PoliticsWhat Must Be Done To Stop Killings In Nigeria – French Ambassador by 12Ebisco(op): 8:36am On Sep 22, 2018
Denys Gauer, outgoing French Ambassador to Nigeria on Friday faulted the insinuation that foreigners are involved in the killings across the country.

The French envoy’s position contradicts that of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Recall that Buhari had said that the killings in some parts of Nigeria were as a result of the influx of mercenaries from the Sahel region.

“It has always been there, but now made worse by the influx of armed gunmen from the Sahel region into different parts of the West African sub-region,” the president had said when Justin Welby, archbishop of Canterbury, visited him in London back in April.

But speaking with journalists on Friday in Abuja, Gauer countered Buhari, saying impunity is encouraging the killings in the country and those responsible must be punished.

According to him, killings would stop when justice is served to killers.

On how to stop the killings, he urged the government to persecute those responsible for the killings in order to put an end to it.

“The reason for the killings is demography; some people are fighting for land, so there must be direct policy to develop agriculture and animal husbandry.

“I think impunity is encouraging the killings and those responsible must be punished. I don’t believe foreigners are involved in the killings.

“The second is justice. When there is that kind of killing, there must be proper prosecution and perpetrators must be properly sentenced. If that does not happen then, it cannot end.”

CelebritiesEnd Of The Road For A Deadly Armed Robber/cultist As He Was Shot Dead Yesterday by 12Ebisco(op): 4:42pm On Sep 20, 2018
Lagos state police command have killed a member of a notorious criminal gang terrorizing the state yesterday, September 19th.

A statement from the state police command’s spokesperson, SP Chike Oti, says a tip off from a well meaning citizen to the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Owode Onirin, Ikorodu Lagos, changed the game for the criminal gang who had at about 6pm yesterday, at Demuren street, Alapere, stabbed one Sylvester Chikwendu, male, aged 32 years, suspected to be a rival cult member to death.

Sequel to the information, the DPO, mobilised a crack team to Thomas Bus-stop, Owode. He told his men to narrow the road and gave them a clear description of the gang’s operational car.

When the gang approached the police zone, they became desperate and opened fire on the operatives in their last ditched effort to evade arrest, eliciting immediate response from the team.

However, in the ensuing gun battle, one of them bowed to death owing to bullet wounds sustained during the fight while the others escaped with varying degrees of gun shot wounds abandoning the following items which had since been recovered, at the scene; viz: their operational vehicle, a Toyota Camry saloon car without registration plate, one pump action rifle, one locally made revolver pistol, one locally made single barrel pistol, five live 9mm calibre ammunition, three live cartridges, two expended cartridges, two cutlasses, charms (Juju) and assorted clothing.

PoliticsWAEC Has Confirmed Adeleke’s Certificate, Show Yours – CUPP Dares Buhari by 12Ebisco(op): 3:13am On Sep 20, 2018
The Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) has reacted to the confirmation by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) that Ademola Adeleke, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Osun governorship election, sat for its examination in 1981.

The coalition said it was high time President Muhammadu Buhari released his own certificate.

Imo Ugochinyere, CUPP spokesperson, in a statement on Wednesday, said the last desperate option of causing confusion among voters by pushing for Adeleke’s disqualification has failed and the All Progressives Congress (APC) is on the way out.

He said: “It gladdens our hearts that Senator Adeleke did not hire 13 SANs to frustrate the hearing of the case by filing numerous frivolous applications and appeals like President Muhammadu Buhari did when summoned to Court to produce his own certificate.

“Mr. Buhari who undeservedly prides himself as Mr. Integrity is yet to provide his certificate; apparently because he does not have any. How can one attach integrity to such a character? President Buhari is hereby called upon to now direct the Army Secretary to produce the certificate he tendered to the Army on the day he joined the Nigerian Army.

“Having failed in this last plot to continue to hold down a resolute Osun electorate in their mire of misgovernance, we have it on good authority that the APC led Federal Government has activated the Nigeria Police which has effectively turned itself into the militant wing of the ruling Party to summon the candidate again based on concocted allegations just to derail the sack of APC from the Osun Government House.

“The same Nigeria Police that refused to comment or take action on the now proven certificate forgery of former Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun for over two months when her scandal broke nor the continuing raging scandal of Mr. Okoi Obono-Obla against whom the Registrar of WAEC had testified at a House of Representatives investigation that he parades a fake certificate is now the Police running from pillar to post groping for nonexistent evidence.

