Super Eagles coach: Reasons why NFF settled for ex-Barcelona man Emmanuel Amunike revealed The former Nigeria international will reportedly be announced as the next head coach of the national team in the coming days 1980 Africa Cup of Nations winner Segun Odegbami has provided reasons why the Nigeria Football Federation has seemingly decided on appointing Emmanuel Amunike as the head coach of the Super Eagles, Soccernet.ng reports. After screening dozens of applications from foreign and indigenous coaches over the past few weeks, the NFF has reportedly selected Amunike as the successor to Jose Peseiro. Odegbami believes the NFF preferred another European coach to take over the national team to further the alleged financial racketeering in the exercise. However, the Shooting Stars icon is convinced that the scarcity of funds in the coffers of the NFF forced the football body to settle for a Nigerian coach – a cheaper alternative. “One thing is clear, except amongst some academic hard-line critics of Nigerian coaches, there appears to be little appetite for another half-baked foreign coach in Nigeria,” Odegbami wrote in his column in the Vanguard. “The rackets attached to the hiring of foreign coaches may not find accommodation in a beleaguered government trying to reduce corruption in the system. “The NFF does not have the funds, and the federal government will not accommodate the humongous fees of foreign coaches in the present dispensation. “So, it will be a Nigerian as next manager of the Super Eagles.” It has been seven weeks since Jose Peseiro exited his role as the Super Eagles head coach, leaving the position vacant. If the NFF knew it only had the resources to hire a local coach, why has it taken such a long time to identify the right candidate among the many former internationals who applied for the job? Odegbami concedes that while most Nigerians in the media space wanted Emmanuel Amunike, other powerful interests were pulling the strings behind the screens. The two-time AFCON top goal scorer, however, warns Amunike to be ready to convince skeptics of his readiness for the job when his appointment becomes official. “There is a lot of politicking ongoing,” Odegbami continued. “Nigerian coaches appear not to tick all the boxes of requirements, not eliciting the confidence of several officials of the NFF with vested interest in particular aspirants. “As things stand, however, a decision has to be taken now. “Most fingers point in the direction of a former international player. “He appears to be the preferred choice of most Nigerians in the media, particularly the social media. “I will not be surprised if Emmanuel Amuneke gets the final nod to lead the team. It will become a huge task to dispel the serious reservations about his choice by those familiar with his antecedents when he was in one of the junior teams.” Amunike left mixed antecedents when handling the Nigerian underaged teams. The former Barcelona winger led the Golden Eaglets to loft the FIFA U-17 World Cup while nurturing talented kids like Victor Osimhen and Samuel Chukwueze. However, he was in charge of the Flying Eagles when the team failed to qualify for the U20 AFCON in 2017. |

EXCLUSIVE: Former Guardiola’s Assistant, Amuneke Battle For Super Eagles’ Coaching Job Former Pep Guardiola’s assistant, Domenec Torrent and Emmanuel Amuneke are battling for the Super Eagles coaching job. Ezoic The two coaches, Completesports.com learnt from a reliable source are the leading contenders for the job. “Torrent is the number one candidate among the foreign coaches, who applied for the job,”the source told Complete sports.com. “He has a rich CV and experience which makes him suitable for the coaching job. “The man will get the job if the NFF decide to go for a foreign coach. “Amuneke is the obvious choice among the local coaches. If the final decision is to go for a Nigerian, then, he will get the nod” Torrent was once an assistant to Guardiola at Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Manchester City. He has also managed New York City FC, Flamengo and Galatasaray. Amuneke is one of the popular candidates for the job. The former winger coached the Nigeria U-17 team, Golden Eaglets to win the World Cup in 2015. The 53-year-old also once managed the Tanzanian national team. Sports / Top 7: Early Challengers To Victor Osimhen’s CAF Player Of The Year Crown by robosky02(m): 6:06pm On Apr 17 |
