Even as Imo Government converts Rochas Okorocha's university to a part of the state university. We should reduce this tendency to easily show how much we hate our predecessors because it is the major reason behind seat-tight mentality among rulers. |
Gombe State government is to establish a training institute for primary and secondary school teachers, converting the Almajiri school built in 2015 by former President Goodluck Jonathan's administration. The Governor of Gombe, Muhammadu Inuwa Yaya, revealed this during his visit to the abandoned Almajiri school established, in Kwami local government area. According to Yaya, the federal government, spent over N360 million to build the Almajiri school but it did not serve the intended purpose, claiming the federal government did not seek community advice on the establishment and the location of the school. The governor said he visited the headquarters of the Universal Basic Education Commission and sought their co-operation in using the Almajiri school buildings as a training institute for teachers, Voice of Nigeria reports. He added that he would renovate the school for the purpose of improving the teaching profession in the state. The governor added that he noticed Gombe state's students had poor WAEC and NECO results. He attributed this to the lack of professional teachers in both primary and secondary schools, explaining that with the establishment of the institute, the state would overcome these problems. Renovations on the buildings is expected to begin in August. Source |
I am surprised none of you could read this great secret that escaped from Garba Shehu's mouth. He talked of the Boko Haram "we know". So, there is a Boko Haram they know. Maybe these ones operating now are a faction that refused to down their weapons. Recall how Buhari (before 2015) confidently promised to end BH in months if elected. What do you say? The Presidency has insisted that the war against Boko Haram insurgency has been won, despite recent attacks by the insurgents in the North-East. Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr Garba Shehu, said this in a statement on Tuesday. He said, “The position of the Nigerian government is that the Boko Haram terrorism has been degraded and defeated. The real Boko Haram we know is defeated. “What we have now is a mixture of remnants of the Boko Haram, fugitive criminals, and the Islam in Maghreb together with West African terrorists bonding together.” “This is a fall out of the collapse of the Libyan State, and from farther away, of the Islamic State in Iraq, Syria, and Lebanon. They are taking advantage of our porous Sahelian borders,” the presidential aide added. He noted that the nation has witnessed an increase of trans-border crimes and the proliferation of small arms in the Lake Chad Basin area as a result of what he described as ‘these international gangs’. According to Shehu, outrages are common in Niger, Mali, Chad, and Cameroon while Nigeria is a large country covering nearly one million square kilometres. “This is roughly equivalent to the size of France and Germany put together. In addition to our porous borders, in the neighbouring Sahel-Sahara region, a lot of ungoverned areas provide haven for terrorists’ occupation and training. “Without the tremendous efforts of our armed forces and the joint operations by the Nigeria-led Multinational Joint Task Force, MNJTF, formed by the countries of the Lake Chad Basin, this single problem of illegal arms flow would have been much worse,” he said. READ ALSO: 65 Killed In Boko Haram Funeral Attack The President’s spokesman insisted that the Nigerian government under President Muhammadu Buhari has made the country safer than it met it. He said Boko Haram terrorism was active in nearly half the number of states in the country in 2015 when his principal took power. Shehu believes the terrorists controlled a territory the size of Belgium, with a flag and systems of administration and taxation of their own. He added that emirs and chiefs had fled their domains along with hundreds of thousands of ordinary citizens, noting that such was no longer the case now. The presidential aide said, “At present, terrorist activities have been confined to the remote, rural agrarian areas of Borno State and pockets of outrages in Adamawa and Yobe States. “As the situation develops, our fantastic armed forces are changing their tactics. Just recently, they launched ‘Super Camps’. The essence of this is to act proactively and respond quickly to the changing nature of terrorism. “In addition to the additional support the government of Nigeria is receiving from friendly countries across Europe, the United States and the Middle East, the Nigerian government is spending large sums of money in weapons procurement to keep our military in good fighting shape. “While the military arsenal is not something you pay for