Nigeria my country, the more you look, the less you see. Things are done abnormally routinely. Imagine, Dangote has to import crude oil to feed the much celebrated refinery. In the end, nothing has changed.

A relative in US recently sent 200 USD to my kids for their birthday via Send. I got the money in USD cash from Zenith. I wanted to change it immediately in the same bank to naira but I received a rude shock when the bank told me they can't change my USD cash to naira cash. They suggested I should go to the mallams in the streets. What an irony for a country whose rulers/ruiners says it's seeking dollar inflows/foreign investors on TV. No hope in sight

It's a pity... That's why I face crypto trading more these days

I made an error...the EPS make sense. Profit is 23B. FCMB did 145B with N4 EPS.

While Wema did 2+ EPS with 23B profit. Make I accumulate more Wema longterm.

It seems to me there is a silence conspiracy about the companies' results that have been streaming in on this forum. Unfortunately, i don't know how to analyse results. That's not much problem though, as i can get informations about the results online.
That been said, i must say i am wondering why the current results are not dictating the direction of respective stocks at present.
My regards to all.

When I told someone here that he shouldn't rejoice yet on fcmb 200% increase in profit, these are the things I meant.
WEMA did over 250%, yet I think there is still more to come from the banking industry.
We shall see over 600% increase in PAT.

But in all of these, what really matters is the divudends that would be paid.

Wema profit after tax rose from 11.3B in 2022 to 23.3B in 2023.
That is 106% increase from previous year

FCMB profit after tax rose from 31B in 2022 to 95B in 2023.. this is 206%

There is no metric on the wema annual financial report that gives 250%. I will like to see it maybe am mistaken.

Let me give you an assignment.

Use a calculator to and divide the stated profit for the period by the total outstanding shares (check note 14 for the figure) and tell us what the EPS should be...

Don't believe everything you see in the financial statements hook, line and sinker...

Companies are not immune from making mistakes in their FS.

With EPS of N3.11k, Nahco should be able to pay a dividend of N2.50k

Conveniently, based on their recent dividend history

I noticed that the income statements in these unaudited financial statements are lacking deductions for amortization and depreciation. I think the final audited EPS will be lower once these non-cash expenses are included.

This is a stock that sold for less than N2.50k about 4 years later gave a bonus of 1 for 5, now going to pay a dividend of N2.50k which was about the cost price few years ago

At the end of the day, it is earning growth that drives stock price.

The growth of Nahco from less than N2.50k to about N32.00 is due to earning growth.

Am I missing something?

Based on my calculations of Free Cash Flow using: Net profit + depreciation/amortization - changes in working capital (current assets - current liabilities - cash) - capital expenditures, I got some numbers.

NAHCO's FCF is way lower than their PAT, and the FCF per share is even less than their previous dividend payout. Something seems awfully wrong here, but NNFM looks much better in comparison.

They are deducted. Usually mapped under admin expenses. As a standard, you can't arrived at your operating profit without providing for depreciation and amortization.
