The drawbacks of the Fashola administration is the inability to effectively handle the intertwined microeconomics and macroeconomics of his state.

1 thing he has worked on (which had previously been an Achilles heel).... is having open days... during which progress is disseminated to public domain...**previously he was thought to be a poor communicator*.

I hope he learns quickly to correct this present shortcoming and not make a parody of his present laudable achievements whilst being supported and surrounded by his arse-licking advisers.

Traditionally and culturally, the SW governance (formal and informal) has been largely socialist. Therefore to introduce a very capitalist approach to governance rather prematurely in some cases, will backfire at some point.

Progress for some elite should not be .......of the backs of commoners......
There will be a breaking point ....... and a revolution will occur.

It's the unfair way "progress" is being enacted or instituted... that promotes bigotry.... be it ethnic or religious. Afterall Eko's message starts with "justice"...... please let's enact as such.

Till Fash gets this sorted, Presidency is only a pipedream away.... as he's yet to display the quirky ability to carry all arms of society at once. Usually a common Technocrat downside!!!

savanto: I want to be very objective here. Several times in the past, the Lagos State government had always threatened to shut down, and had indeed shut down at several times the market.

The traders in a bid to remain gainfully employed had to come together through their various Unions and agree on a certain amount of money which they will use in SETTLING the state government. This amounts to several millions of naira.

After this SETTLEMENT, the market would be re-opened for business once again. Something is indeed wrong in the entire system. Government should allocate a land to them for their trade outskirts of the city, and if they have already done this and the traders refused to move, the government should enforce the law through its security operatives in the state. There is absolutely no way that you can do such business of greese that the environment would look clean especially when you have illiterates and semi-illiterates whose population out weighs that of the few educated ones. It is not about ethnic cleansing please.

My 3 cents.

True talk. At least I KNOW money changed hands when Alaba Suru and Odun Ade building materials markets were shut few days ago, some MILLIONS changed hands before they were opened. In my opinion, most of these markets closures are based on vested interest rather the interest for the reasons presented!

Did he create an alternative for them? WTF is wrong with Fashola?

Honestly, all that man thinks about is "shutting down, banning, etc" without once thinking about the people it will affect. This is their only means of survival, you shut it down, how would they make ends meet? Pay for his senseless toll pay, pay for small necessary means of life. If you are going to shut it down, give them an alternative. Dude think. SMH!!

High_Chief: I am disappointed with Fashola, how could he even think of closing the market because it is dirty. A reasonable government should employ some CLEANING COMPANIES that will be cleaning up the area and have those people at the market to pay. This will not only keep the market clean, but will also create employment for people. That is a very daft decision and should not be applauded. Nigerian leaders always looking for easy ways

I'm sure you will be the first to shout, if the goverment request they pay for cleaning the market. Friend, what do you want?

The Lagos State Government should also shut down this road if they are truly sincere.

This road have long been neglected.

Very shameful site along Ago Palace way, Okota.

We cannot go on living like this.

The water hardly dry up, No drainage.

If Ladipo can be shut down due to its filthiness then this road should be shutdown for repairs.

What happens to the taxes tinubu collects from the traders? Why can't they use it to sanitize the place and create lasting order there?

pazienza: Anything to reduce igbo votes in lagos state(SW),is a must for Tinubu and his co-travellers. We would be watching,we would see how that plan pans out.
Why think in this manner.Mile 12 market largely populated by hausas was shut down for 2 weeks yet no hausa man came forward to cry victimization.Filth and environmental polution should never be tolerated by any civilised government.Ladipo traders should take steps to address the concerns raised by government.

Yes but I also believe the blame should go both ways, the traders clean out their market/shop stalls everyday, they obviously have a designated sanitation day, the traders pay environmental sanitation levies/taxes every month/year and now it is the duty of the govt to ensure that their waste disposal agents pick up the cleared out trash at regular intervals preferably mornings and evenings. These things are already paid for, even when you go to your office the place is usually swept before you get there and the trash disposed off properly because you've already provided cash for that earlier. The blame goes both ways my brother

BAD BELLE GOVERNMENT. They wish to be enterprising Ibos. Petty jealousy is worrying them over the huge amount of money these guy are making. The Ibos are known to take destiny in their hands and strive in any business they lay their hands on.
Lagos state government have tried so many times to close down the auto parts market simply because they are not happy with the high level of business going on their. Give the place to their compatriot they cannot do anything their because they are not business people.

I beg government to stop envying the boys because that is the only thing they know best how to do BUSINESS.

Nightshift: After Alaba, Ladipo is the second most important market for Igbo traders in Lagos. Personally, it smells like ethnic cleansing in the making. In a very filthy city like Lagos, one wonders why Ladipo is being made a scapegoat in this particular situation.
it hurts when in this modern era people who are educated like you still make comments based on ethnicity.
If Ladipo is filthy and d drains are blocked by ibos, please by all means chase them away. i am ibo(or i should say Nigerian)and will never support evil based on tribal sentiment.
Im just asking you to please learn that we must all live as one.

i don't think it has to do with ethnicity but more with corruption of the entire LASG officials. shutting it down is an avenue to 'settle'
as for those saying lagosinas aere not paying tax, so how did the LASG I GR rose from 2bn in tinubu time to 25bn in Fasola time.?
what about the VAT , LASTMA tax, VIO tax, MOTOR PARK TAX, OKADA RIDER TAX, MARKET TRADERS DAILY OR MONTHLY/YEARLY TAX/LEVY ? or u think only PAYEE constitute tax?
how many people are structurally employed to pay PAYEE? so government still collects tax through other means. in fact. on a daily basis we pay multiple tax and so many illegal ones.
the worst of all is that the PEOPLE GETS NOTHING IN RETURN for these taxes.
to say Nigeria or LAGOS is in debt cos People DON'T PAY tax just exposes your ignorance . is America and so many other countries not in debt . are people not paying taxes there too?
Nigeria /Lagos being debt is due to corruption. road that should cost 100m is done for 1bn, thereby depriving others areas of the fund . that is the problem.
what has fasola done in this 6 years that is so gigiantic that warrant the mounting debt? what does he do with a monthly revenue of 35bn ? just pure corruption .

Foolish ACN followers will always ignore the truth but it will soon pan out in their eyes. The failure to keep the Ladipo market clean is a failure on the LGA and Fasholas part. They should introduce strict laws on cleanliness in that area instead of embarking on a shutting down spree

Interesting events:

*Ist News- Gov Fashola warns Ladipo traders that he will shut down the market because of dirtness if they dont change.

*2ndly: The following day, traders suspend their business activities, and carry out total environmental sanitation to prevent shutdown, and appease govt.

*3rdly: This morning, govt shuts down the Ladipo market despite traders remorse, claiming they warned previous.

*Next: Like many other markets previously closed, we expect govt/their reps to be paid some millions of naira (bribe) officially/off book before the market is reopened.
