I get your point Gamine. . . but the thread seems to have taken a standpoint on academic excellence as their criteria for measuring intelligence. For example I have a family friend who I was about two years of me when I entered uni, I left him there and he finished about two years after I left but he is well read and intelligently informed.

If for instance u met someone like him, and he caught your fancy, could hold and sustain your interest would you because of his lengthy stay in school or poor grades, or what your family and friends would think, say NO?