Top 7: Early challengers to Victor Osimhen’s CAF Player of the Year crown – Boniface in, Mahrez out In December, Victor Osimhen became the first Nigerian in 24 years to be named the best player on the continent when he won the CAF Player of the Year, Soccernet.ng reports. It would be difficult for the Napoli man to retain that prestigious honour in 2024, considering the large pool of outstanding talents aiming for the highest recognition on the continent. With Napoli’s struggles rubbing off on Osimhen badly, the Nigerian could relinquish the award at the end of the year. Mo Salah The biggest challenger to Osimhen’s crown will be Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah. Salah had a terrible outing at the AFCON, but he has been excellent for Liverpool. The 31-year-old is the highest-scoring African in the Premier League and has been leading Liverpool’s charge to reclaim the league title. Should he help the Reds to glory, it will be difficult for anyone to beat him to the POTY, especially with his old nemesis – Riyad Mahrez and Sadio Mane – away in Saudi Arabia preparing for retirement. Victor Boniface Then there is Victor Boniface. In Boniface’s first year in Germany, he helped Bayer Leverkusen win the Bundesliga title for the first time in the club’s history. The 23-year-old has also impressed in the UEFA Europa League, and he could be a top challenger for the POTY should Bayer Leverkusen win the tournament. And with the DFB Pokal Bayer’s to lose, a treble will likely seal Boniface’s fate as the next King of the Continent. Serhou Guirassy Vfb Stuttgart forward Serhou Guirassy has also put his name in the hat following his fine form in Germany this term. Guirassy is the highest-scoring African in the Bundesliga, with only Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane netting more. The 28-year-old could not replicate his excellent club form at the AFCON for Guinea as he was not completely fit. However, he could become Osimhen’s top challenger if he bangs in the goals that boost Guinea’s chances of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Youssef En-Nesyri There is no forgetting Morocco’s World Cup star, Youssef En-Nesyri. The highest-scoring African in La Liga this season, En-Nesyri can be proud of some of his performances for Sevilla. His return of 15 goals and two assists in 34 games across all competitions is impressive, but his POTY chances are low, as Sevilla have no chance of winning any title this term. En-Nesyri also scored a goal at the AFCON, but Morocco failed to shine in Cote d’Ivoire, further hampering his hopes for the best player award. Achraf Hakimi En-Nesyri’s compatriot Achraf Hakimi has a better chance of beating Osimhen to the award. Despite the disappointing outing at the AFCON, Hakimi is flying high on the wings of Paris Saint-Germain. The Parisians are through to the semifinals of the Champions League after beating Barcelona, with Hakimi playing a key role. PSG are also on course to retain their French Ligue 1 title, as they boast a healthy lead over second-placed Brest. Should Hakimi win these two titles, he will certainly jump to the front of the queue in the race for the POTY. Mohammed Kudus Ghana international Mohammed Kudus will also be a top contender for the award. Kudus arrived in West Ham from Ajax Amsterdam last summer and has been a great addition for the Hammers. The 23-year-old has contributed seven goals and four assists in 28 Premier League games. More than the goals, though, it is Kudus’s tricks, dribbles, and quick feet that have wowed many in England. He shone in a poor Ghana team that crashed out of the 2023 AFCON in the group stage, but he will need to do more during the World Cup qualifiers to convince that he merits the crown of the continent’s best. Ademola Lookman Alongside William Troost-Ekong and Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman was Nigeria’s finest player at the AFCON in Cote d’Ivoire. Lookman was Nigeria’s joint-top goalscorer at that tournament. The former Leicester City winger is also a key player for Atalanta, with the club performing excellently in the Europa League. Lookman could see his value rise through the roof should Atalanta win that tournament, pushing him forward as one of the top contenders for the POTY. What are Osimhen’s POTY chances? The reigning African best will not relinquish his crown without giving a fight. While Napoli are set to finish the campaign trophy-less, Osimhen already has an AFCON silver medal to show for his troubles this season. With several 2026 World Cup and 2025 AFCON qualifying matches slated for this year, Osimhen has enough chances to excel for the Super Eagles. The 25-year-old will likely leave Napoli for one of Europe’s biggest clubs this summer, and his exploits in the second half of the season for his new club could also brighten his POTY. Former Somali national team manager Said Abdi Haibeh is convinced it will be foolhardy to rule Osimhen out of the race for the 2024 POTY. “He still has time to hit a good form before the crown is given at the end of the year, but lists of other brilliant African footballers are also aiming to win the crown at the end of the year,” Haibeh told Flashscore. “In addition to Osimhen being a natural goalscorer, his contribution will be crucial for