excondido: though no commercial quantity of fossil fuel have been recorded the last time i checked in the illumeden basin on which sokoto state sits and the vast landmass of mali(goa region), the area possess viable geological requirement for prospective exploration.
For the records, billions of naira had been lost to the search for oil in the north. They assumed that if chad is oil rich, then there is possibility that some would have seeped through to their land, which logically defiles geological reasoning. There is more room for us to look into the geological structure, the basins, sediments. Do they have structure that warrant crude oil accumulation, porosity, permeability of the substructure?

this is nothing but pure and undiluted HOGWASH !!!! what kind of oil can possibly be found in a dry desert? No matter how much you educate these dimwits, they'll always find it difficult to tell the difference between chalk and cheese. a camel will always remain a camel no matter how much you decorate it. SMH. Guess they've stumbled into a pond of some dirty water with gasoline spillage from one careless filling station and mistaken it for oil grin grin grin.

Even though the whole oil in the world is found in the north, "THE NORTH WOULD STILL BE A DEAD ZONE OF POVERTY AND ILLETRACY".

Why not get some education about oil and gas instead of insulting others. Check this link about Nigeria geology http://www.terrapub.co.jp/journals/GJ/pdf/4003/40030227.pdf there is possibility of oil or gas in various basins across Nigeria but issue is how much and how commercial. In fact Mobil drilled her first well in Lagos.

sbeezy8: Southern Nigerians are very DUMB- to think there is only oil inn Delta is quite foolish.

EVERY coastal state has Oil from Lagos - Cross river and Im sure a GOOD amount of Northern states do too.

But common sense

"Why would I SELL my Oil, when I can sell yours?"

Do u even know the meaning of foolishness? That's what u just exhibited now! Retardeen!

Chanchit: Now we would knw how powerful this northerners are, i'm sure only the tithe which is 10% will go to the FG, while the 90% will be shared btw the gov't, emir's and the elites, i jst hope they fine a place in their heart to help their people with 5% of the revenue...
if it is truly in abundance as claim, the derivation formular of 13% will soon change. they always have away of manovering things in their favour.

Now we can agree that Jonathan is Goodluck to us.
This is also the time to find out how the North love themselves.
I think we should split this country anyway.

Na wah o!
This oil that is technically being the root of our laziness, corrupt ways and lack of national progress since it was discovered, is now being found in more and more quantities.

This calls for sober reflection and not celebration.

Based on your skewed logic, the black stuff being drilled and exported from countries such as Libya, Algeria, Saudi, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman and UAE (hint: all of them are desert countries) must therefore be camel urine, and not oil. Isnt it? ...and the natural gas must be camel fart as well. The stuff Niger and Chad are also drilling in commercial quantities must also be sewage run-off and not oil. Brilliant analysis.

Did you actually READ your own post before submitting...no, wait: did you actually THINK before typing the nonsensical stuff above? Your analysis has all the tell-tale signs and consequences of plucking mangoes during geography classes.

And, some of you Nairalanders will never grow out of your bigotry and childish hatred based on ethnic myopism. I am genuinely concerned about people like you, but I cant decide whether to feel sorry for your substantial level of ignorance or the chronic hatred that you have to live with day-in, day out.
