A Mexican governor and her senator husband were killed in a helicopter crash in the centre of the country on Monday, Igbere TV has learned.

According to report, Martha Erika Alonso, a senior opposition figure and new governor of the central state of Puebla, died with Rafael Moreno, a senator and the former governor of the same state, when their helicopter came down not far from the state capital of Puebla city, local media reported.



“I said hello to (Moreno) in the Senate just a few days ago. Those of us who had the opportunity to know them are sad and troubled,” Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard said on Twitter, confirming the deaths of the couple.

President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said on Twitter that his government would investigate the accident.

It was unclear if the pilot died or what had caused the crash.

Television images showed the remains of an aircraft in flames, a plume of smoke and people who showed up at what appeared to be the scene.




Alonso, from the centre-right National Action Party (PAN), took office earlier this month after a local election that was hotly contested with Lopez Obrador’s leftist National Regeneration Movement, or MORENA.

An electoral tribunal had to validate the results months after the vote amid accusations of fraud.

Moreno was governor of Puebla between 2011 and 2017 and headed the PAN in the Senate.

Marko Cortes, the head of the PAN, said on Twitter that the party was in mourning.

Benito Nacif, an official at the federal electoral institute, said Puebla’s Congress would have to appoint an interim governor until new elections could be held for a successor to serve out the remainder of Alonso’s term.

A number of Mexican politicians have died in aircraft accidents in the past few years, including federal interior ministers in 2008 and 2011. The latter two were also members of the PAN.

On Saturday, 15th Dec 2018, I left Lagos to Portharcourt. I traveled with Okeyson transport company. The driver was as fast as a lazy pregnant snail.
We were ambushed at Elele in Rivers state. About 10-15 young men, with auto rifles, shotguns, matchets, etc. They let the driver go, took the rest of us into the bush blindfolded. Every night they move us to a different "barrack". We're always been moved; blindfolded, hands tied, legs tied too.
The first night wasn't really a hassle for me as they shared my properties; wears, phones, cash, collected our ATM pins for the money in the accounts.
We were always blindfolded except at nights.

The next day, they advised us to quickly raise money and pay them if not, they were going to sell off our private parts and skulls to ritualists. They contacted this Alhaji (I don't know if it was to scare us, but I heard the man, he had the Fulani accent) but he said he can't come there on a Sunday.

We were made to contact our families on Monday so they can pay our ransoms; N1million. According to them, the Alhaji will come that Monday night, so they gave us till 4pm that Monday to pay, or be sold off in pieces to Alhaji.
I contactes my younger brother, asked him to call Dickson and sha give him the update, he laughed on hearing the amount, his hysterical laugh irked them so deeply they took off the steam by landing more blows on me. Where man pikin keep 2milly?

I percieved the smell of dope, I begged to take a hit, whoever it was obliged, from there we started talking, we'd gist briefly, hit blunt together, he'll even give me water. At other times, I dey collect beating.
That Monday night, they were already having issues among themselves. They complained that their Oga didn't bring the Alhaji, neither is he in the bush with them, that they left them in the bush while the rest have gone to town to flex. I silently prayed.
Tuesday morning, 18th December 2018, the band on my wrist was loose, I called on one of them to come tighten it because if they notice by themselves, na beating go follow as they assume that you trying to escape, but he said he'll be back. That meant he's going somewhere. After a while, we couldn't hear their chatter, it happened that the ones manning us took a stroll.

How three people watching us decided to leave us without anyone watching was something only God could do. At first, I thought it was a trap.
It wasn't difficult untying myself as mine was loose already. I untied the rest of us, Na so we cut out oo. We spent about 25-30mins in the bush trying to find our way out, following the direction from where the sound of speeding vehicles came, till we got to the express road.

Her husband initially declined as soldiers’ wives were known to be housewives. He later accepted for her to continue the business when she told him it was to support him and the family.

After taking a week break at home due to complaints from people that the drink attracted flies, pressure from her clients inspired a Lieutenant Colonel to build her a kiosk to make it more conducive. Her family was later posted out of Enugu to Abeokuta but Mammy continued

posted to while she added snacks that would interest the soldiers’. Interestingly, whenever her family was transferred to another state, she would hand over the business to women who were interested in it but asked that they retain the name.

Mammy registered her business as “Mammy Market” in 1971. By the time her husband retired, the business had grown into a supermarket and a transport business.

When her husband rose to become a military governor, Mammy was still going about her business. She joined him few months later due to pressure from people, leaving the business in the hands of four people.

Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State on Monday presented a budget proposal of N109, 199 billion for the 2019 fiscal year to the State House of Assembly for consideration and passage.

