I still wonder why igbos see Awolowo as a betrayer whereas, history has it that it was Azikiwe that actually betrayed Awolowo and other southern leaders and went to form coalition with the northern leaders instead of meeting with Awo in delta.

It was selfish interest and greed. He was meant to form a coalition with other southern parties. He thought he could outsmart the Northerners who people believed were backwards and easy to manipulate. He was outsmarted instead and got a ceremonial presidential position while the North got the powerful Prime Minister position. We were running a parliamentary system during that era.

If you read the whole article. I would edit my post and include the link, the Northerners were thought to be primitive. However, the Westerners know that the Northerners were actually very politically smart. They have had relations and businesses with them for centuries. Ilorin fell for that reason about 150 years prior.
