I do not understand this question. Do you mean you have large shoulders? What part of your shoulder exactly do you need to "reduce"?

@ romeo,
my back side, directly under my head.

@ romeo, this is really interesting o, one month of exercise scale did not shift, today after almost 10 days of no or lil exercise, it dropped 2.5 kg. I had to tell hussy to help me check properly. Anyways its a great motivation for me, its for me alone and i must go on. Thanks romeo for everything. I need more.

Well done! It takes a while for the body's thermostat to reset itself to a higher metabolic rate - Thats is why an exercise regime MUST be consistent and focused. Now is the time to double your efforts and even work harder. Once the weight loss fire starts, its easy to keep it burning.

@ romeo, what is it about heavy dumbbells and being muscular? Should i get something lighter as i use 4kg now. I hope its not responsible for the shoulder pains ave been complaining about, cos i felt it a lil again this morning after bicep curls, i really had to stretch, hoping it would help though. The pains kept me off 1 day work and church last week, i dont need a repeat. Where art thou sef?

Romeo,do malt drinks contain caffeine? I read the nutritional info and didn't see caffeine but I want to be sure.
Re: Certified Fitness Instructor And Nutritionist In The House by Romeo4real(m): 6:38pm On Oct 02, 2010
@Eja -

Malt drinks do not contain caffeine - at least not the popular brands Nigerians consume. But they do, however, contain a lot of sugar, and i mean a lot.
If you can, stay away from them. You are better off drinking plain water. If in any doubt about what a product contains, always read the label.

Romeo,
how you doiiiinnnn.
are you saying malt contains more sugar than the regular soda,what about amstel Malta, i need to know cos of folks i give pro bono fitness and nutrition tips.
Re: Certified Fitness Instructor And Nutritionist In The House by Romeo4real(m): 10:23pm On Oct 02, 2010
Hey Modath, im doing just fine!Hope your well too!

are you saying malt contains more sugar than the regular soda
It may actually do, as it contains high levels of Maltose, a naturally occurring sugar which is a by product of the "malting" process used to make malt drinks. In addition, glucose, sucrose is also added as well
All malts are made the same way, and the process of making Malt drinks is exactly the same as beer, except the sugars are not allowed to ferment into alcohol through the introduction of yeast. Imagine Guinness with a lot of sugar in it; That's a malt drink!

Although Malt drinks are touted as being healthy, good for pregnant women and rich in Vitamin B Complexes, their high sugar content make them an unhealthy drink. And even though most Nigerian producers fortify their drinks with extra vitamins -  esp Vitamin  A & C,  the high sugar content cancels out any benefit you may get from these vitamins.

Sigh! I drink a lot of water but once in a while my tummy just rejects it and I thought amstel malt was a healthy option of malt. I just got myself a pack of nutri-c (a vitamin C powder drink). That has less sugar and I take it very diluted. Better?
Re: Certified Fitness Instructor And Nutritionist In The House by Nobody: 9:18pm On Oct 05, 2010
Hi romeo,
I have this chronic pain on my right shoulder and left side of my waist. It all started like 5 yrs ago when I use to carry a bucket of water to climb the stairs. (the water is usually carried on my right hand with my waist tilted to the left). I usually feel serious pain in these areas when I carry heavy objects or sit on a chair for long hours but when I rest, it all goes away. of late, the pain has refuse to go away. I am suspecting I have an injured nerve in these areas.

Can you suggest an exercise routine that might help.

thanks

Am i welcomed in this thread. I need to start something with my weight and diet. I dont know my weight now but i was over 80kg, d last time i checked wit a height of 1.62m. Presently i am on a diet plan dat ll last the next 9 days. I need your advice, my meals commence after nine days, so i want to what food table and exercise i can start with. My target is 64kg in the next 3 months. Advice pls.

How funny this sounds to me now? It is good to be ambitious sha o, if not how do chop off 21kg in 3 months? bwahahahahahahahah shocked
Re: Certified Fitness Instructor And Nutritionist In The House by Romeo4real(m): 10:21pm On Oct 05, 2010
@Eja-

Pls check the Nutri-C to see if it has any artificial sweeteners. These are much worse than sugars,as they are known to cause a host of health problems inc cancers fertility issue, gastric discomfort, etc. If you have to, you are better off taking a sweet drink containing sugars, than one containing artificial sweeteners (sucralose, splenda, aspartame, acesulfame-k, etc).
Regarding the malt, it wont hurt if once in a while. The question is - can you keep it to "once in a while"?

Re: Certified Fitness Instructor And Nutritionist In The House by Romeo4real(m): 10:53pm On Oct 05, 2010
@Crystal25 -

This pain could be cause by many things, but as you mention the incidence of carrying heavy objects, it may be a trapped nerve, or could be that you have pulled or strained the muscles in these areas. Again, this is difficult to diagnose, but i would recommend GENTLE stretching of the affected areas daily. This may cause you slight discomfort, but you must keep doing it. Put aside 30mins - 1hr to stretch them daily. Make sure to hold any stretch position for as least 15-20 seconds.

For your shoulders and waist, here are diagrams showing a variety of stretching exercises. I believe the pain in your left side is located at your Obliques (sides of your abdomen). if this is not so, let me know

Re: Certified Fitness Instructor And Nutritionist In The House by Romeo4real(m): 10:57pm On Oct 05, 2010
@nonnyp -

the diagram really helps it is by the trapezius
Carrying heavy stuff in your hands, or a heavy handbag on your shoulders on a regular basis will build your trapezeius muscles. This will also cause a "tightness" in the area, though this can easily be resolved through regular massage therapy. The only was to "reduce" this area is to stop carrying the heavy things.
Re: Certified Fitness Instructor And Nutritionist In The House by Nobody: 1:02am On Oct 06, 2010
Thanks Romeo for the prompt response.

The pain I feel on the left side of my waist seem to be localized to my left hip bone.
Do you think I should see a doctor as I can hardly study on a desk for long hours without feeling pain.

grin grin

Nutri-C instant orange flavoured drink has its ingredients as follows : sugar,citric acid,sodium citrate,sodium carboxymethyl cellulose,natural flavor, yellow FCF CI 15985, tartrazine CI 19140, vitamins and minerals (A, B2, B3, B6, folic acid, C, E, calcium,phosphorus), and aspartame.

Hmm I just noted that aspartame is an artificial sweetener,hmm.