“Since he was rewarded with appointment as Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris has not investigated nor prosecuted any official of this government for all the allegations of crime made against them. The politically induced summoning of Adeleke is like a wild goose chase, it will not achieve any noble end.

“The Buhari administration has now become shameless, purposeless, conscienceless and clueless. The plot by the APC government working with the Police, which now behave like the Security Arm of the APC to arrest key opposition governorship candidates and their supporters 24 hours to election to deprive them of the chance to make adequate preparation for the election shall be resisted.

“We shall not allow a situation where the governorship Candidates of the PDP (Sen. Adeleke), SDP (Sen. Omisore) and others will be locked away by the police few hours to the election using unsubstantiated baseless allegations”.

Mohamed Salah has said that Liverpool have what it takes to win both UEFA Champions League trophy and the Premier League title this season.

Salah said this ahead of the Reds Tuesday’s Champions League Group C opener against Paris Saints-Germain at Anfield.

Liverpool head to the game following a 2-1 victory against Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League encounter last weekend.

PSG on the other hand, head to the game after beating St Etienne 4-0 in their Ligue 1 encounter on Friday.

Speaking on Liverpool’s chances in the Champions League and Premier League this season, Salah told French outlet, France Football, “I’m sure we can win it.

“Last season, we eliminated Manchester City (in quarter, 3-0 and 2-1), then Roma (5-2 and 2-4) , who had come to beat FC Barcelona in the quarterfinals (3-0, 1-4).

“We played against teams that claimed the title, and we still managed to reach the final.

“So, of course we can do it again! I’m sure we can win it. We can even win both, the Champions League and the Premier League title. I do not want to put pressure on you, but yes, anything is possible!

“The PSG has strong individualities and a very good team. I cannot wait to play against them! I expect a very pleasant and intense confrontation.”

EducationASUU Protests Planned Sack Of Lecturers In LASU by 12Ebisco(op): 7:10am On Sep 15, 2018
Members of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) on Friday, walked to the governor’s office in Lagos to urge the governor to set up a visitation panel on the alleged plan by the management of the Lagos State University (LASU) Ojo, to terminate the appointment of three of its members at LASU Chapter, unjustly. The protesters, in their hundreds, carried placards with various inscriptions.

Speaking at the protest ground, the Lagos zone coordinator of ASUU, Prof Sowande Olusiji, gave the names of the concerned ASUU-LASU members as Dr Tony Dansu, Dr Adeolu Oyekan and Dr Oluwafemi Aboderin-Shonibare, who are secretary, assistant secretary and treasurer respectively, saying the management was planning to sack them for allegedly exposing a document that unduly backdated the promotion of the incumbent vice-chancellor, Prof Olarenwaju Fagbohun, from the associate level to full-fledged professor.

Prof Olusiji, who is in solidarity with the so-called victimised members, said the Vice-Chancellor went ahead to invite the three people to join Senate Council Disciplinary Committee, noting that it is his conviction that the intervention of the governor, whom he described as visitor, would go a long way in resolving the matter.

PoliticsDefection: Over 1000 Members Dump APC For PDP In Lagos by 12Ebisco(op): 8:37am On Sep 14, 2018
Over 1000 members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Ajeromi Ifelodun Local Government Area of Lagos State, have dumped the party for the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

The defectors were received by the member representing Ajeromi/ Ifelodun Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives, Hon. Rita Odichimma Orji.

While receiving the defectors at the playground of Saint Mary’s Catholic Church, Ajegunle, the lawmaker assured them of full integration into the activities of the PDP.

She commended them for the courageous decision in leaving the APC.

“The party has failed to deliver on its promises to Nigerians. It is clear, beyond any reasonable doubt that since the inception of the APC-led administration, the nation has continued to grapple with loads of socio-economic and political problems.

“It is worrisome that today there is so much division in the country unlike before, while bloodletting and spates of killings of innocent Nigerians and other acts of violent crimes have become the order of the day, mainly due to the cluelessness and leadership failure of the APC-led federal government,” she said.

In her remarks, Mrs. Maina, a member of the PDP Board of Trustees (BOT), charged the defectors to be loyal to the party and to work in synergy with other members to ensure the victory of the party in coming elections.

