Akpabio spent money billions to 'wow' everybody in the world that he is the best! He has laid no foundation in terms of planning for the next government! There are no jobs in Akwa Ibom no argument about that! Education is zero, one teacher to 700 students in government secondary schools, after seven years of 'uncommon transformation' there is sadly no 'world class' health facility in the state!

Akpabio and his paid internet warriors can continue their brainwashing of the gullible! Colourful pictures on the internet doesn't translate to having a state that is working!

It took a state seven years of 'uncommon transformation' to attract just one chemical plant to the state which seems political but let's see how it unfolds!

I'm use to seeing Nigeria so called leaders celebrating mediocrity but what was a little bit shocking was seeing 3 sitting African Presidents leaving their country to witness rubbish. They are jobless and obviously birds of the same feathers.
It was truly shocking indeed. I can't imagine Obama visiting South Canada for the sole purpose of attending the commissioning of a stadium.

thomasthomas:
Probably no stadium has ever been commissioned with so much fanfare, and at such obviously stupendous cost, as the Akwa Ibom International Stadium, recently declared open by President Goodluck Jonathan in Uyo, the state capital. And possibly, none might ever be.

With three sitting, and at least one former, African Presidents (Nigeria, Ghana, Cote d'Ivoire) in attendance, along with the National Chairman and other top officials of the People's Democratic Party, state governors, ministers, the cream of Nollywood, active and retired footballers, including Pele himself, international media personalities and sundry social (and political) climbers, Governor Godswill Akpabio clearly OUTDID himself with the sheer extravagance of the event. It seemed as if the man was hosting the opening ceremony of the finals of the World Cupitself! Or the Olympics.

The stadium and its noisy commissioning are part of the Akpabio style of governance; one he has consciously deployed from his first day in office: overpriced, showy projects that can be promoted in the noisiest possible manner as evidence of transformation to the gullible but which adds little or nothing to the lives of ordinary Akwa Ibom people. Does anyone remember the first-in-Africa underground pipe jacket drainage system or the last time Uyo failed to flood with just few minutes of rainfall? Besides the president said it at the commissioning of the stadium that there is no flood again in Uyo. A laughable and a clueless talk from the president. How about the e-library, the most expensive cyber cafe in the world which, as this is written has not worked as advertised for even one day. A trip to the place on week days shows there is no light and the reading areas are always dark and hot.

Why would a government that has so far failed in seven years of trying to complete a hospital project, expend so much of its time, energy and people's scarce resources, on a one day stadium commissioning event costing N3.5bn of tax payers money. In Uyo the state capital, there is no general hospital worth the name and the said hospital project is not for the people of Uyo but to serve the purpose of the so-called 'medical tourism'.

Why should it take seven years to build the specialist hospital in Itam, Akpabio's very own first major project? Why is it that so far, its advertised cost of 37 billion Naira, the Tropicana entertainment complex is yet to be completed. Will it ever be completed? Why is the government subsidizing the cinema part of the complex; paying Silverbird to run the place at less than the going commercial rate that it charges in Lagos, Port Harcourt and Abuja? Can any sane man defend the fact that in a poor yet very rich place like Akwa Ibom, the achievement of the basic MDGs is still a dream, yet the state government is subsidizing cinema entrance tickets.

Back to the stadium, comparatively, The bird's nest in China has a capacity for 91, 000 spectators and boasts of 140 5 star executive suites. But more importantly, it costs the Chinese government and taxpayers the total sum of 423 million USD or equivalent of 70 billion Naira to build the Bird's Nest Stadium in Beijing.

In Akwa Ibom State, the 'transformational' government of Godswill Akpabio unabashedly used about 480 million USD or approximately 80 million Naira of the commonwealth of Akwa Ibom people to construct a less-than 40, 000 capacity stadium . The Akwa Ibom stadium does not have many of the hi-tech quality facilities that the Chinese Bird's Nest Stadium has and there isn't a single executive suite!

Godswill Akpabio can fool some of the people, including President Jonathan some, or even most, of the time but he cannot fool all of us, forever. Someday, somehow, the truth will be out!

$12.5 billion that Babangida stole could give Nigeria 37 of this stadium.
$16 billion dollars Obasanjo stole could have given the whole West Africa 40 of this stadium
$7 billion dollars Abacha stole could have given Nigeria 17 of this stadium.

Akpabio chose to use the money to develop his state rather than steal it as you would prefer.

1. This is how you ignorant people fail WAEC. The thread remains about Akpabio. Only unintelligent people with lack of anything sensible to contribute leaves topic to latch on to irrelevant nonsense..

2. If you are going to defend the crook, at least list the so called world class projects? Are they hospitals that he didn't build, are they schools that he didn't build or one football field = world class projects..

3. You mind telling us why he ported his own family to Lagos/APC state instead of keeping them in his transformed world class infrastructure Akwa Ibom?

