As an imo indigene, we like living in denial. Owerri is the worst state capital not just in SE , but entire southern Nigeria. It is an insult to compare a village like Owerri to Onitsha, Awka or Enugu, even Abakaliki of yesterday beats Owerri.

Owerri is not fit to be a state capital, what we have in Owerri is a village of mud tiny dilapidated roads and unplanned settlements.

Owerri as it is today, should be demolished to pave way for a decent development.

I am from imo state but truth be told, OWERRI is the worst state capital in Southern Nigeria. Owerri has the worst roads in Nigeria even worse than Aba. I have lived in Owerri all my life and it is an insult to compare a shithole like Owerri to any state capital out there. All the SE state capitals from Enugu, Awka, Abakaliki, even Asaba are all better than Owerri. Let's stop deceiving ourselves. Owerri should be demolished and rebuilt because the present outlook is not befitting. The aerial view of Owerri below shows a rustic unplanned failed town. This is quite embarrassing.

I am from imo state and to be candid. Onitsha and Awka are in every aspect finer and more developed than Owerri. Awka has lots of flyovers, dual roads including Ekwueme road/EBS boulevard, Esther Obiakor, Zik Avenue and other numerous dual ways in and around Awka Millennium city. The number of dualways Obi did at Harbour layout Onitsha is more than all the roads in Owerri. Owerri is a shithole with lots of bad muddy roads. Owerri has one dual carriage which is Wetheral road that links PH road, others are dilapidated muddy single lane roads. and cheap brothels that hosts prostitutes. Even the economy of Nnewi is bigger than that of Owerri. Then Anambra in general is more developed than and advanced than imo state in all ramifications

But as a state generally, Anambra is very much far ahead of Imo State. Orlu can only compete with Otuocha, Ekwulobia and Ihiala.
Okigwe can compare to Agulu or Okija.