In his response, leader of the defectors and a former chieftain of APC in the area, Chief Tajudeen Balogun, said that they were forced to dump APC over inability “to implement its promises to bring the much talked about “change” to impact on the lives of Nigerians.

PoliticsBlack Rain Falls From The Sky In Ihitte Okwe Community, Imo State by 12Ebisco(op): 10:53am On Sep 13, 2018
It is not in doubt that Ihitte Okwe autonomous community in Ngor Okpala Local Government Area of Imo State, is a completely rural settlement.

It is also clear that the name of the community does not ring a bell. To say that the community is largely peaceful and a good chunk of the population are peasant farmers, is also a truism.

However, a strange happening has brought the community’s name to the front burner. The rains of September 2018, obviously did the magic. The scary event has thrown up the glaring neglect and possible marginalisation of the area by successive governments in the state. Going to Ihitte Okwe is akin to a trip to Golgotha. No road leading into or out of the community is paved.

To say that the roads are waterlogged, especially during the rainy season, amounts to being miserly with the proper adjective to qualify them.

Responding angrily to the question posed by South-East Voice, on the plight of the indigenes of Ihitte Okwe, one of the civil servants that operates from the community, said: “We have been passing through untold hardship over the years. The sorry thing is that the end of our suffering appears not to be in sight. The tragedy is that the government of the day is not looking our way. There is no likelihood that the administration will be interested in our welfare now that it is gradually winding down.”

Giving a graphic account of the black rain, the traditional ruler of the community, Eze Barnabas Obirieze, said: “The villagers woke up, like in all the previous days, prepared to go about their daily chores. Some were preparing to go to church. Nobody knew what was in the offing. Not too long after daybreak, the sky darkened. The dark, thick cloud was palpable. Nothing about the weather was strange, and that was the general feeling of the people.

“The villagers rightly interpreted the weather to mean that it was going to rain, and possibly, heavily too! Most people opted to stay back in their family homes. It turned out to be a somewhat wise decision.

“Expectedly, the rain started and like musical notes, it rose speedily to a crescendo. The issue was no longer the torrential downpour. What immediately attracted the people’s attention was the colour of the rain. It was completely black!

“The initial thought was that it could have been the dirty roofing sheets. This turned out to be wrong because, on a second thought, it was clear that it was not the first rain of the year. First rain, over the past years, were slightly brownish in colour, and definitely not black.

“This was a different story all together. as even the flood water flowing along the unpaved roads in the community, was also dark”, Obirieze recounted with a level of apprehension.

Continuing his narrative, the soft spoken but ever cheerful royal father said that the experience was strange and fearful.

“Honestly, the experience was, and still remains strange and fearful, even as I speak to you today. I remember that I was in the church on that fateful day, when the rain started. It was a pretty heavy rain. We tarried for a long while, waiting for the rain to subside.

“When it subsided and we were set to leave the church, we noticed that everywhere was black. The flood water was black. All the receptacles in all family homes, were filled with black water. Clothes, especially the white ones, whose owners hung outside before the rain, were automatically decolorised.

“I became naturally alarmed and as the person my people look up to for virtually everything, I took some photographs and equally started making contacts with people that can help narrate our experience to the world.

“I must make it clear that there is no case of oil prospecting or exploration going on anywhere in my community. The only establishment that is some kilometres away from my community, is the Imo Airport. Let me also say that if the black rain was midwifed by the aircraft using the airport, then, the experience should have been total, but this is not the case.

“I have made inquiries from all the neighbouring communities and the result showed that only the eight villages of Ihitte Okwe community experienced the black rain. I appeal to the state and Federal Government agencies responsible for such occurrences, to please come and investigate the matter and allay our fears. For now, we are all living in fear”, Eze Obirieze pleaded.

Sharing on social media, Betty Irabor advised the singer on what to do to get over the depressed state as she praised him on his decision to seek therapy.

“Dear @iamharrysong (And To others whom it may concern) I don’t know you but I know of you. I became curious about you after a post suggesting that you may be going through depression! Since my own bout, I have learnt that many are very ignorant about this mental health issue and show very little empathy for the sufferer.

I am happy you have taken that bold step to open up and seek therapy . Even with therapy, there will be many off days but you must commit to getting better (appreciating how far you have come, celebrating little and major successes and milestones, avoiding negative vibes, find a safe place, don’t overanalyze your current situation; it’s temporary, embrace Talk therapy and not depend solely on antidepressants, pray as if your life depends on it.. it actually does!

