Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, has condemned comments credited to the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Most Rev. Matthew Hassan Kukah and Pastor Tunde Bakare, who claimed that acquisition of private jets by religious leaders diminishes moral voices of the church in the war against corruption and are therefore calling for a revolution in the Church of God.

Speaking in a telephone interview, National Director of Research, Planning and Strategy, Elder Sunday Oibe, urged the Catholic bishop and the former vice presidential candidate of CPC, that if they have anything against the person of Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, they should come out and say so, and not hide under the cloak of the gift of a jet to attack the CAN president.

Oibe, who doubles as the Public Relations Officer of Northern CAN, said he who lives in a glass house should not throw stones.

He said: “If there is any clergyman in the country whose constituency is government, it is Bishop Kukah, who served every government in power in the last decade.

“He thinks people have forgotten in a hurry how he served in Obasanjo’s government and turned round to attack the former president, or his fraternity with the former Governor James Ibori and his Rivers State counterpart, Peter Odili.”

Rubbish. CAN has become politicized. Most of the pentecoscal pastors are frauds. CAN used to be a sacred, apolitical, respected organization until a 'pastor' became head. How do you expect any respect again to CAN when they are now engaging in political blame games. God help us

This CAN, I'm sure does not represent the interest of true Nigerian christians. They are a bunch of church leaders whose interest supercedes those of their teeming followers.

I'm a christian and don't think this Association represents me a bit. Or, what is CAN doing to ensure that the astronomical fees charged by most of these church-owned Varsities is reduced to make average christians have access to tertiary education?

Any christian who thinks this current CAN represents his chequered interest should go back to bed and sleep once more. Iranu!

kukah and bakare are right, things of the world are vanity,, they are suppose to live a simple life, that way we can follow, but they chose to live a life of luxury

CAN isn't doing what it should be doing, but that does not mean there's bigger sin or smaller sin. Sin is sin which those kill and defraud are both guilty off.

just to ask question.hw Many times do these guys ride on this jets?
U can't imagine how much they pay for d hanger. Where the jets are parked in d airport nd a larger percentage of d congregatiom are living in abject poverty nd penury.it a shame to our pastors.how many of the pastors who own jets do u see preaching salvation nd true repentance?God is watching

There is no need for a response. Kukah said his mind based on his level of understanding and does not represent the opinion of most of us who believe nothing wrong with our pastors having the good things of life provided it was gotten legit. Oyedepo for instance has never taken any political stance, he is not seeking the favor of any political leader to be relevant. He is not seeking their favor for anytn.

I respect Pst Tunde Bakare so much, infact I campaigned for and voted for him in the last election even though I know he sometimes speaks b4 editing. He is still anointed and he is a prophet but he should not join the camp of the accuser of the brethren. Kukahs own is understandable becos the leadership of CAN has left the erstwhile cold catholic approach to become a voice of its own

Religion is becoming a disgrace to the world. Islam, Xtianity etc are not free from dis. How can an institution that should condemn some illicit activities also engage in dsame act. Christian clergy men embrace corruption like it means nothing, Islam imams recognise violence like its d foundation of deir Church. Yet everyday we conduct prayers and pretend to be holy. Religion is gradually losing it. I pray God/Allah sets us back in the right path
