i will recommend u connect them by configuring your ip address such that all the systems will be on the same network. This is what i use and it's more reliable and efficient than the work group approach.

Make sure they are on the same network(using your ip) and assign each system its ip addr.

this is a very good one just like (VLAN Concept) but as kayodus said thats if he knows how to do it.