“Never forget that thoughts become things; own your positive thoughts, change your negative mindset, choose your perspectives carefully.) The journey to recovery may be frustrating and there could be a relapse but you’re gonna be just fine because the hand of trauma may be long, the good news is that it can be BROKEN. Give your self time to mend and don’t rush the process! Blessings! #dusttodew #depression #mentalhealth #empathy #nonegativevibes.” she concluded.

In his remarks, the Executive Chairman of Suleja Local Government, Hon. Abdullahi Shuaibu Maje said, “I would like to commend and congratulate the CEO of Stanel Group. On behalf of the good people of Suleja, I really appreciate and welcome this gesture in our domain.

“We know some of our people have started working here already and the CEO also said he was still going to engage more youths (men and women) into this One-Stop Facility. We have seen different businesses going on here – the car wash, Chicken Republic, Bakery, Stanel Tyres, kiddies park and others. This is not just a filling station.

“In addition to creating jobs for our people, Stanel Group has lightened up our community as part of its social responsibility with over 72 street light polls already powered up while the project is still ongoing.

“We thank our amiable Governor, Bello for allowing this to happen in Suleja and we hope and pray that the way Mr. Stanley came in here, he will also be in the entire 36 states of the federation.”

SportsSeychelles Vs Nigeria: Omokaro Applauds Super Eagles by 12Ebisco(op): 9:52pm On Sep 08, 2018
Former Nigeria international, Bright Omokaro, on Saturday lauded the Super Eagles’ 3-0 away victory against Seychelles in the 2019 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier in Victoria.

Omokaro, in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos, described Super Eagles’ performance in the match as good.

“The good thing is that we got the three points at stake in the match, and that is very vital.

“So, by and large, the players’ performance was okay all through the match,” he said.

The former international, however, urged the team to step up its performance in their remaining matches of the qualifiers against Libya and South Africa, to enable Nigeria’s flag to be hoisted at the final event in Cameroon.

He advised that other senior players in the squad to the recently-concluded FIFA 2018 World Cup in Russia, should be featured in the remaining qualifying matches.

This, Omokaro said, would ensure Nigeria’s qualification for the final in Cameroon.

“We will need good hands to play against South Africa and Libya, if we want to qualify from our group.

“Our encounter against both countries will be the real test for Coach Gernot Rohr.

“Both countries are not pushovers; we have already lost against South Africa at home. So, our match against them is a must win for us,” he added.

Libya and South Africa are currently occupying the first and second positions in Group E, while Nigeria are third with three points.

CelebritiesNetflix Buys Worldwide Rights To Genevieve Nnaji’s Movie ‘lionheart’ by 12Ebisco(op): 7:42pm On Sep 08, 2018
American media services provider, Netflix has reportedly bought worldwide rights to Nollywood star, Genevieve Nnaji’s comedy movie, Lionheart. Netflix acquired the movie just a day before its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).

Variety Magazine reports that Lionheart will be the first Netflix original film from Nigeria.

The comedy movie which marks Nnaji’s directorial debut stars some of the biggest Nollywood personalities including Nkem Owoh, Pete Edochie and Onyeka Onwenu.

The story follows a daughter who’s forced to work with her feckless uncle in order to save her father’s ailing bus company. Nnaji plays Adaeze, a level-headed executive in her father’s bus company, Lionheart Transport. When her father (played by Edochie) falls ill, both she and her rival (Kalu Egbui Ikeagwu) are passed over in favor of the uncle, played by Owoh.

Complications arise when they discover that the family business is in dire financial straits — leading to absurd results as they try to save the company. The film also touches on everyday sexism that saturates the workplace, as well as the delicate balance between honoring one’s family while finding the courage to strike out on one’s own.

PoliticsJigawa Dep. Governor Speaks On Giving N50m To INEC by 12Ebisco(op): 10:04am On Sep 07, 2018
Deputy Governor of Jigawa State, Barrister Ibrahim Hadejia has spoken on report that the state government supported the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the state with N50 million.

In the report making the rounds, Hadejia gave out N50 million to support INEC to facilitate the distribution of Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs) in the state.

Hadejia, however, denied the report on Thursday while speaking to journalists to mark ‘Jigawa at 27’ in Dutse.

The deputy governor said the state government had provided money to the local government councils to facilitate logistics and movements of eligible voters not INEC as reported.

