A 38-year-old Nigerian national has been arrested with 1.21 kg heroin in India. The man was reported to have been caught on a Mumbai-bound Rajdhani Express at Vadodara railway station, Ahmedabad, India on Wednesday, March 7. The arrest is considered to be one of the biggest hauls of Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in recent times. Iso Akpafit was the notorious cult leader harassing Ukanafun Local Government in the senatorial district then. It was spreading to another local government with some of the IDPs even being threatened. So, I said all was not well in terms of security in the district and that there was need to address the situation. I said that so we can tackle the situation so that election can hold in the district where the governor is assured of almost 500,000 votes. That is true because if the insecurity persisted, there might be no election in the entire senatorial district because it could spread to other local governments. It would mean all the block votes that the governor was assured of, since we are the only district that will not present a candidate in 2019, might be affected. More so, the governor happens to be our in-law. So, if we didn’t take steps to address the insecurity and so other silent discontents, we might be deceived to think we have those votes intact. THE Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has rejected an offer for an out-of-court settlement by a former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Jumoke Akinjide, who was accused of money laundering. Akinjide was charged with former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke (who is said to be at large), a former Senator Ayo Adeseun and a People’s Democratic Party (PDP) stalwart, Chief Olarenwaju Otiti. They were accused of conspiring to directly take possession of N650 million, which they reasonably ought to have known forms part of the proceeds of an unlawful act and without going through a financial institution. Justice Muslim Hassan had adjourned to enable parties conclude the settlement talks after Akinjide’s lawyer Chief Bolaji Ayorinde (SAN) reported that the N650 million had been returned. Yesterday, EFCC’s lawyer Nnaemeka Omenwa, who stood in for Rotimi Oyedepo, said he was instructed to turn down the proposal. “I have instruction to reject the proposal as it’s not in line with the provisions of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA). Based on that, we’re ready to go on with the trial, subject to your Lordship’s overriding convenience,” he said. But defence counsel Ayorinde and Michael Lana (for second defendant) accused Oyedepo of a breach of agreement. The men of the Ogun State Police Command has on Thursday arrested One Mr Babalola Alex, an indegene of Ondo state for having human skull in his possession. The State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the Anti-Robbery squad was able to arrest the suspect with the information provided by a member of the public at Asese area of Ogun state. The informant told the police that he sighted two men afar off has he was in the nearby bush to ease himself. They weren't aware off his presence, so he took his time to see the object they held. Surprisingly, the object which looked more like a human skull was being put in a sack, then he alerted the police. Namibian President Hage Geingob on Thursday fired two cabinet ministers, Pendukeni Iivula-Ithana, the Immigration Minister, and Jerry Ekandjo, the Youth Minister. Geingob informed both Iivula-Ithana and Ekandjo of the dismissal from the cabinet in letters dated Feb. 1. Iivula-Ithana and Ekandjo were some of the ruling Swapo party leaders who challenged Geingob’s slate ahead of the party’s elective congress in 2017. As members of Team Swapo, Iivula-Ithana and Ekandjo teamed up with former Prime Minister Nahas Angula to take on Geingob’s slate. Ekandjo and Angula were challenging Geingob for the party’s presidency, while Iivula-Ithana was vying for the party’s vice presidency. The dismissals came after Geingob had written letters to both Iivula-Ithana and Ekandjo on Dec. 8, 2017, asking them to explain why they should not be fired after a grueling campaign. During the campaign, Ekandjo said Geingob’s leadership as the Swapo acting president was weak saying “that was the reason why the government was weak.’’ Iivula-Ithana accused Geingob of overriding the party’s constitution and causing confusion. In one of the letters seen by Xinhua and addressed to Iivula-Ithana, Geingob said he had used the powers vested in him by the Constitution to relieve them of their duties. He told Iivula-Ithana that the dismissal should not be seen as a “blight on the immense personal sacrifices, as well as the immeasurable contribution you have made in the interest” of Namibia. “These feats are for which the people of Namibia shall always hold you in the highest regard,” Geingob said. Former President Olusegun Obasanjo is now a registered member of the Coalition for Nigeria Movement (CNM), a group called "third force" it has been confirmed that he completed his membership form and handed it over to former Governor of osun state Col. Olagunsoye Oyinlola (Rtd.), who is the National Coordinator of the group on Thursday, 1st of February, 2018. The ceremony was held at the NUJ secretariat, Abeokuta. Obasanjo formerly registering as a member of Coalition for Nigerian Movement The CNM, which was officially launched in Abuja on Wednesday, was the brainchild of Obasanjo, which he disclosed in his recent letter to President Muhammadu Buhari. Parents please take note, Cooking food in aluminium pots, pans or dishes may reduce your kid's Intelligent Quotient (IQ) and performance at school. The findings published in journal Science of the Total Environment, indicate that cadmium is neurotoxic in children and causes kidney damage which is linked to cardiovascular deaths and is carcinogenic.Lead exposure in children is linked to brain damage, mental retardation, lower educational performance and a range of other health effects. According to the study, aluminium cookware are made from scrap metal including auto and computer parts, cans and other industrial debris that poses a serious and previously unrecognised health risk to millions of people."Lead and cadmium exposures from regular use of these pots will significantly reduce IQ and school performance among children, and contribute to millions of deaths due to cardiovascular disease," said lead study author Jeffrey Weidenhamer from Ashland University. The researchers tested samples of aluminium cookware made in 10 developing countries and more than one-third pose a lead exposure hazard.The investigation simulated cooking by boiling acidic solutions in the cookware for two hours and measuring the lead extracted in solution.The cookware also released significant levels of aluminium, arsenic and cadmium.