and get, requiring mostly long-time orders, weapons will come in accordance with the terms of contracts. “This country is expecting the commencement of the delivery of Super Tucano fighter jets, very effective in this kind of warfare, beginning next year from the United States.” Shehu disclosed that the Buhari administration has embarked on an electronic and digital border monitoring scheme to curtail the porosity of the borders. He also said working with the UN agencies, the World Bank, the Islamic Development Bank, donor agencies and friendly countries, the government has started providing solutions to backwardness in development and poverty in the sub-region. According to the President’s spokesman, the very heart of recruitment schemes of the terrorists lies the issue of poverty. He recalled that the present administration inaugurated the Northeast Development Commission a few weeks ago to fast track development and poverty eradication in the affected areas. Shehu insisted that the Buhari administration was strongly encouraged by successes recorded so far by the military and the MNJTF. He said the government was optimistic that the Islamic State in West Africa (ISWA) terrorism be defeated. Source |
The Chief of Staff to the President, Mr Abba Kyari, has appeared as a defence witness at the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal in Abuja. Mr Kyari mounted the witness stand as the third witness when President Muhammadu Buhari opened his defence against the petition of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, at the Tribunal. Mraphel:You are guilty of what you are condemning. Try and be mature. You won't die because of it. Exorcise yourself of every demon of immaturity. You have the willpower to do so. |
I have just read this post on the first page talking about UNN being ranked the 17th best university in Africa (the best in Nigeria) and soon some comments become tribalistic: JubrilBuhari: FuckThaMod: Techsunny:I don't know how many of you who realize how very foolish someone sounds who uses every opportunity to go tribal or sectional. It reveals someone whose horizon is terribly limited. On this note, I am appealing to these people who try to drag Igbos on the mud by making such comments, to desist from doing that. Use your energy more constructively. If you are one of those who easily go tribal, you will acknowledge within yourself that you are a failure offline. You can't be so obsessed with tribal sentiments and eventually succeed in becoming an achiever because the bulk of your energy is being wasted on the wrong things. You use what others achieved to go tribal all because you have nothing of your own to show. I have to say a big congratulation to Yorubas for the maturity they showed on the post cited above (Consider how none of you responded to the tribal jabs throughout the first page). As an Igbo person myself, I will say it aloud and clear that Igbos have not received their fair share in Nigeria. And so are many other tribes. Yet, that's not enough reason to be filled with hate. The easiest way to give your oppressor power over you, is to allow yourself to be filled with hate for him/her because that would be weighing you down spiritually, emotionally, psychologically and otherwise. A word is enough for a wise. The wise ones will take this counsel to heart. But fools will rush to defend themselves. I won't be surprised because, centuries ago, it was already stated clearly: "Do not rebuke fools or they will hate you; rebuke the wise and they will love you" (Proverbs 9 verse eight8). |

This is too much like a movie storyline. |
Although it is highly condemnable for anyone to kill army personnel, let the world take note of this: Many soldiers have been killed in the North-East (many of them from the South), but no northern community was razed. It is clear that a particular part of the country is always getting targeted. Why should you raze down a whole community (killing 1000s of innocent people and destroying their means of livelihood) just because of what a few criminals must have done? And why don't you spread the treatment if indeed you think it's right? This is the second time this is happening in one state that produced the most considerate but most attacked president of Nigeria ever. Why![]() ![]() ![]() |
Why is it that lalasticlala and mynd44 don't push very important posts like this to fp? If they pushed where someone was defending the herdsmen and tens of thousands have read and bought into the idea, it's only just that they also push a post that is comprehensively contesting that position. Let people also read it. After all, this is about our lives as individuals and as a Nation. |

Using animal characters, Walt Disney Pictures has produced a photorealistic animated movie of an animal country called Pride Lands of Africa with its seat of power at a place called 'Pride Rock' (Aso Rock). A British Igbo actor named Chiwetel Ejiofor also starred in the movie. Get more details on this HERE (including Wikipedia support links). Thank you. |