“There was never a time that the state government gave money to INEC in whatever form. There was never a time that I told anybody or granted an interview to any journalist and said Jigawa State government had released money to support INEC.

“What I said was that we are doing our best, we actually funded the local government councils to provide logistic support to the citizens to go and collect their voters cards,” he said.

Politics2019 Polls: 259 Declare Interests In 35 Seats In Ekiti by 12Ebisco(op): 10:15am On Sep 06, 2018
Two hundred and fifty-nine aspirants have declared interests in senatorial, House of Representatives and House of Assembly seats in next year’s general elections in Ekiti State.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that prospective candidates would contest for the three senatorial seats, six House of Representatives’ seats and 26 seats in the House of Assembly in 2019.

No fewer than 40 persons are currently seeking the nod of their political parties for the national and state assemblies’ seats from the five most visible parties in the state.

The number of aspirants is expected to increase as the build-up to the 2019 polls continues to gather momentum.

The prominent parties in the state are: the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the incoming All Progressives Congress (APC), Labour Party (LP), MEGA Party, Accord Party (AP) and the Peoples Party of Nigeria (PPN).

Many of the aspirants have flooded Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, and other major towns, like Ikole-Ekiti, Ikere-Ekiti, Ijero-Ekiti, Emure-Ekiti and Ifaki-Ekiti, with their campaign billboards, handbills and posters.

The aspirants include Senators Fatimat Raji-Rasaki, Biodun Olujimi, Ayo Arise and Olubunmi Adetumbi.

Also, the former Secretary-General of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), Mr. Obafemi Adewale and a former member of the House of Representatives, Mr. Opeyemi Bamidele have indicated interests in the seats.

Others are: a former chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in the state, Mr Tai Oguntayo; a former Chief of Staff, Chief Yemi Adaramodu and the former Special Adviser on Documentation, Hakeem Jamiu.

The list also include: Dr Segun Osinkolu, Mr. Demola Oladaiye and Mr Abayomi Lostay, among others.

Bamidele, who was Commissioner for Information and Strategy in Lagos State, told NAN that he is in the senatorial race.

He said the people of Ekiti Central Senatorial District considered him worthy of the office.

Also, Senator Arise said he is the best to represent the people of Ekiti North Senatorial District, considering his previous experience in the Senate, business background and track record.

Oguntayo, who is the chairman of the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA), pledged to bring his vast experience in unionism and public service into the legislative chamber in the state assembly.

He is also a former Secretary to Ekiti West Local Government Area.

The chairman of PPN in the state, Chief Dare Adekolu, told NAN that many of his party members were interested in one elective post or the other.

According to him, the party has no problems with the number of aspirants as it shows how democratic a party can be in accommodating all shades of opinions and aspirations.

Adekolu said the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had directed that the political parties must conduct their primaries between September and October.

The PPN chairman said the outcome of such primaries would determine who would become the flag bearers of the various parties in next year’s general elections.

NAN reports that the parties in the state have kept the names of their presidential aspirants close to their chests.

But the governorship election was concluded on July 14 with Dr Kayode Fayemi becoming the governor-elect.

PoliticsWhy I Dumped PDP – Donald Duke (what He Said Will Shock You) by 12Ebisco(op): 7:45am On Sep 05, 2018
Former Cross River Governor, Donald Duke, has explained why he left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He spoke in Abuja on Tuesday after a meeting with the Deputy National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Abdul Isiaq.

Duke said the party where he had been a member for 20 years had lost its values and was now a shadow of itself.

“The PDP we joined in 1998 is certainly not the same party that is in place today.

“When the former President of the country walked away from the part, you should know there is problem somewhere.

“PDP is the first truly national party, but over the years, you will see that it lost that and became a shadow of itself,” he said.

Duke said that he also left PDP to SDP because the nation was seeking for rebirth and most Nigerians were seeking something different and better which the SDP represented.

“I believe that the nation is seeking for rebirth. I believe that most Nigerians are yearning for something different and better and I am hoping that as like minds, we will come together.’’

He also disclosed that he would be contesting for the position of the president on the platform of SDP, and expressed confidence that though 2019 elections may be tough, he would win.

On the president’s refusal of assent to the amended Electoral Act Bill, Duke said that there were a lot of politics around the Electoral Act.

