Quality products are always expensive. Can you compare the price of itel to that of iPhone?

Op, please note that marriage list differs from family/ town/village to others and there is no uniform list for all igbo. You need to inform us the exact village or town list you posted.

Igbos hate poverty, but meanwhile those lists will not prevent any serious suitor from getting married, negotiations are allowed and you can make promises to settle the list in the future when you get the resources and it's allowed.
Some parents can ask you to cut down on items put there for them and just settle the 'Umunna' which is the community groups, and their demand is basically beer and palmwine, yams and a goat etc.

Just like Fulanis who use whips to ensure that you are man enough, Igbos use the list to test your capacity to take care of their daughters and it's not cast in stone.
Which kind nonsense test. The money used to buy all those rubbish, if you invest it wisely in 10 to 15yrs time the family from that marriage will never be poor for life. So tell me how will the man take care of their daughter if they rob him of all his life savings in the name of marriage list.
This useless Igbo long marriage list has outlived it's usefulness and should be done away with completely. That list is just used to send their so called beloved daughter and the husband back to square one in poverty

1. Fonts are different.
2. Igbo language titles first page, English language titles second page.
3. Folding pattern of both papers don't match.
4. The costs are itemized on the first page, but not on the second page.
5. Naira signs used in first page is absent on the second page.

Now, let's focus well on the second page: The Bride Price is included as part of 'Mother's Items'... Since when did mothers become actively involved in discussing bride price of their daughters??

VERDICT: Your guess is as good as mine.

Outrageous but I'm in support.

Marriage isn't for dudes as the op has said, marriages are for men. Capable men.

I've no issue providing those items and even more provided the money is available and the love is there.

The big issue is after everything she doesn't turn out to be of another character/personality completely different from the courtship period.

However parents should ensure their daughters are raised well and very much up to standard (culturally and behaviour-ally)

Nb.
This may be far from the prenups agreement some wealthy westerner do but in a way quite similar as it ensures a lot of things that's destroying the marriage institutions.

If every tribes in Nigeria are doing this, there would be respect for married women folk as if will greatly put an halt to all those out of wedlock marriages were the lady is abused and or periodically subjected to maltreatment as the hubby believes afterall her bride price isn't paid for.

Notice how many married igbo women in are taken care of, I'm not saying all of them, I believe most. Even if the husband get indulge in extra-marital affairs, he never downgrades or subject his wife to unfairness. By the way I'm a big hater of extramarital activities.

nb: There is an existing and particular template or format by which these list are written. But an ignorant and illogical groom can be exploited... In some communities, the igwe will even provide his list as well. Disregarding conventional style... This appears to be a goldmine for kinsmen and families... like it's some poverty alleviation program.

as for the mothers list... there is what we call UMU ADA in the igbo traditional marriage scheme of things.

Some tribal bigots on this thread always strive to bring rancour where none existed. I've seen comments mudslinging the Yoruba tribe especially. This is not the intention of the OP. Yoruba girls are by no means cheap. My husband surrendered 60 tubers of yam, 60 pieces of kolanut, a box of clothes, monies for all kinda family groups as stated in the list, amongstt other things to marry me. Many Yoruba families are like that too. Stick it out of your heads the impression that some girls are cheap. That's a myopic way of reasoning. I'm friends with many Ibo girls, south-south even, trust me they're not better than Yoruba girls.

If we have our young people reasoning along the divides of ethnicity and tribalism, then the hope of the emerging generation ever leading the country is nothing but castles in the air.

What form of generalisation is this @OP,is that the list for every town in igboland, every town has their own list in Igbo land and this list are often negotiable but just remember that you are going to marry someone's daughter and they ain't giving her out to you for free.these stuffs are tradition and should be respected.it disgusts me that every given time y'all will come together to be badmouthing Igbos as regards to this list of a thing.if a lady you want to marry ain't worth the bride price that her tradition requires then you can leave rather than ridiculing her tradition on the internet, for me it is so petty and immature.