Believe it or not, what you need most in life is real faith in God (This is not exactly about belonging to a religion). If you don't yet know this, you certainly will one day. fAITH IS ALSO WHAT YOU NEED MOST IN THE AFTER-LIFE JOURNEY. So, if you have realized the importance of faith read this short 'Leah Sharibu' talk entitled "See How Serious Faithlessness Is" |

It still beats my imagination how someone who claims to be reasonable would describe the current outrage against the Fulani as 'politically motivated' or 'hate speech' rather than as justified anger. People are being killed and they are crying, and you dare call that 'politically motivated'? May the blood of those killed unjustly by the Fulani terrorists be on your head. |
I have said it before, and I will say it again: 'Political correctness' is 98% hypocrisy. I have just read a post now pushed to the first page of this forum where the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese Matthew Hassan Kukah is strongly cautioning against what he calls anti-Fulani campaign: The Catholic bishop of Sokoto, Matthew Kukah, has warned against blanket demonisation of herdsmen, especially of the Fulani stock, warning that such actions could be preamble to a breakout of violent confrontation against the Fulani.A commenter also mentioned that Professor Pat Utomi has said a similar thing a few days back. Then, you begin to see comments like: 1. I believe we still have so many reasonable Nigerians who are concerned about the ongoing politically motivated hate speech against a particular set of people. This is the time to speak up. We don’t want another 1966 pogrom or Rwandan kind of genocide in our country. This is the time to put our humanity above ethnic sentiments.2. Kukah is making a lot of sense to me. I have noticed lately a consistent, well-orchestrated and deliberate effort of a segment of online users to stereotype and typecast all fulani herdsmen as criminals. This is already assuming a very dangerous dimension and can create some serious problems going by the level of hate the campaign is engendering against herders, especially here in the South. The situation could boil over at any time at this rate if care is not taken.3. Well said..itss getting to a stage where father will murder his son and he will accuse Fulani herdsmenYou can see that Kukah is already swaying many Nigerians to forget the brazen injustice of the Fulani against the rest of Nigerians in a great hurry. Tell me what is more unjust than a tribe getting noted for going into people's homes in their own locality to destroy their means of livelihood and kill them in their numbers? Tell me what is more unjust than members of that tribe in government, using state resources to protect these killers (for example, IPOB became terrorists by talking, while Fulani herdsmen get radio station, N100 billion and free landed property for killing)? Kukah and Utomi, tell me what is more unjust than a particular tribe brazenly intimidating others to part with their landed property in large volumes for absolutely free? Why haven't Kukah and Utomi condemned these brazen injustices as noticeably as we have seen them condemn what they call hate speech against the Fulani? You are condemning hate SPEECH against the Fulani but not hate ACTIONS by the Fulani. This is too hypocritical for any reasonable and conscientious fellow to bear. This is not about tribalism. We have seen the Fulani working consistently against the rest of us over centuries. They have been sacking people from their ancestral homes (ask Hausa, Tiv, Berom, etc); they have been killing people in their droves and more. Those insinuating that people are stereotyping and incriminating the Fulani, I ask you, 'why can't the Fulani stay off other people's concerns so that people would have no ground to accuse them falsely if at all anyone is accusing them falsely? For example, why must the Fulani herders insist on going around with their cattle instead of ranching them as obtained in other countries of the world? This is clearly against the trespass laws which are enshrined in our legal system. Besides, they are using that to trample on our most sacred human right, the right to live. Is Nigeria the only place people eat beef? So, why must we pay with our lives and livelihoods in order to eat beef and keep the Fulani in business? Yet, instead of condemning this highest level of injustice by one tribe against the rest in totally unmitigated and uncompromising terms, people have the gut to talk about hate speech against them, thereby making them feel more right in their unjust ways. Bishop Kukah, there is God oh. By the way, I am a Catholic, lest someone begins to play a religious card. |
