Model Secondary School, Nsukka, in Enugu State, on Saturday, emerged the 5th best school in public category for 2019 President's Teachers & Schools Excellence Award (PTSEA) of the Federal Ministry of Education.

The prestigious national award, which was conferred on the school at the Eagle Square, Abuja, by the Minister of State for Education, Hon. Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, was sequel to the general assessment of infrastructure, E-Library, quality teaching & learning in public secondary schools in Nigeria by the Federal Ministry of Education.

The outstanding feat, according to the Executive Chairman of Enugu State Post Primary Schools Management Board (PPSMB), Barr. Nestor Ezeme, who received the award on behalf of the school, was a fallout from various educational interventions by Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi's administration, which ensured the overhaul of all classroom blocks at Model Secondary School, Nsukka, construction of dormitories and dining hall with state-of-the-art facilities”.

Other pivotal interventions, according to him, include “installation of ICT/E-Library through the works department of the Post Primary Schools Management Board (PPSMB) and recruitment and training of quality teachers, leading to excellent performance of the school's JSS3 and SS3 students in junior and senior WAEC, respectively, among others”. Other members of the state government’s delegation include the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Mrs. Nwanneka Onah, Principal of the School, Mr. Ezugwuorie and the Senior Prefect.

A four-storey building under construction at One-day in Agbani road, Enugu South Local Government Area of the State, has collapsed on Wednesday, leaving one person pretty injured.

This is coming barely three weeks after a three-storey building under construction had collapsed at Monarch Avenue in the same Enugu South Council Area of the state capital.
042Report have it that the building was located at Precious Junction by One-day Road, and it had 10 flats with five of the apartments haven already been occupied by tenants, a family of four, and four individuals.

It was gathered that the occupants had noticed a crack on the building on Tuesday morning and four of them left the house leaving some of their property behind, with fear the building might collapse any time.

However at about 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday the building collapsed and one of the occupants who was said to be working on the uncompleted apartments, identified as Simon was injured.

Eyewitnesses told 042report correspondent that the victim who was on the fourth floor when the building caved in, jumped out from the building and allegedly broke his spinal cord.

He was said to have been rushed to the hospital in the neighbourhood by the younger brother of the owner of the building who was said to be living in Lagos State.

The brother of the owner of the house whose name was given as Paul Onyeka was said to be the supervisor of the house.

Residents of the area were said to have attributed the incident to substandard materials and the use of quack engineer’s in the execution of the project.

When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Ebere Amaraizu, confirmed the incident.

Amaraizu, said that investigation had commenced to unravel the cause of the collapse.

PDP youth leader, Uche OkoyeThe National Youth Leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hon SKE Udeh-Okoye has been kidnapped, police said.

According to police spokesman in the state, SP Ebere Amaraizu, Mr. Okoye was visiting his farm in his home, Enugu State, when he was abducted at gunpoint at Agbaogwugwu Junction, Awgu LGA in the state.

According to PREMIUM TIMES, it wasn’t immediately clear whether Mr Okoye’s abductors have contacted his family or law enforcement to make request for ransom. The police are saying little of what they might know of the incident as of late Monday.

“We are on it, but because of the nature of the incident, we would not be able to disclose much details,” Mr Amaraizu said. “He went to his farm and was kidnapped, that should do for now.”

Mr Okoye was elected to lead the PDP youth wing at the party’s national convention in late 2017. He resigned his position as a member of the Enugu State House of Assembly after he was elected youth leader and moved to Abuja.

A unidentified woman’s body has been found this morning stabbed to death in Nchatancha community, Enugu East Local Government.

The deceased woman is suspected to have been murdered in her farm by the unidentified criminals.

Samuel Elias, 25, a final year student of Department of Religion and Culture, University of Nigeria Nsukka, UNN, has allegedly committed suicide by drinking Sniper.

The mother of the deceased, Mrs Kate Elias a staff of the university, told the News agency of Nigeria that the unfortunate incident happened on Monday June 17, around 5.30pm in her house at Justina Eze Street Nsukka.





Elias said: “she came back from work on that fateful day and discovered that the mood of her first child was bad and he was staggering when he came to collect a bottle of coke from the fridge “I followed him immediately to his room and started talking to him but he could not respond and when I looked closely, I discovered that his teeth had tightened up. “As I looked around, I saw an empty sniper bottle; at this point I raised alarm and my other children rushed to the room and we tried to give him red oil but his tightened teeth didn’t allow the oil to enter his mouth,” she said

According to her, we immediately rushed him to Faith Foundation Hospital, Nsukka and were later referred to Bishop Shanahan Hospital, Nsukka, where he eventually died.



The mother of seven said her son could have died of depression, noting that he had been lamenting of his inability to graduate from UNN because of his final year project which had been holding him.

