Education is advisable but not mandatory per se.

There is freedom to stay home if someone doesnt like following standard regulations.

Besides, boko haram is fighting against western education anyway.

And there's quite a lot of anti-education preaching on nl, now may be the time to follow such. How many of our celebrities wrnt to school?

There's nothing wrong with wearing hijab to school, hijab is not the same as burka which is a full body wear. Its just a scarf!

Thats a very good thing to do,because if you allow it to continue, very soon the muslim will demand it as a right that all muslim women should wear it to school.

You are still hoping, they will even see fashola as supporting infidels. They will even turn it political and say fashola is betraying muslims and supporting GEJ and CAN.

Soon the Northern Elders forum, the arewa youth and Northern governors forum will start asking tinubu to call fashola to order.

This is just the beginning.

so those rules and regulations should override ones religious injunctions? Why should a muslim girl who wants to cover her modesty be forced to expose her nak.edness to the public?
so because a muslim girl wants to cover her head, she should ignore every rules that guide school uniform eh. that means cherubim and saraphim girl can wear her sultana to school, a pagan can wear his otumopko cloth to school huh. when there is no rules there is no sin. if ur girl wants to wear hijab to school no problem as long as u will allow my daughter to carry otumokpo to school

Praying on the assembly ground too should be abolished. The banning is not right just because secularity favours one religion than the other, all we want is equality and religious freedom...

Kudos to Fashola for this. I personally thought with the level of our extreme religious affiliations, sentiments,a man can make policies devoid of sentiments, partialities, hatred. I was once hearing of Osun state governor taking biased decisions in the name of religion. Our nation will delay in meeting her goal if we allow religion, ethnicity comes before credibility, performance, accountability and good governance. Again, another bold decision by a true leader.

Those were not required by their religion to be worn so your argument hold no water. Islamic religion recommend head covering for women the other religion you refer to didn't.

Can see your point and although there were meetings before an agreement was reached one cannot determine how wide the consultations were. This is where the state assembly comes in (just wonder what their job is exactly) as they are closer to the grassroots than the executive and can truly represent the wishes of the people.

Unilateral decisions even by government can lead to extremism. LASG should handle this matter carefully.

Aderostock: Lagos State Government says pupils in its public schools are only allowed to wear conventional uniforms to the school.

It added that usage of other appendages, including Hijab, a head scarf for Muslim women, would not be allowed.

The Commissioner for Education Mrs. Olayinka Oladunjoye, said this on Tuesday at a press briefing in Ikeja, adding that usage of Hijab and other religious materials in public schools was against government’s policy.

She said, “I summoned a stakeholder’s meeting that was chaired by the Commissioner for Home Affairs and Culture, Alhaji Oyinlomo Danmole. The Muslim students were represented at the meeting, Lawyers were represented. We discussed the issue at length and we reached certain agreement.

“We agreed that students could only use their Hijab when they want to go for prayers, when they want to read Qur’an, and when they are going for Jumat prayer on Fridays.

“It was agreed that no student should wear Hijab on her uniform. Doing so will cause confusion and break down of the law.

“Whoever wish that his daughter should be wearing Hijab while going to school and within the school should send such child to a private Muslim school,”

The commissioner, who said the government was committed to overhauling the education sector, added that the administration had spent over N7bn in upgrading the Lagos State University

Oladunjoye added that the government would continue to provide qualitative education “by all means”.

She said various educational development programmes like Eko Project, Support Our Schools Initiative, and specialised development programmes for teachers and administrators in 20 specialised areas, were parts of government programmed to boost education.

She said, “For the teachers and administrators, we are boosting their capacities in areas such as subject mastery, leadership, classroom management, assessment and evaluation, ICT, Basic Accounting and many others.”
