I am in the final (testing) phase of the development of a Fantasy Football website based entirely on the Nigerian Premier League. As with all such sites, the fantasy league is based on the performance of the players in the real league - in this case the Nigeria Premier League. This is the first site dedicated solely to the local league, developed by Nigerians for Nigerians. This site will be 100% free to use.

Obviously there are some challenges in making this a reality, most of these being informational, especially data from the NPL (e.g. all submitted players names for each season). I am currently working to contact the NPL concerning this.
Anyway - I believe we will solve the data issue, as I am currently working on this. At the moment though, I am looking to test the functionality of the site itself, and would like to invite anyone keen on being a part of this interesting venture.

Basically, volunteers would simply log in to the site, create their 'teams' and run a pseudo-league, testing all the components of the site.
Unfortunately, I cannot offer any sort of remuneration for this - I simply hope that in the spirit of promoting the beautiful game locally while having fun, a few people can volunteer to be part of this.

The site will kick off formally with the new 2010/2011 season.

If you are interested, please contact me at dubainaija@iname.com.

To the victors go the spoils,

Orji showers Enyimba players with cash rewards

•CHAMPIONS AGAIN: Enyimba lifted the Globacom Premier League trophy again in Aba on Wednesday.

Abia State governor Theodore Orji  made winning the Globacom Premier League title worth the while for Enyimba players as he showered the team with N5m with a promise to do more when he receives them officially in Umuahia.

Enyimba  last Wednesday at the Aba Township Stadium lifted the domestic title a record sixth time, to level with Rangers International of Enugu. The Aba side defeated Kano Pillars 2-1 in an entertaining game to claim  the league title, a feat that sent the whole of Aba into a frenzy.

Enyimba media officer Tonnex Chukwu was in ecstasy when Inside the Glo Premier League called him after Enyimba’s 2-1 victory. “We are have won the league title and once again we are back to the Champions League”, he said.

Enyimba chairman Felix Anyansi-Agwu described the feat as spectacular because many never expected Enyimba to lift the league title at the beginning of the season. And equally described the generosity of the governor as heart warming.

“We feel we have been able to accomplish something even when it was least expected. I know our fans have missed us and it is good to be back. We believe the Champions League is where we belong and this feat adds spice to this belief. We are happy to be back to the Champions League. We are also happy to have satisfied our fans. The kind of reactions from our fans both home and abroad  is very encouraging.

Governor Orji of Abia State has truly demonstrated that he loves sports and his support has been very encouraging. He gave the team N5m and he has promised the players and officials more when he receives them officially”, The former governor laid the foundation and I am happy the present governor is following the footsteps and that has really boosted the morale of both the players and officials of the team”, Anyansi said.

Enyimba went into the game needing just a draw to match Rangers, whose last triumph was in 1984, but it took until five minutes before the break for them to open the scores.

Pillars, hunting for only their second ever title, matched the five_time winners and threatened with record-breaking league scorer Ahmed Musa a constant danger.

“I must confess  Pillars  playedi very well,” Enyimba Media Officer Tonnex Chukwu admitted.

Warri Wolves reacts to Akpokona claims

Sunday, 11 July 2010
General Manager, Media Warri Wolves, Timi Ebikagboro has reacted to claims by former coach, Lawrence Akpokona that he dumped the team immediately after the last game against Sunshine Stars

"The management of Warri Wolves secured the services of Coach Lawrence Akpokona based on so many facts but most importantly based on the fact that he is a Deltan that it thaught they could work with to take the club to the next level.

When a coach is sacked all over the world reasons are given and as regards Coach Akpokona he was releieved of his appointment becouse indiscipline on his technical crew and on the part of the players.

While we do not want to join issues with Coach Akpokona we would like to keep the records straight, the facts are there for all to see as in the just concluded season Warri Wolves had six away draws and intrestingly the team conceded the equalisers in the dying minutes of the games, to compound issues Coach Akpokona in the mid-season signed 9 players but intrestingly he used only 2 of them in a handful of games making the club to spend millions of naira.

It is on record that the management of Warri Wolves is not and did not owe Coach Lwarence Akpokona any kobo as we paid him 60 percent of his sign-on fee the day he was employed while the remainder was paid when he was disengaged.

It must also be noted that Warri Wolves had a very condusive environment as the team were lodged in a hotel all through the season, he had an official car attached with a driver attached to him and he got all what he requested for.

As far as Warri Wolves is concerned there are certain things better left unsaid, as we wish him well in his future endeavours, but questions should be asked why he keeps being sacked from one club to the other, and as such appeal to him not to portray Warri Wolves as a bad club.

We also want to put on record that we met all his demands but wish to state regretably that he did not meet ours as the club finished 4th when he took over but ended 6th this season.

The management of Warri Wolves adds that it will not stop changing coaches until we get it right that is why it is on record that we normally sign one year contract with our coaches.

As an addition it is surprising to the Warri Wolves management that Coach Akpokona would be complaining of not having a condusive atmosphere to work as it is on record that he had well over 40 players in camp some he met some he added, as regards players and officials motivation it was unprecedented as they all got their sign-on fee in record time, salaries and bonuses as at when due.

Coach Akpokona gave his best but obviously his best was not good enough for the standard the management has for the team so he had to be shown the way out".