Nigeria’s qualification for the World Cup 2026.” NB: Who is the greatest threat to Victor Osimhen’s crown? EXCLUSIVE: Finidi out of race for new Super Eagles coach Despite the public endorsement by former NFF president Amaju Pinnick, Finidi George is out of the reckoning for the head coach of the Super Eagles. The odds are heavily stacked against the Enyimba coach. A top official told SCORENigeria that besides not processing the requisite coaching badges, Finidi did not pass his audition after he was handed temporary charge for the friendlies against Ghana and Mali in Morocco last month. “He does not have UEFA Pro license, what he has is UEFA A license,” the official began. “His man-management during the matches in Morocco left a lot to be desired after he fell out with several of the players. “He was also found wanting as per his decisions particularly the game against Mali when he made only two substitutions even with so many players on the bench, who did not play against Ghana.” It will be recalled that several state FA chairmen carpeted Finidi as Eagles substantive coach after the friendlies in Morocco, where the Super Eagles beat Ghana 2-1 before they lost 2-0 to Mali. The NFF technical committee shortlisted the former Ajax winger, who assisted Jose Peseiro at the recent 2023 AFCON, for further consideration by the Executive Committee. The committee will meet again Tuesday in Abuja to deliberate on the appointment of a new coach for the Super Eagles. The following are the reason Victor Osimhen should sign for PSG and not Chelsea 1 At PSG he is sure of champions league action. But Chelsea is not sure of European action. 2 At PSG he is almost sure of winning the league with some effort. But Chelsea is not in form and has Man City, Liverpool, Arsenal and Man United to contend with. 3. Going to PSG he will be making his own decisions. But at Chelsea it will be the decision of Mikel Obi and Drogba. Don't forget Ronaldo regretted not making his own decision but went to United to please Alex Farguson 4. Going to PSG he will maintain his class as a top player but at Chelsea a club without champions league action will take him off the radar when top player as rated. 5 At PSG he can fight for Balon For, Africn Footballer of the year and Highest goal scorer because he will be playing with other stars but Chelsea is not at the same level Drogba and Mikel left it 6. Do you know if Osimhen goes to PSG 2024/5 season He will win the world cup in 2026 Ronaldinho went to PSG in 2001 he won world cup 2002 Mbappe went to PSG 2017 he won the world cup 2018 Messi went to PSG in 2021 he won the world cup 2022 7 therefore if Osimhen goes to PSG Nigeria can win the world cup in 2026 for Africa

Osimhen move to PSG sealed with €13m annual salary French Ligue 1 powerhouse Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) have reportedly secured a deal to sign Napoli striker Victor Osimhen in the upcoming summer transfer window, according to Italian media outlet Il Mattino. PSG‘s interest in the Nigerian striker stems from their need to find a replacement for the departing Kylian Mbappe, who is set to join Real Madrid. An agreement has been reached with Osimhen, signalling his imminent move to Parc des Princes. The 25-year-old, having signed a new contract with Napoli in December that includes a €130 million release clause, is poised to bid farewell to the Italian club at the end of the current season. Reports indicate that PSG has agreed to meet this hefty release clause to secure Osimhen’s services. “Victor Osimhen and Napoli will part ways at the end of the current season, with the player set to be sold upon payment of the €130 million release clause,” as quoted by Area Napoli. PSG emerges as the frontrunner for Osimhen’s signature, with Thursday’s edition of Il Mattino detailing the significant offer made to the Nigerian striker. “It’s farewell to Italy. Osimhen’s final weeks in Italy are upon us, with PSG very close to securing his services. “The agreement is almost finalized, with concrete steps taken between Osimhen, his representatives, and PSG’s Qatari owners. “Paris stands as Osimhen’s top choice, and PSG is eager to conclude the deal swiftly.” According to Il Mattino, Osimhen’s move to PSG will see him earn a staggering €13 million annually over a four-year contract, with additional control over his image rights. “The Nigerian sensation is set to earn over €13million per year for the next four years. He will manage his image rights independently and is expected to sign lucrative sponsorship deals with Qatari partners associated with President Al-Khelaifi’s club. “Any potential last-minute efforts from Premier League clubs to hijack the deal seem unlikely to derail PSG’s plans at this stage.” Lalasticlala mynd44 mukina2 https://businessday.ng/sports/article/osimhen-move-to-psg-sealed-with-e13m-annual-salary/
