Stella Oduah has implicated herself and should face her punishment like every public servant caught stealing. She should give account of why such an amount of money was used for just 2 cars. Period.

Good. Where those cars in the budget of the aviation ministry? After some chaps will be crucifying ASUU.

gods I: Mr addled brain, under whose leadership did the highest plane crash occure? And under whose leadership of this same ministry did the highest recorded aircrash related mortality occure? Did you have any idea how much they accrue in fiscal cash or how they spent it? What great innovations did they facilitate then compare to now? How public was their appointments to help us determine their un-tribalist consideration? Since the inception of the aviation ministry, what tribe are the most dominant in heading the ministry? Why so much focus on this one? Yorubas! The greatest enemies of Igbos. I must support igbos in this case.

nonsense. This isn't about tribe. Its about good leadership, accountability and social/national responsibility. Everything isn't about who is there and who was there or which tribe. And to your question about why the interest in job? Nigerians got wiser and grew less afraid. We need the right attitude to move forward as a people. We actually need to do better.

Authority Stealing

Nigeria - what a country.

A country which has the worst Human Development Index of all Oil producing countries; a minister spends such an amount on two cars.

And many would have died today unnecessarily.

It is because of his tolerance for corruption that i will definately not vote for him come 2015. He should be seen as intolerant of corrupt government officials.

Jonathan himself said it is not corruption hindering the country progress.

thrugemaster: The Ministry of Aviation has confirmed that the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority bought two bulletproof vehicles worth $1.6m (N255m) for the Minister of Aviation, Ms. Stella Oduah.

An online news medium, SaharaReporters, had reported on Tuesday that the armoured vehicles were delivered to the minister in August.

The medium reported that documents in its
possession showed that the transaction for the purchase of the two BMW cars started in June, but the request for the delivery of and payment

From the onset, some of us believed there must be an atom of truth in the whole bullet proof vehicle scandal. Now that it has been a confirmed rumour, the honourable thing for the minister to do is to resign. President Jonathan must as a matter of fact be ready to fire Mrs Stella Oduah as minister if eventually she fails to resign in the next one or two weeks. For the minister to say that air accidents are acts of God simply tells us she is incompetent, irresponsible, irritating & of no value to the present administration.

for them was fast-tracked between August 13 and 15, 2013.

The transaction involved the NCAA, First Bank of Nigeria, and Coscharis Motors Limited, according to the report.

The two black BMW 760 Li HSS vehicles had chasis numbers WBAHP41050DW68032 and WBAHP41010DW68044, and were reportedly delivered to the NCAA on August 13, 2013. They were received by two store managers, F. Onoabhagbe and Y. A. Amzat, who is also the agency’s head of transport.

However, the Special Assistant (Media) to the Minister of Aviation, Mr. Joe Obi, who confirmed the development on Wednesday, said the vehicles were purchased to protect the minister from some external threats.

He said in a telephone conversation with our correspondent, “Yes, it is true that some security vehicles were procured for the use of the office of the honourable minister in response to the clear and imminent threat to her personal security and life following the bold steps she took to reposition the sector.

“When she came on board as the minister, she inherited a lot of baggage in terms of the concession and lease agreements in the sector, which were clearly not in the interest of the government and people of Nigeria.

“And so, she took bold steps and some of these agreements were reviewed and some were terminated, and these moves disturbed some entrenched interests in the sector, and within this period, she began to receive some imminent threats to her life; therefore, the need for the vehicles.

“It should be noted that these vehicles are not personal vehicles and were not procured in the name of the honourable minister; they are utility vehicles and are for the office of the minister, and if she leaves the office, she will not be taking the vehicles along with her.”

On his part, the spokesperson for the NCAA, Mr. Fan Ndubuike, feigned ignorance of the development.

“I am not aware of anything like that,” he told our correspondent at 8.05pm on Wednesday.

The NCAA is the agency charged with ensuring the airworthiness of commercial planes flying within the country’s airspace.

The agency has been under fire lately over a series of mishaps and near crashes involving planes being operated by domestic airlines that were certified fit for flight operations by the NCAA.

There have also been rumours that the NCAA does not have enough funds to upgrade its equipment, send its employees for critical training and hire enough qualified hands, while questions are also being raised by industry watchers on the ability of the cash-strapped agency to procure such expensive vehicles.