4. There is nothing world class about a 30,000 capacity non FIFA regulation football field called stadium. Amaechi build a larger FIFA regulation stadium and even sports complex, hospitals, housing estates, schools, roads, bridges, flyovers, skills centers mono rail.....

Ode, the 8MW plant guarantees uninterrupted powers supplies to hospitals, schools, roads, bridges and state institutions.

How many hospitals or any structure in Akwa Ibom gets uninterrupted power supply or even any in Nigeria? Oh, I forgot the incompetent clown and crook the not build any hospital so no hospital to power 24/7....

You clowns just blab 8MW all over the place with zero understanding per their strategic and specific importance and use..

They run their mouth about world class projects, but they hit a road block and start dancing when you ask them to list their invisible world class projects... Do you clowns really think we are stupid and don't know how many projects he dabbled into.

1. Tropicana = Uncompleted after 8 years in office and N30 billion down the drain

2. Hospital = Uncompleted

3. Some ridiculous tunel rubbish = Uncompleted

4. Library = Completed, but of no use because it's tolld. You have to pay to use it.

Completed projects= Few roads in Uyo and 1 stadium.

2012 - N397.1 bn

2013 - N470.1 + 100bn + 125bn(Supplementary Budget) = N695.1bn

This is how that crook loot Akwa Ibom. He'll pass his budget, spend the whole money in less than 6 months without doing anything, then quetly ask his rubber stamp legislature for extra supplemental billions..

Fools like you should go get a job. Being an internet goon for APC is not intellectually stimulating. I have a job and a family to run and i have to go to put my kids to bed i dont have time to respond to an APC paid to post goon.

Last weekend here in Los Angeles we gathered the Nigerian community at my house to watch the opening of Akwa Ibom Stadium , it was so refreshing to see what Gov. Akpabio Has done in Akwa Ibom. We were all for once proud to be Nigerians and were proud to watch the soccer game in a stadium that is truly world class. as a result most of us, many who are not from Akwa Ibom, have decided to Add Akwa Ibom as our destination for this year vaction visit to Nigeria.
I will be at the stadium for the christmas carol event on the 20th dec. and a host of others are planning to be in uyo Stadium for the march 29th brazil vs Nigeria.
And i just read on this web page that getty image has gazetted The Akwa Ibom Stadium i will be taking my family to getty museum this weekend since its close to me to see those images at least it will be refreshing and different from the embarrassing images of the civil war and dirty/hungry people and streets that are usually on display about Nigeria.

Akpabio Has class and for us in Diaspora we appreciate that. APC should learn how to deliver quality infrastructure from Akpabio like the stadium which will bring people into the state and serve up Nigeria and Africa in goodlight, rather than buy bed for N50 million and commision a useless incomplete hospital building with nothing inside and no access road as Fayemi did. And for you go and offer valet service, sell popcorn or be an event official for event days at that stadium, thats a more honest way to make a living than to play internet tout on nairaland, good night.

If you think you can fool us Nigerians about the situation of things you are wrong we watch all the videos about akwa ibom here https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=UU44hqJiIK_HYYflwAkOqAQQ and on the state website so we know the true situation of things, and besides all the people that come home from Nigeria all attest that its happening in Akwa Ibom.

What's this dumb and unintelligent essay got to do with the fact that akpabio spent his state broke and all he has to show for 8 years in office and the largest budget in Nigeria is 1 football pitch and a few roads in Uyo?

What is a quality structure anyway? A football pitch with net scaffolding? A football pitch less than FIFA regulated 40,000 capacity? Amaechi is building a sports complex with Olympic size swimming pool, law tennis court, basketball court and so on.. And he still mannged to build hospitals, dozens of health centers, dozen of schools and skills centers..

Akwa Ibom State Government has said it may not be able to pay contractors for new projects because the projected revenue of over N400 billion expected by the state has not been realised.

The state Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mr. Aniekan Umanah, made the observation in reaction to the Federal Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) mid-year publication which showed that the state earned the highest revenue of N135.84 billion between January and June this year while Osun earned the least with N19.61 billion

Must you people dwell on other people and not the subject matter? If akpabio is a good man, then defend and highlight his achievements and what made him a good man.

Btw, with the largest budget in Nigeria at almost N600 billion akwa ibom is broke according to the state government while at the same time squandering billions on a common 30,000 seat football pitch. With 8 years in office and his huge budgets, the only completed project is this one football pitch apart from the few roads....so why not ask the good man what happened to the largest state budget in Nigeria..

The same fashola you are trying to put down bult many hospitals and 10 maternity centers, but akpabio did not build 1 single hospital and the only one he started is uncompleted after almost 8 years in office.

How long does it take to build one hospital? Even amaechi next door built many hospitals, some of the best schools in Nigeria and even a larger football stadium and sports complex.....

Btw, fashola is not your governor.. must you people lie just to sound relevant while spewing your rubbish?

A good economy in Akwaibom means improved household incomes, people have money to spend on healthcare, education and other necessities provided by investors attracted to the infrastructural leverage in the state. Thus quality of life is firmly established in the shortterm and longtterm..
