1914 amalgamation which should have been sorted at aburi. We have to return to pre 1966 style of gov. to become a serious nation

afam4eva:
Ethnic group itself is just one of the problems and is not the root cause of Nigeria's problems. Like i said, lack of nationhood is the problem. Nigeria is an amalgamation of different people without having a purpose. We have to define who we are and want to be and put in place machinery to actualize it. That's why people have been clamoring for a Sovereign National conference.

The root problem is the almagamation then, purpose and goals should have been defined which I know was then, strict adherence to it is our problem.
Lord Luggard himself knew the almagamation may backfire, thats why we have the 100years test period document, if he had followed his instinct we wont be where we are today.

Too much religion that kills the reasoning capacity of people. Nigerians are all waiting for god to come help them solve even the most basic problem which the white race have mostly solved for the last 200 years through moving from Religious dogma to more secular reasoning

1)Leadership. Pure and simple. Be he a xtian or muslim, northerner or southerner, old or young, from ACN (without Tinubu's control) or CPC or even PDP (if such a candidate can ever be allowed to emerge from that cesspit of corruption and violence), as long as he knows that his allegiance is FIRST AND FOREMOST to the NIGERIAN PEOPLE, knows WHAT he's supposed to do, HOW he's supposed to do it, WHEN he's supposed to it and WHO he should delegate (if neccessary) to do it, then believe me, corruption, tribalism, religious bigotry, insecurity e.t.c. will cease to exist like they never happened. Of course not everybody will be happy, since some people derive joy only from chaos and sadness, but at least those unhappy with the wave of change originating from the President's desk & sweeping across the nation, will be powerless to stop it.

Those of you saying amalgamation, stop deceiving yourselves and looking for what may appear to be the easy way out, but is actually the hard way out. This country is not too big and not too diverse to be EFFECTIVELY governed by one person. Almost all the tribes in nigeria are already too interconnected, too intertwined to break up. CNN's popular description of Nigeria as "almost equally split between a muslim north and christian south" is not entirely correct. We don mix pass that one. All we need is re-sensitization and someone bold enough to whip senses into the heads of troublemakers from whatever tribe. I assure you, there'll be peace. Once upon a time, Jos was joyous and peaceful, Kaduna was quiet, Kano was all about commerce. Of course, there must have been undertones of jealousy and hate and bigotry, but the atmosphere of security at the time, relatively low unemployment rate compared to now, didn't permit anyone to mess up. Those who did were promptly dealt with (the small pockets of riots which broke out and were effectively quelled in the 80s, early to late 90s).
Now why is the violence looking like its impossible to stop? the answer is simple: those who should stop it (the politicians and public office holders) are benefiting from the divide and crisis so they are/ were reluctant to stop it. I used "were" because now, as will always happen with most evil plans, it appears to have gone over and beyond the control of the originators.

My opinion.

For decades the military bastardise our psych nd up till now we haven't gotten over their brutality to even identify the ethos of good governance. What we have nw is absolute dearth of leadership both in the family, school, religious centers nd goverment itself as d worst casualty.

tawa89: We need to go back to regionalization .This system of government has failed us but we keep trying to make it work wit no or negligible success.Decongest the centre, make the members of our National Assembly to be on part time and be given allowance per sitting each region will develop their region and remit some percentage to d centre wit all these development will be competitive and even . We have to change our system of government if we don't do this even if u put pope benedict xii as commander in chief he will still fail us
Thank you for your comment. Your diagnosis is spot on. Nigeria's problem is structural. But are we ready to make the necessary changes? I dont think so. Any attempt to re-structure Nigeria will be fiercely resisted by the north.

The youths!!! grin

Walahi, we're worse than the leaders we're criticizing. No moral values! Shortcut to wealth, ignorance, pettiness and idiotic westrnized mentality seems to be common place. No real real agenda of moving the country forward asides coming on nairaland to bemoan the terrible state of the nation and cursing each other's tribe 2/4/7.

Some stupid ones even have the effontery to berate (dangote drivers applicant) those who intend to better their lots without indulging in illegality. Granted, most of y'all inherited these silly traits from your parents, but shey dem swear for una ni? Can't you sieve truth from lies, abi why did you go to school? Oooooh school's messed up, I think we can blame our leaders for that one, but for how long are we going to keep blaming our leaders?

Some present leaders blamed their leaders years ago, are we to continue the blame circle?

As for the leaders, hell will definitely reject some people.

Corruption and unpatriotism. An average Nigerian is very corrupt. Civil Servants, Politicians, Professionals, Artisans e.t.c. Also nobody wants to serve and sees every opportunity to. Serve as an opportunity to cut, eat and keep their share of the national cake! The fact that we are not patriotic also, what Establishment, Nation or Company interviews 5 Candidates and then hands over the position of CEO or CinC to the least qualified, least inspiring and least charismatic of the candidates, simply because he is from a part of the nation not looking at track record. The day we start electing leaders based on capability and competence and not on ethnicity and religion is the time we begin to solve our problems as a nation.

In all u mentioned i think is amalgamation.

the British brouth 2geda 2 incompatibles

b4 the amalgamation flulani and Hausa were in the same palava

b4 dat Northern & southern protectorate were also in contention.

After that they've been rulling but now,

they want to continue.

The 1914 amalgamation is the problem of nigeria bcause the myopic british join the north and south for their own selfish reasons without taking into considerations so many things like our mentality, our religion, our attitude to change, can we relate well, our leadership differences, our beliefs etc.. The north should hav been a seperate entity, am sure if the north was made to b a country back then 1914, in 2014 it would still be in 1914... The only pple that can kill CHANGE
