RabbiDoracle:

In 2016 when Fed started to raise rates and CBN also raised rates in response, all stocks in the banking sector rose. Using GTB as example, see the chart below.

Check the monthly charts of other banks as at that period and similar trends will be seen.

erwinschro:
The last time CBN was this hawkish was 2016. MPC meeting march 2016 they raised rates 100 bps from 11 to 12%. They raised them again 200bps in july 2016 from 12 to 14% which remained unchanged till 2019. Correlation is not causation, but I suggest you investigate what happened to FUGAZ from march 2016

Maybe the rate hike is the catalyst the banks needed....

Raising rates in an economy facing cost-push inflation (Nigeria) as opposed to demand pull inflation in the United States is NOT the right way to go. Lending will suffer (rates are already abnormally high for most borrowers to ven pay back while remaining 'going concerns.'

Whatever, I'm sha happy that market stabilize.
Yesterday's dumping was somehow scary, must not continue like that. E no easy to dey lose money. smiley

Besides, I think banking stocks aren't expensive. They didn't even partake in the recent bull, why will they still be shedding again? Not fair on people's investment nah.

Also, if interest rate goes up, wouldn't banks be a beneficiary?

Over 100% improvement from last year. But I noticed that except for Adesola Adeduntan, all other directors sold all of their shares between December and March.

I noticed nothing recorded against former FBNH directors as holdings at time of writing Q1. Doubt if they sold off everything. Perhaps they decided not to show their current holdings as they are no more directors. But then a foot note needs to be inserted to prevent ambiguity.

I noticed current directors don't have FBNH shares. That doesn't look good. shocked

current directors holdings as at 2021 is seen on the extreme right. But nothing appears on the 2022 column.
But also notice that Tunde Hassan Odukaleholdings increased substantially as against zero holdings in 2021. It appears the battle for control of fbnh might still be on.

Look at the current directors. All of them don't have shares. That doesn't look nice. They won't even mind lowering the dividends while increasing their emoluments. As it has no impact on them as they are not shareholders.

On the contrary, market is responding positively.......
Investors also looking at the PAT not only the Dividend payout........if the reason for cutting the Dividend was genuine, then some might be aligning with the future of the bank instead......My opinion.
Q1 was also impressive.

Seems you've been away for long in NSE. grin