Presenting the 2019 budget proposal tagged: ‘‘Budget of peace, equity and prosperity’’, Gov. Ugwuanyi disclosed that the appropriation bill was 5.44% higher than the 2018 budget of N103, 563 billion.

The governor added that the increase was in keeping with his administration’s promise last year to expand its expenditure vis-à-vis projects and programmes of the state as the economy of the nation improves “to ensure that every citizen and residents of Enugu State will reap the full benefits of the dividends of democracy”.

Gov. Ugwuanyi who stated that his administration has implemented the previous budgets to N85%, explained that “out of the total budget proposal of N109.199 billion, the sum of N65.7 billion, representing 60.17%, is for recurrent expenditure. He noted that “this is higher than the 2018 figure of N60.7 billion by 8.22%.

He disclosed that capital expenditure stood at N43.493 billion representing 39.3% of the budget size, which is also higher by 1.5% than the 2018 figure of 42.846 billion.

The governor revealed that works and infrastructure would gulp the highest amount of N16.5 billion because of the premium the state government placed on infrastructural development of the state.

He maintained that the government intends to complete all ongoing road projects and construct new ones across the 17 local government areas of the state as well as provide other critical infrastructure that will stimulate economic growth and job creation.

Gov. Ugwuanyi added that the health sector was allocated the sum of N2.37 billion, stating that the sector received a boost in its financing to enable his administration fully equip the already completed Enugu State Medical Diagnostic Centre to commence operation in 2019. The governor pointed out that the state government also intends to sustain and improve on the services being provided through free maternal and child healthcare programme.

“We want to ensure that our children, pregnant and nursing mothers do not die from preventable ailments, thus we have set aside the sum total of N2.37 billion to all the ministries, departments and agencies under the health sector in the 2019 fiscal year”.

According to him, agriculture received an allocation of N633.5m to consolidate the efforts of his administration towards commercialization of the sector to achieve food security in the state, while N5.522b went to the education sector to sustain the tempo of government in the ongoing compulsory free education from primary to junior secondary schools; renovation, construction and equipping of schools at all levels, among others.

The governor equally announced that the sum of N742m was budgeted for the expansion of Enugu and Nsukka urban water scheme, boosting of small town water supply project and the state rural supply project and the State Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (ENRUWASA) with the aim of “making potable water available to our people irrespective of whether they live in a rural or urban area”.

…hints plan to fill vacancies in boards of parastatals, establishments

Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State on Friday swore in Mrs. Eucharia Uche Offor and Prince Emeka Mamah as commissioners in his cabinet.

Mrs. Offor, who was the immediate past commissioner for finance, resigned her position to contest for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ticket for Igbo-Etiti/Uzo-Uwani Federal Constituency, while Prince Mamah, who served as the former Special Adviser to ex-Governor Sullivan Chime on Transport, vied for the same ticket in Igbo-Eze North/ Udenu Federal Constituency.

Swearing in the new commissioners, Gov. Ugwuanyi stated that the decision was “to fortify the machinery of government and further enhance good governance and service delivery in Enugu State”.

The governor hinted that in furtherance of the above, “measures will soon be taken to fill all existing vacancies in the composition of the boards of various parastatals and establishments in the state”.

Congratulating the newly sworn in commissioners on their “well deserved appointments”, Gov. Ugwuanyi expressed confidence that they will deploy their wealth of experience and expertise to add value to the government and governance of the state.

Responding, Mrs. Offor, who spoke on their behalf, expressed gratitude to the governor for finding them worthy to serve in his administration and the people of Enugu State, pledging their loyalty and commitment to the advancement of peace and good governance in the state.

Ahead of the commencement of campaigns for the governorship and House of Assembly elections in the country, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Campaign Organization in Enugu State, has called on the people of the state to join the party to observe one week of prayers and fasting, “for peaceful, transparent and violence-free elections in 2019, which Enugu State is known for”.

Briefing newsmen at the Campaign office in Enugu, the Director-General of the Organization, Dr. Charles Egumgbe, disclosed that the praying and fasting exercise will commence on Saturday, December 1 and end on Friday, December 7.

Dr. Egumgbe, who was accompanied by the Secretary of the Campaign Organization, Chief Ikeje Asogwa, stated that the decision was “in keeping with our tradition of entrusting the affairs of the state to the hands of God”.

As an Intelligence specialist and counterterrorism expert, I am passionate about this issue and so sad that politicians are paying lips service to it while some privileged Military Generals are making blood money every day in the name of fighting Boko Haram.
You may continue to insult whoever that criticize your "god" in Aso Rock but I want you to reflect on this.

