A good economy in Akwaibom means improved household incomes, people have money to spend on healthcare, education and other necessities provided by investors attracted to the infrastructural leverage in the state. Thus quality of life is firmly established in the shortterm and longtterm..

There's no economy in that crime infested village hence multi nationals like Exon mobile leaving and heading to Lagos..

The clown should have spent the largest budget in Nigeria on real and strategic infrastructure, safety and security.

The clown did not build a single school, he did not build a single hospital, he did not build a single skills center for manpower development..

Today, Akwa Ibom is broke and all you have to show is 1 football pitch..

We have been hearing this from 2007 and even in 2011, Governor Godswill Akpabio promised building 31 industries in the state, one per Local Government, today, there is no sight of even one. The happy Akwa Ibom family exist only on the internet on pictures posted by ujoinme grin grin grin grin grin

Akwa Ibom State for now is not investor friendly as any investor will have to pass through the Akpabio's family to make any investment that is why seven years after 'Uncommon Transformation', no genuine investor has made any investment and the Akpabio's family had long relocated to Lagos cheesy cheesy cheesy cheesy
That is your opinion and conjectures. What we neutral observers can see is a burgeoning state chokeful with a vast array of quality infrastructures that is not only businness conducive but commercially strategic which in the long run will only serve the people far better than any government welfarist intervention as you have in the north and south west...Give a man fish you only feed him a day, give a man a net with good road networks, world class economic facilities including air ports, seaports, stadiums, tourism, agriculture, factories etc hr can feed his family and umborn generations...

oya now lets start

education: (I rem watching the boss of Zenox when they commissioned E libraries in a lot of public schools in the state)
I have heard hil say several times that primary to secondary school education is totally free ( i cant confirm that right now because i dont have anybody schooling in such level again)

my very good friend Umoyo is studying in the UK today as a result of a scholarship he won (i have to confirm from him again cos back then he made me believe it was the governor and they were about 10 of them)

I know there is currently a state library that will be completed pretty soon..

I have seen and watch him commission many hospital projects

he once boasted to Soyinka during the south south economic forum that he has created over 40,000 jobs

the new completed stadium could not have bn a waste....

I have entered the taxis before

common i cant keep mentioning....

listen if you say more can be done, mehn how right you are

but to talk shit about this guy common man

you claim they spent too much in the opening ceremony of the stadium (common man)

You are probably not in Akwa ibom bro.

If you have been to Akwa ibom you will not spill this trash u posted here.

I have been in Akwa ibom for the past one year and I am yet to see a standard school/hospital build by this administration

Yes he has done well in terms of roads (Ikot Ikpene/Uyo) and some other part of town

Akpabio is a bragat so when he talked about 40k jobs I wonder whether in government house the jobs are created or he is counting the keke drivers or the roadside plantain sellers as part of the beneficiary of the job creation.

An average Akwa ibomite is Jobless/Poor despite the huge resources , 95% of the businesses in Aks is owned by outsiders (igbos & others)

You don't work in Mobil therefore you ain't privy to any information based on their movement but to humor you let us also take another perspective that mobil left the 'village' to 'city lagos' to take advantage of the modern facilites and infrastructural leverage Lagos has been renowned for, a scenario Akpabio is working furiously to change with excellent road networks, world class infrastructures,a proposed sea port etc...Lagos is being given a run for its money hence this Pull-Him-Down campaign.

Please, check out Delta State and compare! Akpabio is a saint, at least , you should be grateful that you even saw a stadium in the first place. Let the NFF "President ", Amaju Pinnick explain to Nigerians why a rat nest called the Warri "Stadium" has gulped billions of naira, just for renovation,a stadium that was not considered fit to host a junior World Cup match, all under his watch! How much does the Allianz Arena in Germany cost? Perhaps, he can't question his sister's husband, who used our state funds to buy the NFF Presidency for him, oops, sorry, bankrolled his NFF campaign at the Congress held in Warri!

This is a very interesting thread. I am particularly impressed by how the OP has resisted the multi-pronged attempts to reduce the thread to another banal APC vs PDP or Akpabio vs Fashola thread.

I wish this is how all threads on Nairaland go...hard facts vs hard facts.

Regarding the topic, sadly Akpabio is not alone in this subterfuge. Many of our governors are media superstars with very little real development that impact on the lives of the real people on ground...not those that live abroad and need to see glitzy images of their countries so they can "boast to their foreign friends."

The government at the federal level is no different. We continue to hold the short end of the stick while our demigod politicians continue to sell us hot air.