The 4 to be promoted clubs haven't been decided yet, they still have 2 games to go, but Crown of Ogbomosho has already claimed one of the 4 spots with 1 game at home and 1 away. Akwa, Bukola babes and also Insurance and the 3 clubs fighting for 1 spot from the Table B.

As for the Table A, i am not sure about the clubs on that list, but they are mostly the northern clubs.

Rangers to learn from mistakes

Saturday, 10 July 2010
Rangers of Enugu have assured supporters of the club that they will surely win a trophy next season because they will learn from the mistakes of last season.

Media Officer of the side, Foster Chime told www.npl.com.ng that the management will correct all the mistakes from last season because they are tired of not winning any trophy in the past 27 years.

"We did our best last season, but it was obvious we made some mistakes. Those mistakes will help us next season when I am sure we are going to contest for the League title.

"We are going to start preparation early for the coming season and the management will get everything ready before the start of the new season so that nothing will derail our plans.

"But I am confident that Rangers will break that jinx of not winning any trophy for along time next season," Chime boasted.

in 1A, JUTH needs one more win to clinch promotion.
The other slot will be between FC Abuja, Mighty Jets, Plateau Utd and Dabo Babes(Kano?).
There are a lot of games left because they are playing catch-up with Nasarawa United missing so many games.

this is actually the first 1A table I've seen in years (and it's still missing Jigawa Golden Stars)
From what I've pieced together from newspapers, Nasarawa is playing two, three games a week to catch up. Although they started well they will surely be relegated from fatigue after trying to squeeze 20 games in six weeks. Surely some of our Naija brothers near Jos Kano and Abuja can let us know what the league is up to?
but since the training for the new season begins middle of August, we will know the new teams soon

The 2009/2010 National Amateur League Play-off Competition into Division Three has begun in eight centres across the country with teams from the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory participating.

The Secretary of the National Amateur League Unit of the Nigeria Football Federation, Emmanuel Adesanya, said the competition, which kicked off on Saturday in Abuja, had been very interesting.

Adesany told the News Agency of Nigeria that five of the centres had five states each, while the remaining three centres had four states each.

Success in the play-offs will guarantee the clubs representing the states slots in the National Amateur League competition in the 2010/2011 season.

Adesanya said the Katsina centre had Niger, Bauchi, Yobe, Jigawa and Nasarawa states, while Minna centre had Zamfara, Kano, Sokoto, Kebbi and Plateau states.

“Also, the Akure centre has Imo, Anambra, Enugu, Ebonyi and Akwa Ibom states, while Jalingo centre has the FCT as well as Borno, Benue, Kaduna and Kogi states.

“The fifth centre, with five states participating, is Calabar, and it has Edo, Ondo, Ogun, Kwara and Abia states,‘‘ Adesanya said.

The NFF official said the Lafia centre had Taraba, Adamawa, Gombe and Katsina states, while Umuahia had Rivers, Bayelsa, Delta and Cross River states, with the Kano centre hosting Oyo, Lagos, Ekiti and Osun states

thats not too shabby, thats more than what some doctors were earning ten years ago @ 60-80 k a month. but what are our youth systems like?? i think the NFA should be more focused on making sure the right environment is put in place for young players, its going to cost a lot but i beleive that it will definately pay off both for the national team and for the domestic leagues and ultimately economically.
Re: Nigerian League Fan Thread: Enter D Place N Know Every by honeric01(m): 12:55am On Jul 16, 2010
I am sorry but our league does not encourage young players, you can hardly find an U-20 playing anywhere in our league, 90% of our league clubs do not have a proper youth academy so how do you expect youth development through our league?

Zanaco whips Enyimba 4-0
Saturday, 17 July 2010

Nigeria Premier League Champions, Enyimba slumped last Saturday as they fell by 0 4 in the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup round of 16 to Zambia National Commercial Bank (ZANACO) of Zambia in Lusaka.

Zanaco scored all four goals in the first half at the Sunset Stadium in Lusaka.

It took just 120 seconds for the home side to break down the former African champion through defender George Chilufya before forward Matthews Macha doubled the lead three minutes later.

Three minutes before the hour-mark, Ignatius Lwipa scored the third goal and his strike-partner, Winston Kalengo, completed the rout a minute from half-time.

Enyimba, however, fought back in the restart with no breakthrough, thereby leaving the Aba club with a mountain to climb in a fortnight when it plays host at the Enyimba Sports Stadium.

But the Peoples Elephants loss may not be unconnected with the players demand for the payment of their contract fees for the just-concluded Premier League season.

The team also arrived in Lusaka less than 24 hours before Saturdays clash and in two batches and the players could not really settle down to post a respectable performance in the match.

They however have a chance to redeem their image in two weeks time in the second leg in Aba.

Pillars players thank management
Friday, 16 July 2010

Players of Kano Pillars are happy with the management of the team for paying thirty percent of the remaining sign on fees from last season.

Premier League highest goal record holder, Ahmed Musa who spoke on behalf of the players noted that it is a good thing that the players are still remembered when the season is over.

"We sincerely want to thank them and of course the State Government for the way they have responded to our call. The fact they paid some percentage of the sign on fees means they have our welfare at heart.

"This is the reason why no player will want to leave the club next season. The State Government should also be commended for the way they have motivated us," Musa said.

The former Jos University Teaching Hospital Football Club striker broke the 17 goals record in Nigeria this season when he got18 strikes for Kano Pillars who came second in the Nigeria Premier League.