He that the president’s refusal on the bill may not be unconnected with the issue of re-ordering of the election sequence.

“I think that is still largely the underlining reasons for the president veto to the amended Act. In politics, people want to take advantage of what will satisfy them,” he added.

Crime14 Die As Suspected Herdsmen Attack Plateau Again by 12Ebisco(op): 3:55am On Sep 04, 2018
Tragedy struck again on Sunday night when suspected Fulani herdsmen attacked the Jos South and Bassa Local Government Areas of Plateau State and killed 14 persons.

The killings came at a time when Governor Simon Lalong was in Beijing, China with President Muhammadu Buhari to participate in the 7th Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation scheduled to hold from September 3 to 4.

The latest killings came barely 24 hours after the alarm raised by the Executive Director of Stephanos Foundation, a civil rights organisation, Mark Lipdo, of fresh plots by the herdsmen to attack some villages in Plateau State.

He had said, “It is rumoured that the Fulani will sweep over Berom Land on (Sunday) September 2. This was how all the past attacks were rumoured and the security took them for granted until hundreds were wiped out, some in their sleep. Here again is another rumour!

“What will the security do? Sit down and do nothing until blood is spilt!! God, arise and defend the cause of the defenceless in the land. It is another rumour, but today rumours seem to be more authentic than government information. So sad!!!.”

Our correspondent learnt that in one of the attacks which took place at a community called Rati around Du village, close to Dogo Nahawa, the herdsmen came on motorbikes popularly called Okada and sprayed bullets sporadically on their victims killing 12 persons on the spot.

During the second incident, the assailants were said to have laid ambush for their victims in Adu village in the Kwall District, Bassa LGA around 11 pm and shot at their targets.

While one was killed on the spot and his corpse cut to pieces, the second victim was said to have died on Monday morning in the hospital.

When contacted, the spokesperson for the Plateau State Police Command, Matthias Tyopev, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, confirmed the attacks but insisted that 11 persons were killed while eight others were injured in the attack in Du.

“Eleven people lost their lives and eight were injured in the attack which took place in Lopandet, Dwei, in Du. An investigation is on to arrest the perpetrators,” he stated.

Last week in Jos, the Christian Association of Nigeria (Northern Region) held a two-day peace summit with the theme: “Sustainable peace and security in Northern Nigeria as a panacea for development”, and barely 24 hours after the meeting, suspected herdsmen struck killing eight persons, including a pastor, wife and three children.

The chairman, Committee on Public Accounts and Petition and member representing the Barkin Ladi constituency in the Plateau State House of Assembly, Peter Gyendeng, confirmed the killing of 12 persons in an interview with our correspondent in Jos on Monday.

He said, “Despite the peace meetings, the killings have continued. The killing is not at Dogo Nahawa precisely, it is at a village called Rati around Du village, close to Dogo Nahawa at the back of Waye Foundation in the Jos South LGA.

“As of yesterday (Sunday night), the dead persons were 12 and eight injured. The persons who sustained varying degrees of injury were taken to the hospital. A delegation will be going there this (Monday) morning to ascertain the number of deaths. These people have declared war against us, that is the fact.

“One thing people should understand is that anytime there is a peace meeting, they will attack. Last week after the peace meeting organised by CAN for stakeholders, there were killings. Anytime there is something of that nature, they will attack.”

The spokesperson for the Miango Youths Development Association, Lawrence Zongo, also confirmed the killing of two persons in Bassa LGA.

He stated that so far Bassa LGA “has lost 27 persons in ambush attacks between April and September 2018.”

Zongo said, “Last (Sunday) night, there was an attack on our people around 11 pm. While one was killed on the spot and his body cut into pieces, the other person died around 3.30 am this (Monday) morning.

“It was another ambush again in Adu village in the Kwall District, Bassa LGA. They were ambushed around 11 pm on their way back home from Kwall. One died instantly after his body was cut to pieces, while the other gave up in Enos Hospital, Miango at exactly 3.30am.”

PoliticsShocking:”i Can’t Pay N55m Nomination Fee” – President Buhari To APC by 12Ebisco(op): 7:43pm On Sep 02, 2018
The upward review of the Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms by the All Progressives Congress (APC), has suffered a setback as President Muhammadu Buhari has told the National Working Committee members of the party that N55 million is too high for him.

The President had four years ago complained over the N27.5 million nomination forms for the Presidential ticket and had argued that if he had his way, he would have ensured downward review of the fees.

