Sha don't let it be too oily. Cook it, mix with the old stew then if you notice any diminishing, then you may now add the seasoning and warm. Mix it well so that the spices won't settle at the bottom of the pot.

Ishilove: 1one, since it is tin tomatoes you want to add, add a little water to the paste and fry it without letting it burn. Add one very small cube of maggi or whatever seasoning you use, a little salt and cook till done, then mix it with the old stew.

Note that you don't have to fry the paste for too long because tin tomatoes are already partly cooked to begin with. You may slice onions into the paste while cooking (my personal favourite)
