Sorry I'm responding quite late...Well..how i felt. First I just wanted to run a test for my genotype and i just felt I should go on with the HIV test too. It wasnt planned and the results wasn't wasnt what i expected. Normally I felt bad but then I motivate myself and move on. I still have a whole lot to accomplish and I felt there's nothing stopping me from reaching my full potentials. People react to things differently though. I wasn't sick after I realized but won't deny the fact that I woke up every morning consistently for about a week hoping it was a dream. But then I've moved on and I'm doing my bit to encourage others to stay strong. How're you doing friend?

During my I.T in a medical lab this year i was exposed to the HIV virus in the lab while collecting a patient's blood sample. I was placed on one month post exposure prophylaxis so as to kill of the virus before it undergoes seroconversion. The process is said to be largely effective though in certain isolated cases, the virus still resists the drugs. I finished the one month drug course in september and have gone for testing twice which came out negative. By february next year, that is 6 months after i was exposed, i will know whether i'm actually negative to the virus.
Meanwhile, i must confess that i'm presently kinda afraid cos i easily have headaches and some other abnormalies i seldom experienced before the exposure.
When i was on the ART drugs however, i read a lot about HIV and how its managed and i think i know better now. Hopefully, come february i'll be sure of my status but whatever be the case i have come to realise that the fastest thing that causes death due to HIV is stigmatization . We need to end stigmatization if we hope to defeat HIV.

I know it has been a long time since since you wrote this but how far with the result?

AnOlderAmerican:
If there is a chance that you have been exposed to HIV, it is important to be tested.

Symptoms are not a reliable way to diagnose HIV infection. Testing is the only way to be certain of your HIV status.

Most people who have been recently infected with HIV do not have any signs or symptoms. If there is a chance that you have been exposed to HIV, it is important to be tested. If you find out that you are HIV negative, you can do things to protect yourself. If you find out that you are HIV positive, you can do things to protect others. You can also talk with your healthcare provider about HIV treatment to help control the virus and help keep your immune system strong.

As HIV advances, the symptoms can worsen

Over time, more severe symptoms may appear and get worse.
Left untreated, HIV will usually turn into AIDS in about 10 years.
By the time AIDS develops, the immune system has been badly damaged.

Also, illnesses that would not bother a person with a healthy immune system may happen.

These are called opportunistic diseases.

The signs and symptoms of some of these AIDS-related illnesses may include:

Swollen lymph glands
Diarrhea that is frequent or ongoing
Frequent high fevers (over 100°F)
Shaking chillsSoaking night sweats
Cough
Shortness of breath
Unplanned or rapid weight loss
Feeling very tired
White spots or sores on your tongue or in your mouth that do not go away
Headaches
Blurred and distorted vision
Skin rashes or bumps

Left untreated, HIV will weaken your immune system and may affect other vital organs and systems. HIV treatment may help reduce the risk of damage to your immune system and vital organs by reducing HIV-related inflammation.«

HIV BASICS
have being having white spot on my tongue for quite some time that wont go away and i went to d hospital to conduct hiv test and it was negative and i did d hiv test like 8 times within the first 9 weeks of my last sexual encounter came back all negative in three different hospitals.
due to my lack of rest of mind i rushed to the laboratory to conduct a oral swab test and i was told to co!e back for the result after 4 days and after d 4th day d doctor said it was said to be streptococcus
let me now share my sexual encounter
when i came back from school earlier this year i decided to have sex with my long time girlfriend cos i wanted her to be the first girl im going to have sex with so i invited her to my house but i only had like three seconds sex with her(i only put my penis in her vagina and i removed it cos i was afraid) but the second day i started feeling severe pain during urination i rushed to the chemist and i was given some antibiotic which i used for 10 days after d tenth day my conscience wont let me be so i rushed down to the laboratory to tell them what happened to me abt d pain during urination and i was told to do urine test to check for std i did d test but it all came back negative....i dont know what came over me after some days i started checking for hiv symptoms so i saw dis white patches on tongue so i went to d mirror to check mine alas d white patches was on my tongue but (note dat have never brush my tongue before) i rushed to the hospital to do d hiv test came back negative but d person who conducted d test was acting somehow so i rushed to another hospital to do another one non-reactive,and d doctor said how many weeks is it since i had d sex i told him 8 weeks but when i told him i only have like 4 seconds sex d doctor was laughing at me so when it was exactly 90 days i went to a military hospital to complain about the white tongue and i lied to her dat d first hospital i went to said it is oral thrush so she directed me to d laboratory to do d hiv test i was so afraid during the test but it came back negative so the woman said i should always brush my tongue everytime that it is as a result of poor oral hygiene
my question is with all this test should i still do another hiv test cos i did both the antigen and antibody test within this 90 days?
with this seconds of sex i had and the hiv test in the first three month cos d doctor said if it is hiv it would have shown by now whatz d assurance it is hiv and not showing cos im really confuse
That was my first sex and it only lasted for few seconds not up to a minute please whatz d probability it is hiv
within the three month i did the test in three different hospital one in a military hospital cos i live close to the barracks

I want to tell her, but neva in my life have i been extremely scared of what her reaction will be. I have already come to terms within me that she ll definitely refuse evn tho my viral load in undectable, what i am really scared of is loosing her friendship as well.