But the National Working Committee of the APC has reviewed the nomination forms upward to the tune of N55 million. While the Presidential Nomination form goes for N50 million, the Expression of Interest Form costs N5 million.

A member of the National Executive Committee of the party told the Sunday Telegraph in an exclusive interview that the President “has complained to the party that he could not afford it”

The NEC source said that the President had told the NWC members that he was a salary earner, therefore he does not have such money to purchase the nomination forms of the party”

Also reviewed upward are the cost of nomination forms for the governorship, senatorial, House of Representatives and State House of Assembly forms.

For the APC governorship ticket, the party reviewed the nomination forms from N5.5 million to N22.5 million, senatorial ticket from N3.3 million to N8.5 million, House of Representatives from N2.2 million to N6.5 million and state House of Assembly from N550, 000 to N1.1 million.

The members of the Not-to-Young-to-Run in APC have vowed to protest the high cost of nomination forms.

CelebritiesMuyiwa Ademola Reveals How His Wife Stopped Him From Quitting Acting When He Was by 12Ebisco(op): 11:22am On Sep 02, 2018
Highly respected in the Yoruba movie industry, Muyiwa Ademola has admitted that there was a time he became depressed and felt he was no longer needed in the movie industry.

In an encounter with Sunday Scoop, the top actor said the influx of comedy movies almost made him give up a career he had always loved.

He stated, “I have been depressed before and I thought it was over for me as an actor. I am a serious film-maker, unlike some of my colleagues who do comedy. When there was an influx of comedy movies in the industry, marketers wanted me to shoot comedy too. I tried to emulate my colleagues, but it didn’t come to me naturally. Later, I realised that I was not made for comedy movies; I am made for serious and touching stories.”

Explaining further, he said during these periods, people felt it was his end as an actor and he was worried too. But, according to him, his wife kept assuring him that it was just a passing phase.

“I felt depressed during that period. I had stories that once you saw them, you would just go home and sleep. I felt dejected and thought it was over for me as an actor. But my wife helped me through those times. She assured me that it was a passing phase and it was actually one,” he narrated.

Ademola, who plays a key role in a new movie, Bipolar, argued that a lot of people were battling depression.

He stated, “Most people are depressed, including celebrities. It begins like a child’s play and grows to the point when suicidal thoughts set in. You may think an individual is rich or has everything, but it is not always so.”

Speaking on his role in Bipolar, he said, “I play the role of a psychiatrist who discovers that a lady has bipolar. It is a film I like all Nigerians to watch as we talk about an issue most people ignore. Both the rich and the poor suffer from it; there is a need to show love to people living with bipolar. If you don’t do that, they will get to a point where they think everyone hates them and committing suicide becomes the next option.”

PoliticsGuardiola 'happy' With Sane Attitude Despite Dropping Him From Man City Squad by 12Ebisco(op): 10:28pm On Sep 01, 2018
However, sources close to Guardiola have indicated that he was disappointed with Sane's late cameo against Wolves, as well as his subsequent efforts in training.

In comments that appeared on City's Twitter feed on Saturday evening, the City boss confirmed that Sane had been dropped, rather than missing out through injury, and said he hopes the German "can be an important player" for the club this season.

#PEP: @LeroySane19 was dropped from the squad. Last season he was such an important player for us and we hope this season he will be a really important player for us as well. #cityvnufc

— Manchester City (@ManCity) September 1, 2018

Guardiola was unwilling to criticise the 22-year-old in his post-match press conference, insisting that he has so many forwards that one had to miss out.

"Last game Phil Foden was not in the squad and it was so sad for Phil, and I'm so sad for Leroy now. But we have a squad, we have six strikers and I decided to play with two strikers, we have two wingers plus another one on the bench and that's why we decided this game he wouldn't be there.

"In the next games he will be ready to play."

Asked directly if he was happy with Sane's commitment, the Catalan replied, "Yes", before insisting he had no serious concerns about the winger's performance at Molineux.

"He played 10 minutes, he tried. He was not precise but he tried. They convince me, I am satisfied from the moment they run. Mistakes without the ball, taking decisions is part of the process."

Sane had to make do with three cameo appearances from the bench before being dropped on Saturday, while he was brought off at half-time in the Community Shield at the start of August.

