Ten rules of choosing a wedding planner In Nigeria

Just before you decide on the wedding planner you want to choose for your wedding, an expert in handling weddings and who will be instrumental in making sure goes according to your expectations and dreams .

This list informs you in detail, the ten characteristics to look out for in your wedding planner before you choose her ;

1. Easy to contact and readily accessible:

She must be able to return calls/reply messages/send mails promptly , responsive to your needs and have contact details that she can be easily reached in case she is not available. It does not make sense for an event planner to be responding to message weeks after an inquiry has been sent.

A professional wedding planner should have Active phone number/email address/ social media pages and a website .

2. Well organised and detailed :

She must be coordinated, have well laid out plans, alternate or backup plans in case the first option plans fails. She must be capable of paying attention to details, budgets, designs, costs, images, styles, color codes, . The little details make up the most important parts of the events . So every tiny, little point counts including the color of the serviettes.

Forget an event planner who is prone to distractions, loses focus easily, can not keep track of orders, unable to control or handle difficult situations, not calm or seem to have a control of her emotions.

3. She Can Multitask:

She should be creative, innovative, be flexible and can take on different roles as deemed appropriate.

Different situations calls for different approaches, various problems require various pragmatic solutions, Surprisingly there are wedding planners who have been known to act as usher/waiter/caterer/makeup artists/ Personal assistant/shopper/ hair stylist/ photographer/ gift wrapper/Dj/social media manager as the occasion demands for it.

Not necessarily that a wedding planner should have all these skills or be professionally trained in them. However she must be ready and willing to learn to become equipped for roles she must take on in order for the event to go on smoothly and avoid disappointments.

4. Has good taste and style :

A good wedding planner should have acquired taste and style for good things, she is a refection of what your wedding will be like. Although the wedding is about you, but your wedding planner should be up to date on the latest trends in wedding themes, styles, designs, decorations, know the most compatible types of weddings suited to her clients' purposes.

It is a common belief that wedding planners are perfectionists, however a wedding planner should also have a fun side , weddings are meant to be funny, classy, lovely and exquisite with each guest and the couple having good memories of the day.

A good wedding planner makes a well planned wedding look flawless, each event seamlessly flowing into another without no one noticing how much is going on behind the scenes in order to achieve such perfection.

5. Has a great sphere of Influence:

A professional wedding planer worth her salt understands that the wedding /event industry thrives on building a connection of the right contacts, networking with other wedding planers, wedding and reception venues , wedding suppliers, wedding vendors and event professionals . The need for creating and maintaining relationships with other wedding practitioners is not only for exposure , learning and keeping up with wedding trends but it is also to get better discounts and deals for clients .

It is advisable to beware of wedding planers who insist on their own vendors just because for the kickbacks they will get , you must also be convinced of the vendors they will be recommending and that they are qualified for the job. However , getting a wedding planner to handle the sourcing of vendors is easier and cheaper on the long run , she can help you secure great and better deals, arrange for refunds in case of disappointment, no show up or poor service delivery.

6. Well balanced , Has a listening hear and understanding :

She must not be imposing or commanding, she has a listening ear, listens to all sides carefully before making an informed decision, be attuned to her clients' needs, she can advice, suggest and also recommend but allows you freedom of choice and a final say in all decisions taken.

7. Good negotiation skills :

In choosing your wedding planner, choose a person who has good communication skills, can calm frayed nerves, acts as a go between between vendors and clients, parents , family members, friends, negotiate for good prices, get good deals and effectively manage her resources to achieve great results.

Your wedding planner must understand all the legalities involved in getting married in Nigeria, can advise you on getting a marriage license, prepare contracts with vendors and wedding suppliers , negotiate agreements , arrange security and plan well ahead for any eventuality .

8. Financially prudent :

A skilled wedding planner should be able to work according to budget , not o be extravagant , get carried away with high dreams, her feet must be firmly planted on the ground, know the prevalent market prices, service cost . She must be able to prepare budgets, cost analysis for events and stick with it . Her goal should be not to make maximum profit, but to give the best services to the client without going overboard, give remunerations for workers according to event industry rates and standards , ensure vendors are well paid for their services without anyone feeling shortchanged , cheated or duped.

9 . Comes highly recommended or referred by a trusted source;

In case you are still confused on which wedding planner to settle for, ask for recommendations from trusted sources , better still ask the potential wedding planner to show her previous works (catalogs, social media pages, picture albums, videos ) , give referrals (previous clients or colleagues) that you can call or contact, ask to be invited to her next events /jobs , so you can see how she and her team handle live events .

Typically , friends and family members can be biased as to which wedding planner they will recommend to you, so ask from those who you will give you a professional opinion.

