satisfactory answer. I believe you can help me...

My question... Is it right for a single sister to be living with a man and she goes to church, is a worker, prays and scabashes all the time but is not bothered about living with a boyfriend..? And they are fornicating back to back?
Would you say God permits such under grace? Since the op said we can not fall out of grace if we mess up.

I still asked this question in church today but the bro was trying to pamper the matter. So shed light on this.

Secondly... There is this man and woman who have been living together but the man never did anything on her head. they are living together and already finished bearing children and are staunch workers in church for years now. Does God also permit certain people to be living in perpetual sin under grace? And still makes them prosper in it?

I need to know. Cos its a different thing to fall and rise up with a determination not to fall and falling and remaining there.

Thanks for your question. By God's grace, I will answer the two.

Jewessgratitude:

My question... Is it right for a single sister to be living with a man and she goes to church, is a worker, prays and scabashes all the time but is not bothered about living with a boyfriend..? And they are fornicating back to back?
Would you say God permits such under grace? Since the op said we can not fall out of grace if we mess up.
As long as they are unmarried or have set a wedding day for a date in the near future, it is a SIN of Fornication. And this displeases God. The remedy for those who are engaged and having sexual feelings for each other is to Marry.
1Cor 7:9:
"But if they cannot contain, let them marry: for it is better to marry than to burn."

Look at this from a normal family tradition view:
You know that your parent will not condone you bringing a man into your room to have sex with you (in your father's house). The question is knowing that, would you still go ahead to invite him sleep over for sex?

The answer you'll give depend on whether you are your Father's true Daughter or you are a Tenant in his house. How much more God of whose our Body is His Temple!?

If you are indeed a daughter of God, you wouldn't want to dishonour Him in such a manner.

Solution:
Tell your fiance/Boyfriend, if he doesn't see anything wrong with abstinence till marriage, he is not a husband material.

The spiritual implication of illegal sex is that you become partakers of demons in his family house (you of cause gave them access into you).

If you take the second option, it may mean that you only recited the sinners prayers without getting saved in the first place. Anyone who is truely born again is a NEW creation and old things have passed away.

Sex doesn't make a man marry you. It only make you as a lady emotionally dependent on him. It usually doesn't make the man emotionally dependent how ever, he feels he has conquered and may wish for another challenge.

Not all who say the sinners prayers are born again except those who DO the will of the Father.

Still willing to answer more questions.

Secondly... Sometimes, marriage isn't about church or court formalities but on these two pillars
1. The conscensus of the two parties: are the living together as husband and wife OR Boyfriend and Girlfriend?!?
2. Does their society know them as Married or not yet married?!?

In this case, when either of them has committed sexual relations with a third party, it isn't called fornication but Adultery.

This doesn't mean that either the courts nor the church nor the traditional institution recognise them. But before God, the cannot just divorce each other for spiritually, they are married.

However, it is good to fulfill all Righteousness and do what the societal laws dictate.

I hope I've answered your questions as God recognises even the traditional worshippers wedding rights

Lamasta:
Stop Fornicating if You still single

Stop committing adultery if married

Stop cheating or defrauding other people to amass wealth remember that the blessings of God maketh rich without adding sorrows.

Love your neighbour as You love yourself.

Stop pulling other people down to gain relevance.

Stop living a hypocritical or double standard life.

And most importantly gird your heart with all diligence cos out of it are the issues of life Prov 4:23.

Ask God to forgive all your sins and cleanse You of all unholy life you have been living previously...

Ask God through the Holy Spirit to come and take charge of your life cos You can't do it alone...

And remember by strength shall no man prevail...

When You make God the standard of your life and his word your guidance then You are on the right track of a holy living shalom...
Thanks

For me the way to live a holy life is to imagine that Jesus Christ is standing close to you in every where you find yourself.... that way the fear of him will make you do the right thing because that is what has been keeping me going since i gave my life to Christ and i believe if you try it,it must surely work for you.happy brethren.
