@phoenixman

I totally agree, I think most Nigerian movies have weak storylines (especially yoruba movies), the dialogues are cheezy and sometimes u can predict the whole movie from the first scene.
Re: Do You Love Or Hate Nigerian Movies? by superman(m): 6:57pm On Jan 01, 2007
and may i ask why it is like that anyway

It's like that in "Nollywood" because the same people write the scripts, act and produce. Like Mr. Latin, Baba Suwe, e.t.c.
They write the scripts, act, and produce, and they are in almost every scene of the movie. And they don't posses any prior experience in producing or script writing. They should just stick to acting. You can never see Martin Scorcese, F. Gary Gary, or steven Spielberg in movie because they are producers, and thats what they were trained for. And you won't see Angelina Jolie, or Matt Damon producing either. because all they can do best is act.

Nollywood disgusts me,from that darn stupid name 'Nollywood' to the ultra-low output quality. All jacked off.Producers are greedy/stingy,directors are lazy, artistes dont learn from past mistakes, most of their scripts are wack, the make up artists dont know how to make anything but injuries up,they cant even make the artistes look good for the screen. Its all just way too jacked off & like I always tell my folks:it will take a while b4 I forgive Nollywood for their hideous crimes against entertainment.

I don't think I hate Nigerian movies. I don't love them thats for sure in fact I can't stand them but I don't think I hate them. There is a lot that is wrong with the way movies are made in Nigeria and many of these things are forgivable. Like lack of funding, lack of technical expertise etc but there is no reason why you should keep a shot where the actress obviously stumbles on her line. That is what pisses me off about the Nigerian movies; avoidable mistakes that shows a complete disregard for the audience.

So I think the first step in making Nigerian movies better is attention to detail and respect for the consumer.

@Owoayo, Mel Gibson was an actor before he directed 'Passion of the Christ', Tom Cruise produced 'Last Samurai', Zach Braff wrote, directed and stared in 'Garden State' and 'Open Hearts'. My point is, it is ok and in fact quite expected for people in the industry to go from one role to the other as long as they prepare themselves for the challenge. That is the major problem with our film industry (I refuse to call it Nollywood) lack of preparation.

Re: Do You Love Or Hate Nigerian Movies? by hooplarr(m): 2:49pm On Mar 14, 2007
I hate everything about Nigerian Movies.

The recycled artists, recycled story line, No moral lessons to learn and poor quality dialogues with no punch line.

It sucks. Just seeing the artist (Old Ones ) particularly clamouring for wishywashy movies is all so pathetic.

Take a cue from Foreign movies, The Nigerian Filmaker needs a lot to learn.

Re: Do You Love Or Hate Nigerian Movies? by debosky(m): 5:31pm On Apr 04, 2007
movies have been made for 70-80 years, 15 years is not that long

besides with the new studio - Studio Tinapa, better productions will start coming out soon.

I hate naija movie to d core, some of the so called nollywood actors and actresses over act their lines and pretend a lot, however there are many naija talented actors , talk about Joke Slivas ,Olu Jacobs,Gbenga Richards adefolalu thoes are my real actors, i will never spend a dime to buy a naija movie but will rather pirate them, nollywood ko nollywoon ni, damn it!

Nigerian movies are so sad and best summarized by Basketmouth in Nights of a thousand laughs.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VhEELfIl1ho

I think most (99.999%) are utter rubbish. No thought process put into the production at all. What they feed consumers are flimsy cheap DVDs called movies - no skills applied whatsoever to the process - there is no editing, no sound control, lighting, no storyline or something that totally sucks and they are always so repetitive and predictable.

The good news is that the Music Industry in Nigeria is different. We have talented people producing quality products - 2Face, pSquare, etc Bigups to you all.

Lexyhearts, so are u saying all foreign movies are pornos?
Re: Do You Love Or Hate Nigerian Movies? by soulpatrol(f): 4:47pm On Jun 17, 2007
everytime i go to "onlinenigeria.com" to check out what new movies they have, i almost die of laughter  grin. as in the titles alone are something else! i mean come on, naija movie makers no even get sense anymore, they cant come up with decent names for their movies. just the name alone discourages me from watching it. abeg, which kin movies be the return of beyonce, tea or coffee (WTF?), royal insult, lonely pain, crossing love, stone love, no more love, only love, criminals in love, daytime lover, etc. i tire for this love love movies o  grin. these producers need to be more creative, haba! i can come up with better
Re: Do You Love Or Hate Nigerian Movies? by Lexyhearts(f): 5:15pm On Jun 17, 2007
@ PO DEEP

WHO SAYS FOREIGN MOVIES ARE PORN,IT WAS JUST AN EXAMPLE SO U CAN NOW ANSWER THE QUESTION COZ U DIDN'T .ARE U EMPLOYED TO FOLLOW OTHER PEOPLE'S MISTAKES grin grin grin grin ANSWER E QUESTION THATS ALL tongue
Re: Do You Love Or Hate Nigerian Movies? by PoDeep(m): 6:43pm On Jun 17, 2007
Lexyhearts,
1. Ur choice of example is faulty. Pornos are too far from d hollywood mainstream to be sited as an example. Assuming ur question was "What do u gain from violence/nudity(not porn)/and other vulgar attributes of hollywood?", It would have been better. Porn movie production can be related to Africa too, including Nigeria. So like I said, that was an inappropriate example.
2. The answer to ur question is simple. Nothing positive is actually gained from porn, obviously.
3. At d topic, to be innovative, there is supposed to be a limit to copy-catting which Nollywood does not recognise. The name 'nollywood' itself testifies to this fact. I would say a lot more but I don't think it would do d industry any better.