10. Trust your Instincts :

Most importantly, trust your heart, wedding planning is a huge responsibility, it comes with the expectation of a high level of trust and working together, so it is of good advantage to hire a wedding planner you feel comfortable working within relating to and trust to handle your fiances and your special day . There must be a connection and a common purpose of making sure your wedding urns out right and perfect.

Note :

A wedding planner is not gender specific role, a male or female who are professionally trained are suitable for the position, but for the purpose of this post. I have used "She" , it can also be a "He" .

Top 3 drinks are most effective in reducing fat in the stomach/belly region, their efficiency have been overlooked for so long, but they truly work wonders.

1. Apple cider Vinegar: The first time I tried Apple cider Vinegar, I felt like my Tummy was on fire. A word of caution, take cider vinegar in small doses or dilute with water except you have a cast iron stomach. trust me, I have been there. It burns right through the tummy, like its lighting a fire akong its path.

2. Lemon juice; Lime is also a good substitute. Best mixed with honey and cinnamon. The leomn juice also works fat reduction wonders.

3. Ginger and Garlic: This drink mix is the father of all, ginger and garlic ease the tummy, it helps the liver to process all waste products and , breaking them out and the bad toxins / fats are excreted out.

Fashion / Ugly Beauty: 7 Sad Truths About The African/ Nigerian Beauty Industry by typearls(f): 2:33am On Oct 21, 2016
Wait, before you buy your next lipstick, hair spray, deodorant, perfumes, makeup, body lotion, lightening creams, toning soaps, foundation, blusher or powder. You need to read this. Contrary to popular opinion, do you know that many of these products contain carcinogens and toxic substances which are harmful and dangerous to one's health. Here are some truths about one of the leading industries in Africa, beauty and personal care, currently generating billions of Naira in revenue.

1. Beauty and body care products are a primary source of human exposure to unhealthy radiation and harmful chemicals.

2. Many beauty products sold n the shelf are expired or almost expiring, and there is really no way to know as many importers change or remove the expiry dates .

3. Most personal care products sold are unregulated , Nafdac (Nigerian food and drug administration control) is trying to sanitize the health and beauty industry by asking importers and local manufacturers have their products tested before being sold to the public, but many companies still bypass this process . unfortunately, unsafe products are difficult to recall once in the market.

4. Higher priced beauty products does not mean higher quality, ironically the not-so- discerning public choose to buy cosmetics, makeup products that are expensive, way out of budget with the erroneous belief that they do have more benefits than others. But this is not always the case, it is a mater of which brands are are more effective in marketing and influencing public opinions. A beauty lover should be knowledgeable about what products are suitable for her and not choose a product based on adverts in media, catalogs or hear says. Professional makeup artists, cosmetologists are in the best position to educate their clients about which products to use , and not necessarily because they want to sell more.

5. The ingredients contain in some cosmetics and beauty essentials are harmful substances, a consumer must always check the label of any product he/she is buying , to ensure it does not cause any allergic reactions, uneven skin tones, or in extreme cases swelling and breakouts on skin. Even in some products that are acclaimed as natural beauty products, one will find that they are not so natural after all, it is a marketing gimmick to brain wash and coerce customers to buy the products.

6. The sad truth is that many beauty products found in stores, markets and online today contain toxins which are not revealed on the label, so consumer wont even know when they check for it. These toxins are potentially harmful, can cause dizziness, affect pregnancy and have tong term side effects.

7. Multinational brands engage famous models, actresses, actors, artistes, makeup artists and celebrities to endorse their brands. Do not take their word for it, just because they say so does not necessarily mean the brands are safe. Do your own findings and revelations, ask previous users of products or seek expert opinion.

I have always been an advocate of natural, organic products and if you are one of those who are highly sensitive to chemical ingredients used in making these beauty products, you can also learn to make your own beauty/personal care care products or buy from a reliable source. Then, you are sure of what is in a product and you would have protected yourself from falling a victim to unscrupulous companies who are all out to make money without a care for consumers's health and safety.

Finally, I will try to educate you on choosing safer and healthier products on my blog in my own way ,more importantly is that as consumers, we need to be educated and protect ourselves . Also environmental protection or beauty groups can be formed to create awareness and help beauty enthusiasts purchase safer products.

CROTCHET BRAIDS WIG IN SIX EASY STEPS

1. Place both weaving caps onto your foam wig head and pin them into place using your push pins.
You don’t have to use two caps, but doubling up helps support the weight of the hair.

2. Separate your braid or twist hair into strands before you begin constructing your wig. It will help you work faster.

3. Starting near the nape area of the foam head, push the crochet latch hook through 3-5 holes.
4. a strand of the hair through the hook, pulling downward back through the same holes. This will create a loop. Then put your thumb and index finger through the loop, grabbing the lengths of the hair to pull them down through the loop of hair. Make sure the knot part of the loop is underneath the strand to create a smoother base of hair.

