please u guys should be pragmatic! !!

How can a person who claims to have visited asokoro claim 1 in 30 houses is empty,?

... and to you: does it mean that if there are empty houses in aso drive, the whole abj has empty houses?

For the umpteenth tym, All cities in the world have empty/overpriced houses/ estates. abuja is just an example.

and it doesn't mean ALL HOUSES IN ABJ ARE OVERPRICED/DESRTED

No be me talk 1 in 30 o... Shoo!!

I actually saw that a few houses were not occupied.. That's all. But that area cannot be sold nor rented for cheap either.
Re: Abuja - A City Of Empty Houses by AMADU77: 10:40pm On Jan 04, 2014
my experience in the field is that : well managed clean estates r always full

the problem is greedy investors, they build houses very close to each other no parking space, no garden, no space for children to play

they use very cheap building material, cheap doors, silly kitchen, silly toilets, small rooms rough tiles, cheap paints, very low level local engineering, almost no infrastructure in d estate

no lights and no management to control generators, i know som1 who wanna buy Generator to make his small estate 24 hrs lyt !! he $tupidly decided to buy 250kva !! consuming about 45 litters/hours !! he didn't listen to my advice n calculation to have 135kva for evening n 60kva for day n after midnight !! after 3 months the service charge money was burned out !! and the estate become dark full of small petrol engine n smoke n noise

and..... on top of all this failure all owners ask for renting prices as if it is London or new york!! 1.5M for 1 room inside town !! fk them all , Kubwa is very nice place n food is cheaper there grin

Look, I do not need to go on arguing with you. This is my area and I have no intention of bad-mouthing it, but the fact is the fact. So I'll pardon you cos it's obvious you know nothing about what you speak.

Like I said before, unlike you who was just a passerby here, I have been here for 13 good years of my life. My family houses are still here. My church is here, I still keep an office suite at Asokoro shopping mall and all. So there is no point arguing with an outsider.

Well I wouldn't want you to call me out on that one, as I flew back into Abuja to see a lot of changes and more empty mansions. A lot of demolition along kpuduma and more construction work going on, so there's no way I'd know the owners of these projects but I was only trying to show him how rooted I am around here and still the fact is the fact. Even worse off, we have more empty mansions than before
Sure, I couldn't agree more. Lots of mansion are empty in Asokoro. #Fact, #TrueTalk

After Asokoro I lived in an estate in Garki and was favoured to be the care-taker. This was owned by a former Rep.and you can imagine how caome an ordinary Rep.was able to won so many houses.
The most anoying part of it is that they always disturb for money not even going through the ladi down procedure : Girlfriend want nails done, its a call for money.
A new car is to increase the rentage
These men are so greedy that even the 5percent I am suppose to enjoy as care-taker grin they will somehow outwit me by threatening tenants/would be occupant to give them all monies that they are the owners of the house.
How will their houses not be empty, even my apartment I left 2years ago I learnt is still empty, when greed and corruption become friends this is what they give birth to.

Look my friend the corruption statistics that has been exposed to us by social/mass medium is like a thousandth times less that it actually is in Nigeria.
I was born into politics and use to help with the Ghana-must-go back state but when I got to Abuja I was jaw-dropped-shocked at the extent of the plunder.
Most of those houses you see in the inner circle of Abuja metropolis is owned by very few people, and are corrupt and been investigated by the efcc or icpc the reason for their emptiness.

Me thinks and believe those owners don't have peace and are very far away from the arms of the law. We need to start asking questions, I meant the right one not just waht we are doing on NL fighting ourselves when our true opponents are out there commiting more havoc to our futures. undecided

Then I begin to wonder.....did you enter these houses one after the other to confirm they are empty?
Oh, I get: a "There's no one living here" tag was attached to each of them

Rubbi/sh topic.

