Please whatever it is the plan is, don't rely on appointments done on the phone. All appointments should be done in person and only in person

I think this is a better idea. We can relate with the hospital, book an appointment, then they head there. Cool?

By the way the hospital I talked about is Ancilla Catholic Hospital/Eye Centre around Iju Road, Agege - Pen Cinema.

Lets know the decision of which hospital and also getting across to them
Going by the history posted here, the parents can't do it alone as they might not even understand the diagnosis again.

Sis Taryour, can you spare one of ya employees? I know madam is extremely busy taking orders cheesy

Dear All,

We've now had time to deliberate on this case and here goes our official response. After having considered the complexity of the case in line with TeHN’s current limitations, we are happy to announce that we would like to provide some sort of defined support for the boy in question.

In considering the case, we specifically looked at the information at disposal and the extent at which TeHN’s intervention can be measured going forward. We do feel the family needs a two pronged approach (empowerment and rehabilitation and/or medical intervention of the boy) in order to alleviate them from their current predicament but our involvement will be restricted to the little boy for the following reasons:

1) We don’t have enough resources to empower a potential young family of 7

2) TeHN has stopped accepting medical cases as we don’t have confidence in the healthcare system in Nigeria

In light of the above, our proposed intervention will be restricted to either of the following:

1) A one off donation to meet the cost of any corrective surgery if possible – We will only make the donation if and when any respectable volunteer has helped manage the process to a logical conclusion (We will expect them to do the facilitation of getting appointment and receiving a definite diagnosis and cost from any reputable hospital)

2) If option 1 is not feasible either by lack of a respectable volunteer or we receive feedback that corrective surgery is impossible, we will instruct our field workers to investigate the possibility of having the little boy admitted into a specialist school and work out a budget that we will be willing to make one-off donation towards.

Regards

No offence ma'am but isn't accepting option 2 submitting the boy to being visually impaired without the option of getting a second opinion?

It s times like this I wish I was close by

I will contact the metro eye and I will get back to you.

I agree with you that it won't hurt to get opinions from two different eye centers.

It's hard to commit to that since we don't know if corrective surgery is possible and its cost if at all possible.

Best approach is for any willing volunteer to investigate the surgery route before we can consider cost and other ad hoc requests

My Chairman at the top, i see the possibilities here and that is why i asked that:
1. Money raising starts and continues under the understanding that if more than what is needed is raised, some could be allocated in empowering the cute boy
2. If money raised is not enough, i will expect or imagine that better figure would be known after examination of his eyes by great optician and i read on this thread where some people suggested good ones.
I am sure that in your capable hands, this boy will smile at the end of the day and please let us look at how we could do more for him BUT like i said earlier, even wanting to finance him with some of your already decided options, i am dancing already BUT please look into raising more funds . . . .

Another issue is who holds the funds raised

TheN surely could hold the fund raised and give it out to based on need and request and be as open as they were with the young man that passed on . . I beleive they have the capacity to do that much, they have done it before and i know they have what it takes to do it again . . . . However, TheN knows itself more than Fhemmmy Motos.

Good afternoon Tearoses.
Weldon.
First, the boy has to be brought in to see an opthalmologist to see what can be done. If a surgery is needed, it will be arranged.
Second, Pacelli School for the blind, located at Ogunlana in Surulere is the available option for the kid. I did a story on them for a publication last year so I can find out about enrolment and all. It's free as far as I know, run by the Catholic diocese. It's a boarding facility too.
Opthalmologists only come in Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, and its based on appointments.
Let me know if you need further clarifications.