However, the Director-General, NCAA, Capt. Fola Akinkuotu, had on Monday denied the claims of being cash-strapped, saying that the agency was buoyant.

He said, “We are not broke, we have been carrying out all our responsibilities and have been undertaking the training of our staff as and when due.

“I can tell you that right now, some of our staff members are undergoing training abroad and we still have others that are waiting for approval; we do not joke with training here and I challenge anyone to come up with anything otherwise to that effect.”

Meanwhile, two major air crashes have occurred under Oduah’s watch

There are millions of civil servants in Nigeria. many of the Nairalanders here even have parents that are civil servants. Many are 100% honest. Akunyili did a decent job in her turn as the NAFDAC DG but to turn around and claim she is the 'most honest' is sheer sycophancy.

If I were you, i would be very hesitant to bring up her thoroughly lacklustre performance as a 'politician'. We're still scratching our heads about what became of the N8b or so reserved for HD equipment for NTA during one of the Youth world cups held in Naija. Posterity will judge her harshly for the billions wasted in the brainless 'rebranding' campaign that even a toddler could have told her was destined for failure.

Totally agree with you. Akunyili of NAFDAC was a darling. A committed, competent and diligent compatriot. She was not a saint though but whatever shortcoming she had at NAFDAC were quite negligible compared to the sterling performance she put up. She excelled partly because of her background, she was on familiar terrain.

Akunyili of Information Ministry was totally different from that of NAFDAC. She perhaps intentionally worked her ways into main stream politics and some have said it was out of greed. Whatever the reason, she ought to have known better that you cannot court and dine with the ''dogs'' without eating ''excreta''. The moment she took the Information job, discerning eyes could see she was done-for. I could still remember her body language when she was talking about ''rebranding Nigeria''. A pupil of marketing communications could easily see that she was talking about a concept she completely does not understand and so did not have a grasp of. Her ignorance of rebranding was palpable and quite obvious. To me, her only achievement was her bold stand that VP Jonathan should take over fully from the ailing President Yar'adua. Perhaps it may have been another story if it were a familiar portfolio like Health but information.... And then, she wanted to become governor etc. etc. etc. Human beings with insatiable urge for mundane things. May be she was just being human after all.

You can imagine her returning to the classrooms or even venturing into other areas and not politics at the end of her golden NAFDAC era with such monumental accolades, awards, respect, admiration, cheers etc from far and near!

we know some media houses from the SW part of the country are doing everything to pull this woman down, all because the aviation ministry has been taken over by the easterners. but when fani-kayode erroded the aviation industry with his SW brothers and sisters, we did not hear any rotten stories that was going on inside the ministry then.
Na GOD put her there and it is only GOD that can remove her, not media propaganda by the SW

Nna, mechie onugi, STFU. Must you spray faeces all over you because your neighbour does it? Must you be an armed robber because your enemy is one and nobody speaks against it? Can you not make up your mind to be a better person at all times irrespective of the wrong others do and get away with? How foolish and immature it sounds to do the wrong things because others do them too! How we become part of the correction if we all copy the wrong things. Above all, if Igbo tribe matters a lot to you, why not aim at making it a tribe to be respected through and through? Consider concentrating on not having specks in your eyes at all.

Stella knows now she is just a LIABILTY to ministry of aviation & GEJ and they will not listen to a tout spewing nonsense, they are wiser than you think....experience they say is the best teacher not your graveyard words above, words spewed without thinking. God sees all thieves but each has his/her day of reckoning. Stella, this is now "An Act Of God".

Is that not a similar argument we heard when Jim Nwobodo took the Generators that were bought for the national stadium after the Junior world cup?

More importantly, why did the same office deny this just a few days ago?

There are about 40 ministers in the cabinet. If all of them go this way of 255million it will amount to 10.2billion.

The 450 (approximate) National assembly members going for the 800,000 dollars cars @ one each will amount to 59billion naira.

State governors, deputies, Special assistants in presidency, and state commissioners approximately (600) @ 800,000 = 78.7 billion. The 774 LG chairmen going for one each = 102 billion

summary. 10.2 + 59 +78.7 + 102 billion = 248.9billion

this is more than the annual budget of more than 80% of most states in Nigeria. This is what corruption has been doing. You might say at least they haven't bought it, but I can tell you convincingly that this is how it starts and it leads to competition among politicians. Just see the trend of private jet now. if you don't have one you don't belong. They are milking this nation dangerously. It is well,
