Stella Oduah - Crash Is An Act Of God (Viceo) by Tolexander: 5:44am On Oct 08, 2013 |
Aviation Minister, Stella Odua, while addressing journalists regarding the withdrawal of Dana Airlines' operating license, described plane crashes as 'an act of God'. “We do not pray for accidents but they are inevitable. But we will continue to do everything to ensure that we do not have accidents. But an accident is an act of God. “Again, we do not speculate on the cause of accidents. Until they happen, you cannot say this is the cause or that is not the cause. But what is obvious and is the truth is that, in aviation, there are shared responsibilities, starting from the man that carries your luggage to the man that makes sure that your boarding pass is issued to you". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hgJflD1nRXU&feature=player_embedded |

Apart from the time a foreign airline ran into cows in Port Harcourt; we can't remember any foreign airline crashing in Nigeria or having near misses in recent times. There is a problem with the agency in charge of inspecting local airlines in Nigeria. Stella Oduah should be alive to her responsibilities. 13 Likes |

When you put a woman who only knows about spas and necklaces in charge of flying machines, you will get disgusting comments like these Anyway I'm not surprised, didn't her principal once say that terrorism is a global phenomenon and that it is perhaps Nigeria's turn? 50 Likes |

Inevitable Air Accident, right? Well, not for me in Jesus name. As inevitable as it is then you and your family must have a portion of this inevitable air accidents. Can't imagine this is coming from a minister of Aviation. She should be more concerned about how to build a strong aviation system in Nigeria and thereby reducing the inevitability of air accidents. Who doesn't know that death is inevitable but must air accidents be inevitable I see a level of low competency and professional misconduct from this low ebb minister. Abeg who made this mofo a minister She should be a minister in her kitchen cabinet. 6 Likes |

Tolexander:Ignorant people on this thread. First, you should learn not to quote people out of context. She clearly continued in the very next sentence: She said notwithstanding this reality, the Federal Government would continue to ensure there were no accidents. Since you must be spoon-fed, let me explain it to you. The Titanic, in its heyday, represented the best maritime technology could innovate, so much so that it's motto was "Not even God can sink it" It capsized, eventually, as we know. Kindly desist from painting Odua as insensitive. More importantly, do not quote people out of context. RIP to the victims of the accident once again. . 22 Likes |

The president also said after expending more than a quarter of our annual budget on security; " bombing is what we must Learn to live with". When are all these people going to accept simple responsibility for their failure? It is as if the only responsibility they know is selves enrichment. Very shameless! 2 Likes |

passion007:ignoramus on troll! To start with, why would she say the 'accident is God's will' in the first place? Of what use is God if his wish is evil(accident)? Boy, it is illogically irrelevant, to bring an early 20th century technology to late 20th century-early 21st century for comparison. 22 Likes |

passion007: Your argument is non sequitur, how can it be inevitable yet government want to forestall the inevitability. The minister is just trying to hide under force majeure defence which can never fly. It is even infantile trying to defend herself before the allegation is even made. This madam minister should just throw in the tower and let competent people come on board. Can you imagine telling people accident is a must in nigeria airspace, this will scare off the whole world. Almost tempted to call her corn for brain. 19 Likes |

Tolexander: ignoramus on troll! To start with, what you have in quotes up there is Orisun editor's understanding of what the Minister said. She said accidents are an act of God (a phrase that refers to the occurrence of accidents despite preparedness) or a force majeure as Sterling pointed out, not that an accident is God's will (which is different and sounds crazy). @Sterling: I can't argue with that. Her logic is skewed, no doubt. The sequence makes it appear so. It sounds safer that FG attempts to avoid accidents at all costs, yet recognizes their influence may not be completely effective aka that acts of God could topple their plans I had to address Tolexander who is keen on making her appear insensitive. Finally, we don't even have any evidence this accident was due to human error, so let's wait for the results of the inquiry before doling out blame. 3 Likes |

Yea agreed, her saying that Accidents were inevitable is pretty insensitive, esp to d loved ones of d victims of these mishaps. True, but Insensitive. It was this same lie we peddle even after our plane crashed in a Ghanaian airport. We've had enough of foreign agencies giving us false claim about our country. Was it not another foreign body, World Bank/IMF with their agent, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, that tell us our economy is doing well when in reality it is nose diving? 1 Like |

To think that a one time Minister of Aviation's dead body was invovled in an air crash that killed not less than 14, and the current Minister of Aviation is rapping that air crash is inevitable and an act of God is ridiculous. How I wish we can read Agagu's comments after plane crashes while he was the Aviation Minister for this current minister to learn and know that tommorrow is pregnant and that we should be careful about what we say especially to those that are mourning. 1 Like |

Tolexander: ignoramus on troll! Haven't you heard the saying that God's ways are not that of man's? God can use such accidents to teach some lessons or achieve something. Anyway, this is not an excuse for not sanitizing our Aviation sector. |

But who hired god to pilot a plane? god can write on stones, impregnate virgins and stuff but when it comes to technology he's useless. Let this be a lesson for other airline companies. Hire trained pilots instead of god. 3 Likes |

She never actually used the word "inevitable", τ̣̣ђat's Ђσω the editor chose to caption it. She called it an "act of God" which connote a situation τ̣̣ђat iڰ out of human hands, aπϑ beyond our control. Let's wait for the preliminary report to come in before we start condemning her. The plane was old aπϑ rickety which could be a factor, but we've also seen brand new vehicles run into trouble even on their first trip. |

Such a comment coming from an Honorable minister of the federal republic of Nigeria clearly goes to show how much knowledge she has on the job thrown at her laps. It also shows her mindset, endorsing accidents while doing too little or nothing to prevent their occurrence since" they are acts of God". Those still flying within this country are obviously on their own. |