5. Continue with crocheting the hair through the weave cap holes until you’ve completed the process and your wig is as full as you like. Try on the wig as you go along to better judge the fullness of the hair. (But by all means, get all the way into Diana Ross mode with the volume.)

6. Once your wig is complete, fluff out the hair by separating the strands. Brush a few to purposely frizz the hair for a more natural textured look. If you’re going for a uniform twist out style, leave the hair as is, but separate strands to cover any netting.
With a crochet wig, you can have the fluffy hair of your dreams any day you choose.

Romance / Use Tinder To Find New Friends, Dates And Potential Spouses by typearls(f): 2:02am On Aug 16, 2016
Tinder is the latest mobile application where it is touted that no matter how unsociable you are, you are bound to find your perfect match. The mobile app uses an individual’s Facebook account to find new connections based on his/her friends, mutual friends, interests and location. Developers have their statistics to back them up, with more than a billion swipes per day, millions of matches made every 24 hours, people liking and super liking themselves. With such statistics, It shouldn’t be difficult to find an exact match, abi? That’s what I thought too but because a guy and I have 300 Mutual friends on Facebook doesn’t mean we will necessarily like each other but the possibilities are limitless, there are so many potential matches to choose from.

After reading Gloria Edozien's review about Tinder on Bella Naija, I was armed with so much enthusiasm, am all for making new friends, so in no time I downloaded Tinder, Installed it but was inconsistent for weeks, All I did was look at myriad of pictures, Never knew there were so much “ fine guys” and “handsome ladies”, as seen from their photos. I check in once a week, just to stay connected. Did you know ? Tinder has been in existence since 2012, am just getting to know about it in 2016, we Nigerians (Or is it me) can be slow to try new things sha.

The app is wonderful; you can look at your fill of pictures to your heart’s content, if you are into that kind of thing. Or you can make better use of it and make new friends, who knows your next business partner, investor, husband, wife , boyfriend, girlfriend might just be 1 mile away from you, and you wont know it except you have Tinder to help you.

To get started on Tinder, just download the app from play store, install , sign in with your Facebook account and you are in the game.Let your personality show forth. Professional, casual, or fun but put up quality photos of you only.

There are icons representing different options. Like, Close, Superlike buttons . Swipe left to like a new match, or swipe down to skip, when your match also likes you, you can start exchanging messages.

Next, dig deeper if you will truly like the kind of person, Tinder does most of its matches based on statistics gathered from facebook, so it is logical to ask for a person’s facebook profile, by looking through his/her posts, pictures, mutual friends, interests, you can gather a wealth of information about such person. If he/she meets your expectations. Then proceed.

Send a message like “ Hello, am Bayo, saw your profile on Tinder,And I like what I see , I believe it will be nice to get to know each other and likely meet if possible”

When you meet someone on Tinder, be open minded , though Tinder is a dating app, but it can also be a luck charm for starting long lasting, strong friendships with individuals of same or opposite sex. Your BFF may just be a swipe away.

Word of caution: Here are safety tips to help you make the most out of Tinder
Be careful in giving away too much personal information, trust your instincts, do so only if you are comfortable with the person.
If you agree to go on a date, let a friend or neighbour be aware of your movement, write down the details, name and number of the person you are going with, so they know who to trace, God Forbid, to prevent any bad occurrence. I have of a lady who got killed by a male friend she met on Tinder, another lady got stranded in Turkey during the coup crisis when she travelled to see her friend from Tinder. I guess that's why Tinder chooses matches close to your location, so you can be close to home.
I will advise you to meet your date in a neutral , public place first like shopping malls, fast food joints, ice cream shops before visiting each other at homes and have extra cash for buying food or paying cab fare, even when the guy is paying, but if the date doesn't go as planned, at least you have a backup plan.
Dont be clingy, if the date doesn't work out as you expected it, don't become possessive, jealous overly attached to one person, there are other millions of matches to choose from.
You can move your chats to Whatsapp or bbm medium for faster response and easier chat, but if the person is not to your taste. Let it end on Tinder. No need giving out phone numbers.
Always be polite in your conversations. Tinder is not for solving world's problems or canvassing votes or market place. Stick to the discussion and not try to offend another by starting an argument or selling goods. Move the discussion on to another platform.
In my Next post, I will be writing on 10 kinds of men and women to avoid on Tinder. I mean when you see these people, just swipe them off.

Romance / How To Use Tinder To Find New Friends, Dates And Potential Spouses by typearls(f): 1:32am On Aug 16, 2016
