bxcode: When i read some Ѻϝ the posts here, i couldn't do anything but only τ̲̅ȍ shake my head with disdain, instead of condemning the manner in which ǡ corrupt politician was granted an executive pardon, we are busy attacking Mr. Gates for not coming to Nigeria. My fellow country men tho.....

Its okay. Nigerians will always be Nigerians.

Sorry but this guy is a leader among his people rightly or wrongly, and has serious influence over the continued hitch free flow of oil in that region. If his pardon six years after being released from jail will allow him the influence to consolidate and increase the current peace in the region, then the entire nation benefits. Or don't you want Jonathan to implement his programmes? It all depends on the 2.5 million barrels per day oil flowing efficiently. This is why I say that IF YOU ARE IN HIS SHOES, you would be thinking very differently from the way you are now. For all we know, Jonathan is just as disgusted at Alams as we are, but politics means you have to do many things that are unpalatable, or you're sunk.

this from the man who was dissing fashola over floodlights

alams did nothing in bayelsa because he was busy looting the treasury

you are a disgrace

you keep on yakking about nigeria in the future and black history, while defending actions that will keep us in the dark ages forever

alams should be a pariah.

he is still wanted outside these shores by people in saner climes who understand the implications of embezzling public funds

here you saying he 'served his time' because he got a slap on the wrist for leaving his kinsmen in poverty

Guy SHUT THAT YOUR DIRTY M0UTH.... How did you know he did nothing there? Have you been to Bayelsa? Is it your father that built NDU? See as you guys are blaming Alam because he was pardon. What of Obj that set him up because of third term bid?

That doesnt stop the fact that he is dishonest and has added to the bad image of the country. It is The duty of the govt to ensure that the oil regions are put into order. Alam is not needed to ensure the smooth running of the oil pipes. Nigeria is populated with over 150million people. Jonathan is only using that as an excuse. Even if we all agreed he did a good job, no presidential pardon. He should stay low key.

Once a cheat,always a cheat! u dig?

He served his time in jail and was released SIX YEARS AGO!!

He should remain condemned for the rest of his life? Let he who is without sin cast the first stone!!!

You should tell the above to the British government, will ya? Maybe you have forgotten, your almighty messiah Alams is a Wanted Criminal in the UK. Now tell us he has served his time at the scotland yard too

Pardons are MEANT for people who have committed crimes not for saints. Pardons are an enshrined part of any civilized nation's conduct. The USA has pardoned thousands of embezzlers, terrorists and murderers, and this apparently hasn't ''added to the bad image of their country''. You need to worry less about the ''image'' of Nigeria among outsiders, and more about your own environment.

It is The duty of the govt to ensure that the oil regions are put into order. Alam is not needed to ensure the smooth running of the oil pipes.

Easier said than done. That region is restive, with various warlords who can start trouble. The govt can fight them, but even that is disruptive and hinders oil supplies. The govt can't just wipe them out by carpet bombing as that would lead to massive civilian casualties and incense a new generation of militants. So you see there are all sorts of considerations that would be on your table as president. Pardoning Alams so he can call 'his boys' to order while the govt tries to rebuild the region is the lesser evil in so many respects, and appears a reasonable step moving forward.

If he did not get the pardon, i recon he would hold hold Nigeria to ransom with his oil pipes attacking thugs ?

This is strange for a country that yearns for a change.

ALL CORUPT POLITICIANS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR POVERTY IN AFRICA . ALAM IS ONE OF THEM! He needs to go back to prision!

Re: Alamieyeseigha's Pardon: Bill Gates Cancels Trip To Nigeria by obi2012: 3:33pm On Mar 18, 2013
I weep for the future of nigeria and the ignorance in this thread...