Sane was cut from the Germany squad for this summer's World Cup by Joachim Low, with the winger's attitude believed to be one factor in his manager's decision.

SportsEPL: Guardiola Reacts To Mourinho Saying He’s Won More Titles Than Other Manager by 12Ebisco(op): 8:05am On Sep 01, 2018
Manchester City boss, Pep Guardiola, has said he will not judge Jose Mourinho, after the Manchester United manager claimed he deserved “respect” for winning three Premier League titles.

Mourinho has come under scrutiny after United’s back-to-back defeats against Brighton and Tottenham, which has left them 13th with just three points.

The United boss stormed out of his post-match press conference after the 3-0 loss to Spurs at Old Trafford on Monday, demanding for more respect as he made reference to his title wins with Chelsea.

When Manchester City boss Guardiola was asked whether he thought Mourinho needed to ask for it, he said: “I said many times I don’t judge. Of course we are judged for the titles we get now, especially if you have won titles as it can work.

“There is no doubt about his quality – I have never doubted that in the past, I won’t now. But it is not only the titles.

“I have said many times, for example with myself, I have won at amazing clubs with amazing players, but if that had not happened I would not have won titles.

“But there are many many managers who don’t win titles who are excellent. That’s why on one side it happens because you have something special to win titles but the other side managers are so good it is not necessary to win because good clubs, good players sustain you.

“In many circumstances, the manager cannot control it. That does not mean they are not good.”

Politics2019: “i’m All Out For Free & Fair Election” – Buhari Assures UK PM by 12Ebisco(op): 6:41pm On Aug 30, 2018
President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday assured the visiting United Kingdom (UK) Prime Minister, Theresa May of his commitment to conducting free, fair and credible elections in 2019.

Speaking at a bilateral meeting with his guest, the president said: ‘‘I assure you that I’m all out for free, fair and credible elections.

“I’m very pleased that my party is doing very well.

The High Commissioner will brief you more. The recent successes in polls in Katsina, Bauchi, and Kogi have boosted our morale greatly.”

He also welcomed UK’s support at strengthening democratic institutions in the country.

A statement issued by Femi Adesina, Special Adviser on media and publicity, after the meeting, quoted him as saying: ‘‘Nigeria has accepted multiparty democracy and that is putting politicians on their toes, forcing them to work harder,’’ he said.

On the anti-corruption campaign, the President applauded the British support to the country, noting that the success of the fight was very important to ordinary people in the country.

He added: “We had great opportunities and resources between 1999 and 2014, due to high oil prices. But when we came in 2015, oil prices plunged to as low as 37 dollars per barrel.

‘‘What we have been doing since 2015 is to focus on infrastructure development, despite low earnings. Work is ongoing in roads, rail, power, and many others.”

On Brexit, President Buhari noted that it provides an opportunity to strengthen the historic ties between Nigeria and the United Kingdom.

‘‘We are nervously watching the development about Brexit because we know that the relationship had been on for a long time. I assure you that I am prepared to strengthen the relationship between our two countries.’’

The President also thanked the UK government for the support on security and the fight against insurgency in the North Eastern part of Nigeria, as well as the improved trade relations between both countries.

‘‘I am very grateful to the British government under your leadership for the help in security, particularly your training team that is in our institution in Kaduna,’’ he said.

Earlier, in remarks before the bilateral meeting, the Nigerian leader underscored the need for UK support on reviving of Lake Chad, which is a means of livelihood for millions of people.

The President told the visiting Prime Minister that Europe and China were already conducting an in-depth study on recharging the Lake through inter-basin transfer from the Central African Republic.

In her remarks, Prime Minister May, who welcomed the assurance by the Nigerian government on credible elections in 2019, said she was pleased to be in Abuja to continue the ‘‘excellent discussions’’ she started with President Buhari in London in April, this year, particularly on security, trade, asset recovery and the fight against corruption.

‘‘Security and defence cooperation are very important steps to address Boko Haram and Islamic State in West Africa,’’ May said.

On asset recovery, the Prime Minister told President Buhari: ‘‘we do not want to hold anything that belongs to Nigeria people, but we follow the judicial process, which can be slow.’’

The Prime Minister appealed to President Buhari to use his position as ECOWAS Chair to keep the issue of human trafficking on the front burner in the sub-region.

President Buhari and Prime Minister May witnessed the signing of two agreements: Security and Defence Partnership and Economic Development Forum Agreement.