The only places in Abuja with empty houses are the developing districts like Gwarimpa, Durumi and few others that are still under development. Come to the Wuse districts and see life tongue. Or go to other developed and bubbling residential areas like Garki area 2, Maitama et al and check if the buildings are empty.

Empty buildings ni kan ko.

Not every American lives in Washington DC cos of the high cost of living. If una want affordable homes you know where to get them. Don't come and overcrowd Abuja, cos the last thing I want for my life now is STRESS grin and Lagos gives loads of it grin. Don't turn Abuja to another Lagos. TENK angry

Very few people live in the inner circle of Abuja, if you want to really know this drive around on a sat.or say sunday ; the town is what in geography is called sparsely populated. Just gov.buildings and offices every-where.

Op, u asked your auntie who owned the seemingly empty houses and was the response?
Abuja city is made up of 4 towns unlike lagos that is so developed. Abuja city is all about wuse, garki, maitama and asokoro. Then neighboring places like wuye, utako, jabi, apo and gudu. I live in jabi, 1 bedroom flat 1.2 million naira annually, when my colleage in kano in a 5 bedroom duplex pays 400k. House rents in abuja city are so extremely costly. Buying land to build house is worse, fraudsters all over.
Rents in abuja are the highest all over the whole world.

Well like I said before, I won't argue with you. But here is a recent personal occurrence from which, I believe you could get enlightened.

I flew into Abuja few days before Xmas only to find some dudes living comfortably in one of my family properties. They were shocked to their bones to see me. You can tell they knew what they were doing was illegal from the look on their faces. I kept my cool and told them I give them 24 hours to evacuate the building or I'll have them arrested which they did.

2 days fast forward, I revisited the issue and summoned the man in charge of the building, well as expected he feigned ignorance and put the blame on the gateman and immediately fired him.

I wasn't there for that kinda scene, so it didn't really bother me. But just this last Sunday, I was in church chatting around with some old friends, then I raised the topic, narrated the whole charade, to my surprise, they all laughed and went on to say 'na normal thing bro. Oh you've not around. It's a common practice among the gatemen in the area now'. I felt so 'old school'.

So what am I trying to show you from this? Asokoro mansions are so empty to the extent that gatemen sees that as an avenue to enrich themselves. Oh did I add the part where I learnt that these dudes pays as much as N400k? And there is a mutual understanding between the gatemen and the illegal occupants that the real owner may show up anytime and money is non refundable? It's almost an industry on its own in Asokoro now.

So because we have so many 'arrangee' occupants in the district does not make Asokoro less empty. I guess you may need to call your acquaintances around here to confirm that. Despite all these, majority of the houses are still empty.

lynpetra: It's really pathetic to listen to the tales of homeless people in Abuja. Some complain bitterly of how scarce it is to get affordable homes here in the heart of the North.Such Irony! As my aunt drove me around this evening,I can't help to notice so many empty duplexes, bungalows, self contains,Block of flats around."Auntie all this houses na who them dey build am for?"I asked.Beautiful empty houses, several still under construction.Greed na bastard! An employed average Nigerian can never afford the price of only a Dog post in these houses!!Infact, who are those building this houses? Why build a house to leave it empty for years because no customer can pay the prize?Isn't it selfish, foolish and inhumanly wicked? Why not make it affordable as it is available? The only reason business isn't booming in Abuja is partly because plenty houses are empty,as a lot of youths live in places like Iyanya,Maraba,Kubwa, and the outskirts of Abuja.

I know our Govt system is made for the rich,we don't mean anything to them.Living in well built houses doesn't fit the average Nigerian. As they loot our money, every seconds of everyday, every minute of every hour, every day of every year, stealing big, dumping it here and there, hiding them by building so many Estates,Shopping Malls,Markets,Blocks of Flats,ALL FOR NOTHING!!!EMPTY AS THE YEARS GOES....They continue to hide this stolen money on properties and lands, some of which are taken by force from indigenes.....

Mmmh...God is watching.Still waiting for that revolution, surely it will come.It can only take time.