President Muhammadu Buhari has felicitated with Nigerians and Muslims, at home and abroad, on Eid-El-Maulud, birthday of the Holy Prophet Muhammad.
In a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, Buhari reiterated that “the country is making great progress under the All Progressive Congress (APC)-led federal government in dealing with issues of security, the war against corruption, reform and restructuring of the economy and the provision of needed infrastructure” and added that the country needs the support and prayers of all citizens.
He also asked for prayers for the nation for a peaceful elections in 2019.
Also, Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, urged Nigerians to use the opportunity of the Prophet birthday celebration to show love to one another and imbibe the virtues of perseverance and restraint.
In a message signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Yusuph Olaniyonu, Saraki congratulated the Muslim Ummah on the birthday of the Holy Prophet and said that “the occasion should inspire Nigerians to renew their belief in the Almighty Allah and the country.”
His deputy, Ike Ekweremadu, called for “prayers for peaceful 2019 general election” and charged politicians to “play by the rules and highest democratic ethos.”

The Police Force Criminal Investigations and Intelligence Department, FCIID, yesterday, charged three men before a Federal High Court, Lagos, over alleged cyber crime and impersonating President Muhammadu Buhari and his wife, Aisha.

The accused are Julius Anyawu, alias Musa Mohammed, 48; Kenneth Ezeonu alias Abdul Karim, 45; and George Agu alias Dr Lina Norman, 48.
Police The accused, who were arraigned on 16-count charge bordering on cyber crime, had no legal representative and they all pleaded not guilty to the charges.



After their pleas, the prosecutor, Mr. Benson Asogwa, urged the court to remand the accused in prison and fix a date for trial. Justice Babs Kiewumi, consequently, adjourned the case until January 8, 2019 for trial.
The court, however. ordered that the accused be remanded in prison pending trial.

The prosecution alleged that the accused conspired with others who are now at large to commit the offences on August 8 at 10, Hassan Idowu Street, Aguda, Surulere, Lagos.

They were arrested by CP Dan Okoro, Head of Anti-Fraud Unit in Alagbon, in Lagos.

The crisis in Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly assumed a different dimension, yesterday, as five suspended lawmakers met after the House had adjourned sitting and elected Mr. Nse Ntuen, representing Essien Udim Constituency, as the new Speaker.

A-Ibom Assembly crisis This came on the heels of the declaration of the seats of the lawmakers vacant by the Speaker of the House, Mr. Luke Onofiok. The lawmakers recently defected to All Progressives Congress, APC, from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

The affected lawmakers include Idongesit Ituen, Gabriel Toby, Victor Udofia, Otobong Ndem and Nse Ntuen of Itu, Etim Ekpo/Ika, Ikono, Mkpat Enin, and Essien Udim constituencies respectively.
Luke declared the seats vacant during an emergency sitting which lasted less than one hour on Monday, despite plot by some of the affected legislators. Drawing his strength from Section 109 subsection 1 of the 1999 Constitution, Onofiok declared the seats of the lawmakers vacant which immediately threw the House into a rancorous session.
Angry youths stormed the Assembly Complex in reaction to the development.
The glass entrance door of the House was damaged in the ensuing melee between security agents and the youths, who also chanted solidarity songs to drive home their demands.
Ituen was sacked by a Federal High Court sitting in Uyo last Wednesday. The presiding Judge, Justice F.O. Riman, had subsequently on Thursday served the Speaker an enrolled order conveying the judgment of the Federal High Court of Nigeria restraining him from further recognising Idongesit Ituen as a member of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly.
Efforts by the thugs allegedly hired to disrupt the emergency sitting were foiled as the leadership of the PDP had alerted security agencies in the state early about the planned attack.

The Speaker and other legislators were able to gain access into the Assembly Complex with the assistance of security agents drafted to barricade the area as early as 7:00 am.
As at the time of filing this report there was still a heavy presence of policemen and other security agents at the Complex. The leadership of the PDP in the state had earlier issued a statement raising the alarm over a planned attack.
On its part, the APC has called for calm while admonishing the state government not to throw the state into anarchy ahead of the 2019 general polls. A statement by its Publicity Secretary, Nkereuwem Eyongekere said: ‘’We are watching the ongoing development in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly with great concern.
At the appropriate time, the party will make its position categorically
However the House during the emergency sitting passed a motion urging the state governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel to name either the Akwa Ibom State University or the Ibom Airport after a former governor of the state, Cheif Victor Attah in commemoration of his 80th birthday.

Police and residence of Ugwuaji community clash as residence protest against poor electricity despite using about 500 plots of the community land to build Power Station.

Eye witness narrated that about two persons were hit by stray bullets as police tried to calm the situation. Roads leading to the area are currently blocked due to the chaos.