How much do nigerian billionaires give to their own brother? Not to talk of donating billions to foreign countries out of their own pockets to eradicate diseases. Instead of focusing their attention on GEJ for what he did, they are turning on the person who is trying to help them and accusing him of injecting them with AIDS. The HIV virus can only survive for a few hours outside the human body, I don't know how Bill Gates is transporting aids from America in syringes. Such lack of education will cost people's lives and stop people from receiving the proper treatment that our government won't provide. Innocent kids continue to lose their lives and the mortality rate continues to rise.

Nigerians, our leaders are constantly abusing us because we are weak minded. We focus our attention on fighting the wrong people instead of the right people. The same way each tribe fights each other while our leaders rob us blind. Unite and focus on your common target "your leaders". There is no accountability in Nigerian government. Nigerian government officials are kings of misdirection, this is why we can't move forward. Whenever they feel like we are getting too wise and onto their tricks, they come up with something to distract us. How do you think boko haram was born?

Please let us unite and hold our leaders accountable regardless of our individual tribes, we are all one. We can't blame the foreigners for our problems when we are so richly blessed with natural resources and free from natural disasters. We as a country generate more per capita income than a lot of western countries yet our brothers, sisters and kids still live in abject poverty. We lack the basic necessities that humans need to survive. The African continent is the biggest hindrance to its own success. Even during the so called subsidy protests, people were laughing and playing during a protest. How will our government take us seriously?

Please people, lets face the real problem.

Basic: If he has other reasons for changing his mind, he should come out straight and not hide under the US government's disappointment over Alameseigha's pardon?
For crying out loud, what's the correlation between healthcare grants/donations and political matters? Does he have ulterior motives?
To the blazes with Bill Gates and his "assistance". He's not bigger than our country. And we don't need him.
Nigeria has been existing before Bill Gates, and will continue to exist after him. We've been getting grants before his, and we'll surely get grants if he withdraws his.
Who send Bill Gates sef? Who send am?
that is just like asking what is the connection between dangote and nigerian politics. The big boys don't have to get involved in politics yet they are 'politicians'

Maybe theres more to what happened during goodluck/alams goverment than we know. Otherwise i don't see any basis for the pardon.

Sharrks: Your rambling speech has not only help to betrayed your level of in-eptitude,but also potrayed you as a simpleton. This singular action has also put you and the tyrant you are laboring to defend in a kind of quagmire, and the only sensible solution, is for the reversal of this very obnoxious decision of granting pardon to a notorious bayelsa thief.Agree he did not breach any constitution, but morally is it the sensable thing to do?or his our president lacking in moral? when people of better moral standing and good role model from Niger Delta like Ken Saro Wiwa and the Ogonis' nine, that are martyr for the good cause of the region are yet to granted state pardon or their efforts appreciated. This action by GEJ, has not only change my perception about the seriousness of the GEJ lead administration to fight corruption, but that of most sane people of Nigeria
The after effect of this act is that when jona term is over, the next president will do likewise to those corrupt nigerians and before you know it, this country will be completely worthless even though it is almost worth nothing. The act is indeffencible. There is nothing that make any president especially in nigeria to perdon any corrupt individual in that our main problem is corruption itself.

Please stop talking rubbish. It is people like you, thoughtless and dense, who go around propagating the myth that every Nigerian shopping on Oxford Street is a looter of oil money. Go and educate yourself and stop hating your country. There are MILLIONS of legitimately rich Nigerians employed in various sectors of the economy, courtesy of that same oil money you claim benefits ''only a few pot belled politicians''. Many of them shop in London and send their kids to Oxford. Much of the oil money HAS spread to the population in the last few decades despite problems like corruption etc, accounting for the huge rise in the Nigerian middle class, so there are no absolutes.

Recently there was a UK documentary showing that Nigerians provide the second or third highest number of shopping visitors to the UK after China and America. They interviewed the Nigerians shopping. None were govt officials or politicians. They were all business people like fashion designers, IT professionals, lawyers etc who simply visited the UK to shop and head back to Nigeria. There are millions of such people. Not every rich Nigerian is a looter of oil money!