In this day and age pictures can tell loads of lies. My take on this, is the fact that Nigeria public officials treat public funds as some lottery they just won. Have you witnessed how most people that win lottery spend the money? I have seen one that bought 5 of the same model of a car in one go.
I know that some of you have opinion controlled by party affiliations, big man followership, hoping that following them will make them become big too.
Ask yourself this questions with a clear head and honestly supply the answer to yourself.
As an Akwa Ibom tax payer:
1. How does Akpabio nest benefit my family and grandparents in the village?
2. If Akwa Ibom citizens are to share $450m , how much will one person, average family get?
3. If Akwa Ibom people are given an option of a nest for Neymar and well equipped specialist hospitals in all the local government areas with a modern supporting land and air helicopter ambulance system, which one do you think they will choose?
4. Do you think drinking dirty water from 17th century method through borehole merit spending millions on a nest? How many people in Akwa Ibom can turn a tap now a get water running out? How many had treckked to a river this morning to fetch untreated water for consumption?
5. How much do you think stadiums like the Arsenal Emirates stadium cost and how much they target to make annually to cover the cost and make it economic viable?
6.How much does Akwa Ibom planned to make annually from the nest in order to recover the cost of the nest in the next 30 years before it looks out of date like most infrastructures?
7.If this millions of dollars is your personal money or family inheritance and your family hired and paid Akpabio good salary to look after the money for you and your family and he decided to use the whole cash to build the nest and spend another millions to gather African corrupt rulers to celebrate your money. Will you join the party or will sack and sue him for squandering your family inheritance?

The problem of most Nigerians is this mentality of not reasoning that public money that their politicians spend is actually their money and should get them mad whenever it's embezzled, squandered or wasted.

There is nothing wrong with building a stadium but it's a matter of priorities. In economic terms it is called the scale of preference. Where will a sane person put Akpabio nest on that scale of preference for Akwa Ibom citizens?
Ebola outbreak has shown how public money should be prioritized watching what has hit Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone.
In the modern world, Akpabio job will be to attract private investors to build the nest but which sensible investors will plug in $450m in Akwa Ibom in sports facilities and hopes to get his money back?
Akwa Ibom need good rural roads for farmers, interest free loan for farmers and fishing industries, quality utilities that works, modern schools at all levels, modern hospitals per every 10 miles, employees paid every 20th day of the month and not a stadium that add absolutely nothing to the life of ordinary citizens, except the inflated ego of the king.

Are you serious? Improved road networks bring many benefits for local communities in Akwa-Ibom. These include improved accessibility to social infrastructure (schools, churches and
health centres), increased access to education and health facilities and
improved social interaction and mobility.
These are important for social and
economic development for Akwa-Ibom, improved access
to markets through the reduction of
transport costs and improvement of the
marketability of perishable goods through timely and cheaper transportation for the people of Akwa-Ibom.

He cannot share money that doesn't belong to him. He can use the money to alleviate people out of poverty by providing social amenities that help people become self sufficient. It's called social welfare. Building stadium is the job private investors and public bodies like the football or athletic associations who sources their fund from private enterprise.
The new Wembley was not built with taxpayers money, the English FA who are independent of the government sort money through bank loans and paying it back through private business initiatives like friendly matches and music concerts.
Stop making public servants believe that public money is their personal cash they can spend however they wished.
But we have to ask members of the state assembly if they can go home and defend a budget that approved this sort of elephant project before the peasants that voted them into office to defend their interest?.

Any wise man that gives a full analysis of Akpabio's administration will end up ashamed of Akpabio. Flyover where tbere is no traffic, subsidizing cinema instead of education, little investment in education and youth enlightenment etc. A State as small as Akwa-Ibom earning so much money should have been a haven of sort or should have witnessed poverty reduction, reduction on outward migration, improved standard of living etc.

Primary Education is free in Akwa Ibom state and you claim education is not subsidized. the man is proactive in building fly over without waiting for traffick gridlock, encouraging tourism by promoting art is another form of turning the state to a destination point for business. it is better to encourage people that are commissioning real project instead of worshiping those whose phantom project are only on papers.

This is spot on! Brilliant, articulate and incisive! smiley

Are you serious? Improved road networks bring many benefits for local communities in Akwa-Ibom. These include improved accessibility to social infrastructure (schools, churches and
health centres), increased access to education and health facilities and
improved social interaction and mobility.
These are important for social and
economic development for Akwa-Ibom, improved access
to markets through the reduction of
transport costs and improvement of the
marketability of perishable goods through timely and cheaper transportation for the people of Akwa-Ibom.

You call assessibility job creation? How does having a network of roads equates job creation? Roads are important for assessibility but they do not guaranty job creation as seen in Akwa Ibom as according to the governor, he has constructed several kilometers of roads yet no job created as a result!

Is that so? Have you been to Rivers? Have you cared to visit the newly commissioned health facilities in Obolo east and Ita Lgas never mind others in the state?Instead of writing off Akpabio's milestones why don't you come clean as to what this is all about as regards your annoyance.…

Bro I am not an e warrior, I traverse the length and breadth of the country. I have been to Ika General Hospital, in fact the road ends there, the entrance is overgrown with weeds. The place is almost nearly shut because nurses and doctors are not always around!

Like I always say, the fantastic Akwa Ibom exist only on the internet! grin

Yes it is free on the internet! What are the standards? Schools with no laboratories, teaching aids, 1000 students to one teacher.

Let me ask you a question and please be honest with me. Can you send your child to any Akwa Ibom Primary or Secondary School? Yes or No? What are your reasons?