She said also the son had not been happy how his late father’s family had abandoned them since their father died. “I know two things he usually complained, his inability to graduate from UNN since 2016 because of the project that he has not finished as his classmates have all gone for their NYSC. “Also, how his father’s family in Ihechiowa in Arochukwu Local Government of Abia Dtate abandoned them and their mother since their father died. “Whenever he complained of these things, I usually advised him to trust God who is capable of solving every problem. “I do not know why he will go to this extent of committing suicide, I have seven children and he was my first child. “It is still like a dream to me that my first son & first child has died,” she said in tears

Reacting to this incident, Prof. Tagbo Ugwu, HOD, Religion & Culture said somebody called him and told him about the unfortunate incident.

“I received the news with shock and surprise.

“I will find out from his supervisor what is wrong from the project that has stopped him from graduating,” he said.

When contacted the Police public relations officer, Ebere Amarizu confirmed the incident and said police would investigate the circumstances surrounding the death.

“The police is aware of Samuel Elias death, a final year student of the department of Religion and Culture in UNN who committed suicide on Monday by drinking sniper.

“Police will investigate circumstances surrounding the death,” he said.

It would be recalled that barely five weeks after Chukwuemeka Akachi, a 400-level student of Department of English and Literary Studies in UNN ended his own life after taking a bottle of sniper.

A CHIEFTAIN of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Enugu State, Chief Chinedu Eya has warned that the planned downgrading of Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu state will lead to National crisis.



Chief Eya, a former Enugu North senatorial aspirant on the platform of PDP in the just concluded 2019 elections noted that the safety concerns raised by the Minister of State for Aviation, Hadi Sirika such as “dangerous runway, the location of an abattoir and Market at the end of the runway, Bird strikes” and other issues can be taken care of by the FG without resoting to downgrading the Eastern gateway.

The PDP Chieftain further contended that “actions like the planned downgrading of the Only International Airport in the South East is one of the reasons why separatist groups like IPOB and MASSOB are winning millions of Igbos to their quest.”

He further maintained that “Ndigbo need to be shown by the FG that they are in this Nigerian project together with other regions as any effort aimed at downgrading Enugu Airport will further hit up the polity and lead us into crisis.”



“Aside overcrowding of the remaining international gateways in the country, increased security concerns and loss of income to the Nigerian Airport Authorities if the downgrading succeeds, no country anywhere in the world will choose closure or downgrading of its already existing international gateway to rehabilitation, upgrading or reconstruction. It doesn’t make economic sense to me;” Gwiyi Solomon, Chief Eya’s Media Adviser quoted him as saying.

“The Federal government can make efforts to repair and expand the runway to reduce the security risks that the Aviation ministry has lamented about; instead of dangling downgrading of the only international gateway in the entire Eastern Nigeria;” chief Eya said.

The former Senatorial Aspirant further thanked the government of Enugu state in its swift response “by closing down the Emene market and abattoir, at the same time while making efforts to relocate the Business zone near the airport to avert the federal government’s planned action.”

Recall that the Minister of State, Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika had last week during the sixth stakeholders meeting in Lagos disclosed the Federal government’s plan to downgrade the Enugu Airport.

The man was said to have been killed by the mob at Isiagu Ibagwa community in Igboeze South Local Government Area of the state on Monday.



The state’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Ebere Amaraizu, confirmed the development.

Amaraizu said : “Tragedy had allegedly struck at Isiagu Ibagwa community when a son identified as Ifesinachi Ukwueze allegedly murdered his mother identified as Beatrice Ukwueze with a cutlass over a yet to be established issue.

“It was further gathered that the action of Ifesinachi Ukwueze allegedly angered irate mob who descended heavily on him and left him lifeless before the arrival of security operatives,’’ he said

The people of Egede, in Udi local Government Area of Enugu State on Saturday, 19th January 2019 rejected the Deputy Senate President Of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu over what they termed “Insult on their common sense”

The melodrama at Egede started when Senator Ekweremadu came to commission a project which according to the residents of the community he had commissioned in 2014 after repainting the said project.

The information reaching [b]042report[/b]States that the angry community in their protest said they can no longer tolerate this ‘insult’ to their sensibilities by the politicians in their area they elected to represent them.

Chijioke, an indigene of the community who could not hide his anger, berated the DSP Ekweremadu for trying to use them for one of his political gimmicks not minding how they will feel.

“This so called project was commissioned by the same person that came here today in 2014, the substandard borehole worked for only 2days after the elaborate commissioning 5 years ago.



“Over a week ago, they repainted it, and like a dream he is here again for commissioning of the same moribund project, this is a big insult and we’ll not tolerate this to happen”, he said.

“We are not fools, no no no no no, we are not fools…”, shouted a young man who identified himself as Ikenna who joined the other youths of the community to in resisting the attempt by the Deputy Senate President to enter their community.

A lady who pledged anonymity, said she’s happy with what happened today as people are becoming aware and are beginning to stand up in total rejection of fraudulent projects, barefaced lies and propaganda.

The angry community members were seen carrying placards which they used in describing how they feel.
Some of the placards reads, “What happened to our constituency funds for 16 years”, “Ekweremadu we are not fools”, “Say No to Eze Pharaoh”, amongst others.
